  1. I'd like to see more of the Trestman offense, as far as formations go. I also would like to see Cutler get through a game without one of his trademark, "What the hell were you thinking?" turnovers.
  2. Classic case of the NFL covering their asses from the lawsuit on a hit that was actually about as picture perfect as it gets. First of all, the guy wasn't defenseless. He had clearly taken 2 steps and made a football move before he was blown up. Meanwhile, the NFL will continue to trick parents and kids into believing that football is a safe sport, and players will continue to be forced to go low and ruin careers by blowing out knees instead.
  3. Sounds like the plan is going to be to keep one of Palmer or Edwards as the 3rd QB while signing Blanchard to the practice squad again. Be interesting to see if they do keep 3 quarterbacks. I thought it was stupid last year only carrying 2.
  4. My patience with McClellin is wearing thin. After another lack luster performance last night, I'm beginning to think he might need to be moved from defensive end. He has been getting manhandled against the run since day 1, which is exactly what everybody said the day he was drafted, and it hasn't gotten any better. I've been watching him closely all of pre-season. The guy is sticking to lineman like glue at the point of attack. Unless he's running by someone, he's probably not getting to the quarterback because he can't shed a block. I'd like to see my 19th overall pick be able to stay on the field for all 3 downs, but unfortunately it doesn't appear like he will be able to do that. His best shot may still be at LB'er.
  5. If Bostic keeps making plays like this, it's going to be awfully difficult for DJ Williams to get his starting job back. He is still a work in progress. To me, he just looks like an athlete right now, surviving off his natural physical gifts and instincts as opposed to playing smartly and technically sound. He had his missteps in the passing game last night, as he did in Game 1. Overall though, he looks like a definite keeper.
  6. I wouldn't worry about Martellus Bennett yet, until a few weeks into the regular season. I have to imagine Trestman is hiding how much he plans on using the middle of the field for the real games, and I expect Bennett to be a big part of that. As for Cutler, I am still not quite sure he's the right man for this offense. I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, but he seemed to regress a little bit in Pre-Season Game #2. For the most part, he had plenty of time, and it looked like he had no idea what to do with it. I saw a little bit of panic from him last night, compared to Game #1 where he looked poised and comfortable in the pocket. I thought in both instances, the two sacks should have never happened. #1 was slightly more excusable than the 2nd one, but those are two plays where the ball has to get out, either via a throw away or a pass to a receiver. Next week is a big week for this offense, and Cutler specifically. What I want to see is a quick start. The last 2 games have started off in disaster fashion, which is way too reminiscent of the Mike Tice era, as brief as it was. Kyle Long looks like the real deal so far. I haven't seen a lineman play that well in a Bears uniform since.. FOREVER. My god. He was stonewalling people with one arm, pancaking people left and right. He was far and away the best OL in the game yesterday, which isn't something you expect for a rookie. I was also impressed with the other rookie, Jordan Mills. It was less flashy, but he seemed to be able to hold his own in both pass protection and in run blocking. I am starting to be more encouraged with our unit up front with Mills and Long in as starters. Consistency is key.
  7. Blanchard is now out with a broken hand. So basically they'll have to bring in a new QB for 2 weeks, force him to learn the playbook, and then ship him out when it comes down to the final cuts.
  8. The Bears 4th string is absolutely horrific.
  9. That was the hardest/legal hit I think I've seen since Reggie Bush got drilled in a playoff game a few years back.
  10. Trestman's play calling is like a breath of fresh air.
  11. Horrendous throw by Cutler. Not even close to open as Marshall was being bracketed by two defenders.
  12. Long has looked legit so far. Guy is a beast, strength-wise.
  13. Cutler is holding onto the ball for way too long. First sack was on Bennett. Second was on Jay.
  14. You are 100% correct. When I heard about the special teams thing, I immediately thought, "Why the hell did they draft him for then?" This is exactly why the NFL needs to expand its active roster. Then you won't have this issue of forcing skill position players to play on special teams.
  15. DJ isn't going anywhere unless he's out for the season or gets suspended. With all the injuries going around the league this year, I'd rather not just cut a guy who has actual value. I'm pretty excited to see him get healthy and get out there.
  16. That was from today.. This is starting to become a thing. I feel like I read the same tweet everyday.
  17. He looked like he put on more muscle, but it didn't help him from getting stonewalled a few times in the running game. He needs to develop some sort of counter move to help him shed off blocks. He was sticking to lineman like they were glue the other day.
  18. I know. It's a professionalism thing, really. Dude won't acknowledge any member of the media if it's not on a Wednesday. He's just being an ass, which I don't have a problem with, but some people do.
  19. I talked to a member of the media at training camp last week, and he was telling me how Cutler won' even acknowledge a question after practice if it's not on a Wednesday (which is the designated day he is scheduled to talk). So maybe he still has some growing up to do, but I do agree that him accepting blame for a poor throw yesterday was a nice step. I'm sure him being married and having a kid has changed him some.
  20. I will say this, all of the rookies have looked really good in Game 1. Long held his own, Bostic with the pick 6 and a couple of nice chasedowns, Greene had a couple of stuffs against the run, Mills opened up a hole during the TD run, Washington flashed his speed on a few plays, and then of course Marquis Wilson's playmaking skills in the passing game showed up today. It was a good day for Emery. The 4th string offensive line was a disaster.
  21. It looked to me like.. it was game 1 of the pre-season. Some good, some bad. Can't really draw any conclusions from the 1st team in pre-season.
  22. Unreal. First play of game-- Interception, just like in most of the practices.
  23. They should just move Long to RT and let him develop next to James Brown, who by all accounts, has been a beast this offseason. The Bears might have plans to move Long to LT in a couple years when Bushrod goes bad. I actually think it could be a lot sooner than that, because I have little to no faith in Bushrod to hold the fort down.
  24. The scheme Cutler was in with the Broncos was unique to Mike Shanahan & Gary Kubiak, so it's not the same ZBS that Kromer runs. From what I have read, it certainly sounds like the Trestman offense is one of the most complex in the NFL. Curious to know how it compares to Mike Martz, who was notorious for running an offense that was difficult to grasp. These 4 pre-season games will be helpful in determining whether or not the offense has the basic principles down, because that's all we will get to see, according to Trestman. A lot of vanilla.
  25. Excited to see what Joe Anderson is made of now that he will be replacing Earl Bennett on the depth chart, at least for the pre-season opener.
