March 26, 201610 yr comment_156648 I wonder if they were assuming the Saints couldnt match when they moved Bennett. This probably affects our 2nd or 3rd round draft pick. Report

I don't think it does too much, because if they want a blocking TE they can draft one later. If anything, losing out on Hill means Khari Lee has better odds on having a role. Report

March 26, 201610 yr comment_156651 I think Hill can do a bit more than just block. Not sure about 2nd round, but I expect a mid rounder. After reading up on all the TEs, Jerrell Adams is my favorite among the mid rounders. Said to be a real solid blocker, and he's got solid speed as well which is exactly what Hill would have brought. I do too, he was a little lost when he had opportunities but I am sure things will eventually slow down for him. As a blocker he was fine, hope he grows more comfortable as a receiver. Report
March 26, 201610 yr comment_156653 Hill was not a bad receiver at all. I think our staff thought he had what it takes to become a good one. I think this was the first "mistake" of the off season. But we aren't going to the super bowl this year, and so this was a tactical swing and a miss, but not a strategic one. Bennett was not a long term piece of the puzzle. But I think that if we had signed Hill, we would have the ammo to move up for a QB. We still do, but it makes us less flexible for later rounds and moves if we have a true NEED going into the draft. I wouldn't categorize it as a mistake. In reality, it might have been a bad move in the first place. What else could we have done, overpaid? How much more would you pay for a guy with 36 receptions and 340 yards in 3 seasons? With the extra 4th from NE, we have 5 picks in the first 127, and 6 in the first 150. So draft-wise, we are in pretty good shape. In terms of TE's, there are some decent stop-gap options out there: (Jared Cook, Scott Chandler, Tony Moeaki, Garrett Graham). Report

I would not call it a mistake to try to grab a player that may be ascending. Every move will not turn out, but the point is to keep moving forward. When Seattle started becoming good, they made plenty of mistakes along the way but found some gems to. They obtains Harvin, not so hot. Paid Matt Flynn money. The point is get where you have to go and do it with as few as mistakes as possible. Report
March 29, 201610 yr comment_156677 No, Im saying the miscalculation was that perhaps they assumed they could get Hill when they decided to move Bennett. They still would have moved Bennett, and overpaying for Hill wasnt an option either. It doesnt hurt us long term, just maybe this year. I just wonder if we were surprised we didnt end up with Hill. I'm probably in the minority here, but Vernon Davis would be an easy addition similar to others I've suggested. He causes no headaches, and he's a huge addition. Acts a fool, and finds his ass cut. Worth a shot in my opinion. Report

That said, I presume he wants to go to a contender and right now that isn't the Bears. Report

Don't think he had a lot of opportunities in Denver as Owen Daniels became the favored TE in Kubiaks offense. Report
