We're one week out from the start of training camp and it's time to get a feel for the players everyone is expecting to have a breakout season. I'm expecting Alshon Jeffrey to step up this year. He worked hard this offseason and is in far better shape than he was last year. I also think he learned some valuable lessons in those late games with all his pass interference penalties and will be more subtle in how he uses his size advantage this season.

  2. This post was for the only Webb supporter I have come across, but he will not comment anymore on this subject because when someone he says is getting better, gets sent to RT, takes a pay cut and then the unemployment line, pretty hard to convince people he was even be a NFL player let alone the best tackle on the Bears. That comment comes from the constant reference to Bushrod being on the same level. I just wanted to speak my peace on a boring subject that only get this much attention because you keep defending him. May I suggest instead of reading PFF watch the football games and let your eyes show you the truth. PFF has good stats but there not the Bible on how good pl…

I'm curious to hear how the majority of fans and AM radio guys in Chicago feel about Williams probably getting the nod over Bostic to start against the Bengals. I personally wanted the rookie out there to start and let Williams come in to spell him while he got his conditioning back a bit. How do you guys feel?

I understand quick reads and throws, even max protect and three step drops, but this offense appears to have emasculated Jay Cutler. If I didn't know any better I'd think it was Shane Matthews at QB. As we painfully learned when than moron Shoop was calling plays with crayons, the dink and dunk only works if the opponent respects the Bears' offense enough to worry about the intermediate and deep balls.

Sucks for us and him, as he was on the franchise tag. Collins has be playing really solid, so hopefully others will step up.

Normally an 0-5 team shouldn't make me nervous. Especially a team that has averaged 4 turnovers a game. But there is a huge difference between an 0-5 Giants team and an 0-5 Jags team. The 0-5 Jags team isn't accustomed to winning and the Giants are. The lack of depth at Dline worries me except that the giants average 56yds/game. Eli's deluded mindset is also helpful:

Our O is good enough to win it all. Our D is a disgrace. Wait, what?!!! This is the polar opposite of what we've been experiencing for decades. OUr O did just fine. Other than a couple of questionable play calls. 4th and ? Kick the damn ball Kromer and Trestman!!!! But the D was gashed again. An off the street hack, had an Earl Campbell-like night. I'd look like Bronko Nagurski out there against our D. We need a change. Hard. It's not working. We can only beat the bottom feeders.

I'm still not sold that they will move on from Jay, for better or for worse, but just to get the loss off my mind for a little bit, lets say Jay is let go and they give Josh like 3M to compete with a rookie here is what my ideal offseason would look like.... Bears will have the 4th most cap room of any team in the league, and with a Championship caliber offense, Chicago should be an inviting place for FAs to sign. Assuming they cut Peppers they will have 50M in cap space. Resign Tillman 5M Jennings 5M Melton 3M prove it deal Collins 1M Ratliff 1M Wootton 3M Bowman 2M Williams 1.5M Slausson 2M Gould 4.5M McCown 3M Total 31M …

Interesting read. I'm still all for firing him based on what I saw but there's two sides to the argument. http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2014/1/9/...vie-smith-again

http://deadspin.com/the-nfl-can-force-thes...dium=socialflow Some of you old school guys probably won't like it, but I personally would love it. I don't have HBO at the moment but I'd definitely opt to get it if it means I got to watch the inner workings of the Bears. Maybe we can see why the Bears like Tucker so much lol.

I was reading some interesting info on Garza. Garza graded out as the second best lineman on the team this year. He is a team leader and has been relatively healthy. I was wanting to move on from him, but have changed my mind and want him for one more year. We still need to add a eventual replacement, maybe find someone in the later rounds.

Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 19m Listed Mike Mitchell (Panthers) and Ryan Mundy (Giants) as 2 safeties that could be in play for #Bears this morning. They are targeted. I assume this means we've been in contact with them. Mitchell is listed as the 94th ranked FA by NFL.com. Played for Chico in Carolina, and that D was pretty damn good. Rotoworld had this to say about him "Playing on a one-year deal last season, Mitchell racked up 66 tackles, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He was a play-maker for a secondary that doesn't have many of them. Mitchell is still only 27. He'd have a nice little market if he reached free agency." …

I never saw a replay that showed it, and Aikman questioned it without Fox ever showing it. Can anyone confirm?

If you ever get a chance to watch this kid he is the next Megatron WR. He is an absolute beast and he is a Junior which leads me to believe that he should be a top pick in next years draft.

  17. Started by madlithuanian,

Just a random thought... With Greg Jennings getting hurt...etc, maybe the Packers start resting some players? Maybe that opens the door for a potential Cutler return if we can win those 2 games... Must be the backwash on my koolaid cup that's currently empty...

  18. Started by jason,

I'm happy with the JA firing, and lukewarm on Martz resigning (mostly because I believe JA's failures have made it nearly impossible for Martz to truly succeed or implement a complete offense). However, there is still quite a bit of cause for concern. 1. Ted Phillips is apparently in charge. He is not a football guy. 2. Any new GM will be forced to take Lovie. Most superiors don't like subordinates forced upon them. This is especially true in the world of GMs. 3. Any new OC will almost certainly be weak. They won't want to be under a HC on thin ice with a new GM who will probably want to hire his own guy quite soon. 4. Number 3 makes "Mike Tice named t…

  19. Whoever the Bears choose to run football operations, might have difficulty drafting in terms of taking players that fit a certain scheme. With Martz gone, I think offense will be easier. As for defense, if your the GM would you take guys specifically that fit the cover-2 or would you grab a player that would fit a more traditional style defense? Luckily our biggest needs are on the offensive side of the ball and thats were I would go heavy early. But if we fail to make the playoffs again next year, Lovie might just get shown the door and then we are stuck with players that might not excel in standard 3-4. Seems like we are back to square one when JA had to draft for J…
