On the 30th anniversary of the Bears 1986 SB trouncing of New England, a post I saw somewhere asked the question: "Would the 1985 Bears win it all today?" I think we all believe that team to be the best of all time, but could that collection of talent beat the 2015 teams? For the sake of argument, I'm only talking about whether the defense would dominate. Eight members of the defense were multiple-time probowlers. Only The Fridge, Mike Richardson, and Leslie Frazier were not. That doesn't concern me much since Fridge's role was a run-stuffer/blocker-occupier, and the CB duo of Richardson and Frazier never had to cover anyone more than a second or two. So, could …

Read about this guy anywhere and you'll see: (Walter, Bucky Brooks, CBS, NFL.com, the list goes on and on) -Elite power -Great run defense -Unbelievable agility for his size -Surprising pass rush ability -etc. Everyone loves this guy. His high school highlights are more comical than maybe anything I've ever seen. What do you guys think of him as a potential 3-4DE? I know he isn't the ideal size/burst, but if he can collapse a pocket he can collapse a pocket. I don't care how it happens. And since I'm in favor of elite run defender 3-4DEs over guys who are well-rounded everywhere but not elite anywhere, I favor the former. With a guy like Bil…

Suppose the draft goes crazy. I'm talking "Kevin Costner making horrendous trades in Draft Day, getting his guy, causing a #1 QB to fall and nobody takes him"-crazy. Who do you want as your #1 guy? Honestly, I don't see how the Titans pick anyone but Tunsil. They have some offensive weapons, and just need to protect. Cleveland is picking a QB, and Goff seems like the #1 guy. Bosa is rated as the #1 guy overall on most boards, so he probably doesn't make it past SD. After that, however, all bets are off. So, assuming a small amount of realism, who do you hope makes it to 11 and the Bears can't help but to pick him? My guy is Ronnie Stanley. He's a s…

He gave the Bears a B+. http://chi.247sports.com/Bolt/Mel-Kiper-re...class--43000419 I agree. Pretty damn good draft. One or two more of those and the Bears are contenders. This team is headed in the right direction.

Daniel Jeremiah lists Fackrell as the 28th best prospect in the draft. Much will change between now and the draft but this kid was once considered a potential top 20 pick but his knee injury a year ago had him off the radar. Another guy I liked in Rd 2, Jonathan Bullard, he has listed at 40th and on many other boards he's moved up well into the 1st Rd. He's got 11 or 12 DTs in his top 50 (depending on where you list Bosa). That's a lot of depth at DT and the order these guys get picked will depend on team needs (i.e. run stuffer) and scheme. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000062...-2016-nfl-draft

Of the 76 kicker/punters in the database, Gould finished 75th (in terms of Value-Added) with a -13.4 and O'Donnell finished 42nd with a -1.6. The part that most were concerned with was Gould's kickoffs and that was clearly illustrated in this database as he finished dead last in that category. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-ha...on-nfl-kickers/ So with a cap hit of $4.1mil next year, is Kicker an area we need to address this offseason? Gould has the 3rd highest average salary for a Kicker (behind Gostkowski and Janikowski).

Now I don't know if this is a team thing or just the website contributors, but if it is a team thing, then this would seem to support the notion that Forte will not be back. Easier to justify to fanbase if rookie RB is your RoY over others. Just speculation. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/article-1...0e-5aa9e812b8f9

Denver Broncos extend DE Derek Wolfe to a four year contract. He was one of the defensive targets I hoped the Bears would get. Still a wild dream they can get Wilkerson DE or Berry S.

Draft Site 1. Deforest Buckner, DE, Oregon 2. Shilique Calhoun, DE, Mich. St. 3. William Jackson, CB, Houston 4. Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio St. 5. Nelson Spruce, WR, Colorado 6. Brandon Shell, OT, S. Carolina 6. Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn 6. Tajae Sharpe, WR, Mass. 7. Matt Judon, OLB, Grand Valley St. Talk about a draft I hate. No ILB help? Doubling-up on DE? A QB I despise? This is close to as bad as it could be in my eyes. Given the layout of when players are picked, this is possible: 1. Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama (He had a mediocre championship game, but stats don't lie) 2. Shilique Calhoun, DE, Mich. St. (I'm fine with one) 3. S…

There are many reasons why the Bears could go either way on the TE issue, but I believe getting rid of Bennett makes the most sense for a few reasons. 1. He has a $6M+ cap hit next year. He'll want a contract extension/raise, again, and Miller will require much less money. That $6M+ is way more than Bennett's worth, especially considering the following: 2. He appears to be a character concern. He's one of those odd players who wants to do way more stuff than just football, similar to one of the main anti-Marshall comments. The fact that he skipped the entire voluntary offseason program doesn't gain support from the coaching staff either. 3. Statistically, …

Decided to really focus on him tonight and I'm not overly impressed. Doesn't run hard all the time and seems to be coming out on 3rd down, which I don't get if he's a top pick.

I realize this is a total left field comment, but these are two QB's, who some top NFL people (Greg Gabriel being one of) have raved about. Lynch is probably off the board, but Wentz is another guy who gets high marks. Both of these guys have a ton of talent and would benefit from an organization who has a stability in the coaching ranks and ideally the ability to be patient (as they need to develop). Given that we are getting a 2nd 1st round pick this year (i.e., White's return) and have a ton of money available to make free agent signings (including the ability to poach two young players from Denver's top D where Fox has an existing connection), would this actually be t…
