Spent the evening and I layed out the Bears current roster with their contracts expiration dates to get a look at needs. As I see it now, if no major injury takes place, the Bears may sit on the remaining cap to lock up Alshon Jeffery. Depending how the season plays out, the Bears will have major needs in the following: Defense 3-4 DE - McDonald, Jenkins, and Ratliff contract expires. That will leave Furguson, Sutton, Washington, and Dunn NT- Depth will be needed behind Goldman CB-Fuller on one end, Jennings I see as a nickel leaves finding a long term man cover CB a big need S-Mundys contract expires, depth behind Vereen and Amos will be a need OLB is locked …

ESPN is reporting that Dante Fowler Jr has suffered a knee injury at rookie mini camp. Exact details have not been disclosed.

AM 1000 reporting that Goldman and Fabaluje didn't finish drills today at mini camp. I must admit that it is extremely humid and hot here today and that may have been a factor for these 2 big boys.

Hroniss Grasu is now signed, making the Chicago Bears the first team again to get all draft picks under contract. Grasu signed earlier Friday and will compete for the starting Center spot. Great to get this done, Grasu can start taking the reins as he did in Oregon in leading the oline. Kyle Long and Grasu will be a grueling dual for years in the run game. Both are agressive maulers. Great work Cliff Stein once again and great pick Pace.

They signed him for dirt cheap. Geez.

This of course is all pending the police investigation but if he is fully exonerated, I presume all 32 teams will be in an all out battle for a cheap, cost controlled last 1st round pick (from a value perspective). Clearly he'd be a fantastic fit on the Bears (and would probably start day 1 to be frank...he's better than Mills).

With the draft and most UDFA's signed, using our pre-draft depth chart, I tried to figure out who makes the cut at 53. The biggest battles are at LB and CB, and who plays what on the DLINE. Nevertheless, it should be interesting. For simplicity sake, I plugged some guys in for only one position even though they can play multiple. Looking at this you can see why we did not draft a LB. Also, it looks like the low end of the roster turnover would be 33% and can get as high as 45% depending on which 53-man roster guys stick (I see about 6 at risk) and 18 new slots already filled. A lot of this could be just me sipping the kool-aid, but for awhile now I've been thinking that this D they put together COULD be pretty good if all it's parts play to their potential. DL Ray McDonald- I think the off the field stuff is really blinding people on just how good McDonald is. Here's a guy who in Fangios very successful time in SF played the 3rd most snaps, so he was obviously a key part to a very good defense. Rotoword said he was one of the best 3-4 DEs in the league last year. Eddie Goldman- They got a guy to take on doubles which will help on every level. There is a lot to like about this draft, of course we wont know for 3 years. White, a potential top 10 WR, stud with speed and work ethic. Marshall with speed, youth and wonderful attitude. Larry Fitzgerald type upside Goldman, an anchor for a new 3-4 will be the starter by the end of the year. He will end up being B J Raji type Grasu, a future Olin Kreutz, born leader and go to war mentality. tough and gritty. Olin Kreutz for his upside Langford, didnt like this pick at first, but could actually be our RB of the future. Has speed and work ethic. His upside is CJ Anderson, the Bears now have the zone blocking scheme that many one cut runners excelled…
