Was watching a replay of a recent broadcast from CSN Chicago(?) where a panel (to include Arkush) were discussing some Bears news. Mostly it was about whether the Bears would win this weekend against the Colts. Anyhow a couple comments from Arkush caught my interest. I'm not as familiar with him as some of you are and was curious about what you know of him. Anyhow the first comment he made was that no team should ever 'tank' a game just to do better in the draft. (Something I'd agree with wholeheartedly). He went on to say that "no team in the NFL would ever do that." And that doing so is a "disease". The second comment was a bit more intriguing. He said h…

If that's the test, they passed. I'm not saying they were perfect, not even good enough yet, but compared to just a week ago they were a lot better.

Metcalf has knee problem Vaughn McClure, 12:22 p.m. Terrence Metcalf emerged from the dining room with a sleeve protecting his right knee. The left guard said he had the knee drained Friday after it swelled, and he's not sure how the injury occurred. "It's no big thing," he said. He expects to play in Thursday's exhibition against the Chiefs. And he expects to start if he does play. "Heck yeah, I'll be running with the first team," he said. Metcalf has yet to be cleared for Monday night's practice. Josh Beekman has been working at left guard in his place.

As the owner's meetings get underway in San Francisco it seems clear we're going to get a change to the extra point rules. I'm curious which option folks prefer. I like the Competition Committee plan 14b the best. If it's a competitive play IMO the defense should be equally allowed to score as the offense does. I think the Eagles plan 14b, 2 point conversion to the 1yd line, is making the 2 point conversion too easy and sort of defeats the purpose of making this a more competitive aspect of the game. I do agree that a safety, even on an extra point (try), should be 2 points as it always is. However, getting a safety on any try is extremely unlikely so …

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter?game_id=2960...=tab_gamecenter If you can handle the emotions again watch the video at that link. They say football is a game of inches but for a couple months now I've been thinking about what a difference 11 seconds can make for a team. If we won that game against Atlanta we would not have seen anywhere near as many changes as what we had this offseason. I believe that's for the best. If we win this game against Atlanta it's likely we: 1) Made the made the playoffs but lost in Rd 1. That would have been enough for JA and Lovie to sit tight and just tweak things a bit instead of the wholesale changes we had. 2) Do…

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,5519790.story I don't know much about Sims, but the thought of getting a starter at guard for Brown seems like a good idea, particularly if the alternative is to release him or trade him for a late pick.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...ion-with-bears/ Mike Tice gets contract extension with Bears Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 16, 2011, 6:26 PM EST Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice didn’t get a chance to be the Titans offensive coordinator, but he did get a little extra money in his pocket from the Bears. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Tice got a one-year extension through 2012 on Wednesday. (He presumably got a pay bump on the final year too.) In exchange, the man formerly known as Meathead essentially can’t complain about not getting his shot for a promotion. Tice wasn’t the only Bears assistant to get an exten…

We are now over halfway through the first Poles season. For the most part, this is what was expected, especially after the trading deadline changes (Quinn, Smith). I know he was always going to get a free pass for the first couple of years, but how many free agent hits and draft hits does he have today? How many of those players are starters next year? If you brought in a league average free agent at a position, which Poles acquisition is starting over them? Brisker is the only one I can think of at this point. The top offensive guys (Fields, Herbert, Mooney, and Kmet) are all Pace guys. On defense, of the only sure fire keepers (Brisker, Jackson, Johnson), on…

http://bearingthenews.com/?p=1400 Drafting for a Better Future Instead of an Ugly Present Benjamin Franklin once wrote, “All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse.” It is with that in mind that I note Dan Pompei‘s review of the outside linebackers in this year’s NFL draft for the Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-0419-nfl-draft-outside-linebac20110418,0,4899973.story). Here’s what he says about the Bears need there: “Only one outside lin…

Tommie Harris is done as far as I'm concerned. He's stealing money. He hasn't done anything since the beginning of the 2006 season. Devin Hester is going to get large sums of money for basically being what he is best at "A super freak returner". He doesn't know how to play WR yet he's getting paid like he should be a T.O.

Using drafttek for slot selections, here is my mock after todays key FA signings. 2-47 (from New England/Olsen) Vladimir Ducasse OG UMass 3-75 Major Wright FS Florida 4-106 Mike Neal DT Pur 5-137 Marcus Easley WR UConn 6-171 Brian Jackson CB OKL 7-202 Erik Cook C New Mex Since the Bears addressed some key needs in FA, they will turn to the draft to add some youth to the mix. The decision to trade Greg Olsen was a tough one, but the Bears brass knew they would have to part ways when they decided to hire Mike Martz (thus the reasoning it took so long to decide). They recieved the second of New Englands second rounders and with that draft OG Vladimir …

I know there's a thread for workouts attended by the Bears but this one impacts the first round and I think merits it's own place. Lovie in attendance and Marinelli running the workouts. Watching the NFL Network it seems there's a lot of consensus that Austin has worked his way back into the first round. If that's true we have to start thinking he could end up on our roster. I've read where he was supposed to be a top 5 talent before the suspension. Now the flip side of having another guy enter the first round talent wise is that it makes it more likely an offensive player we like falls to us too. Naturally the coaches watched Greg Little workout too. I…

I don't htink it'll happen, espeically w/ LA w/o a team. But maybe the talk applies some heat to this franchise to get something going here! CHICAGO MAYOR WANTS ANOTHER TEAM Posted by Mike Florio on January 20, 2009, 10:35 a.m. They’ve got two baseball teams, so why not two football teams? Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley reiterated on Monday his belief that the city should have not one but two NFL franchises. “We should have a second NFL team in Chicago,” Daley said on Comcast SportsNet, via the Chicago Tribune. “If San Francisco has two, New York has two, Florida has three teams . . . and when you take Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, they hav…
