We have several posts all related to Free agency and it starts Monday just going to keep it in one post. We signed a RB Darrynton Evans, let go by he Titans. He has great upside but was sidetracked by injuries. He has 4.41 speed. A high reward low risk player. We resigned 3 ERFAs, Mustifer.... Simmons....Horsted, I was surprised by Simmons coming back. Poles must think he has upside. With us trading Mack, we will either be bringing in a DE by draft or FA, or both. 1. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - (A-). There are so many layers to this as it ends up essentially being a trade that will give the Bears HHCD and more than likely a comp pick while Packers get Amos and the Redskins 4th rounder. The more I watch HHCD, the more I see why the Bears went after him. I don't know if you can get a better Safety for that price ($3.5M). Here is a good article from the Sun-Times, if anyone hasn't read it yet (especially if you are one complaining about our FA) it is a good read. You may not agree with it but I do. The Bears are not the only team playing the waiting game in FA. Even the Packers, who had a miserable year and are trying to retool their defence to a 3-4, has only signed one player in FA and he certainly was not a household name. None of us know what is planned, but I would be willing to lay a wager with anyone who wants to do so that we will see our needs filled before the start of camp in July and that we will be a force in the NFC this year. Jonathan Allen is being released with a lot of money in his pocket. Would he play for 2 years at 16 mil?

I don't mind that the Bears are being modest with their free agent acquisitions this year. They were one play from the NFCC, had a ton of injuries, and most of their offseason losses (snap-wise) were on the defensive side of the ball, where they need upgrades anyway. Also, just like every other year, there have been some outrageous deals going out. Jaelan Phillips led all free agents with $30M AAV and had 2 sacks in 8 games for PHI. Pierce resigned with the Colts but still got $28.5M, which is crazy high for a WR2. Hendrickson got $28M and Lindenbaum got $27M. Rarely do signings like that work out in the long run. The draft got us 2 really good players, the last 3 are a head scatcher. My suggestions for FA's. There is rumors of going after Cullen Jenkins, of which we will spend alot for. a good move Also I think we will go after a OG of which we wont spend alot on, so I am throwing in the name Duece Lutui. big guy and mean. Also Richard Mashall/CB/from carolina- didnt get a long term extention, and with being friends with Peppers, maybe we get him here. Wont be expensive

what to do this offseason and what is available... #1 priority should be a LT to keep our franchise player off of IR. what are the options? 1. convert chris williams back to his projected position as left tackle unless tice won't budge on his quality evaluation of williams at that position. if that's the case we have another angelo bust. 2. it's always a thin market for good, young, FA left tackles. the only options i have seen both come from san diego and both have questions in regards to health issues. as i have not watched many charger games i am basing this call mainly on what i have read and not seen so take that with a grain of salt. We only have one offseason to draw from, and from what I understand the Bears have more cap space this offseason than last. That said, last year and his general comments suggest Pace is more likely to target young, up and coming players (see McPhee) than break the bank for a guy that’s established, but might not be worth his contract in four years. So I can’t really see a fit with Von Miller, Josh Norman, Muhammad Wilkerson, or even Malik Jackson. Jonathan Vilma is in Detroit Wednesday to take a physical. Vilma, the No. 12 overall pick in 2004, is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, which he underwent in November. He has experience in a Tampa 2 defense like Detroit's, having played for Herm Edwards 2004-2005. If he's cleared physically, a trade could be announced on Friday.
