Briggs wants Bears to acquire a veteran safety Apr 7 4/7/2010 8:19:37 PM | More Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs is encouraged by the addition of Julius Peppers and the return of Brian Urlacher. He can even live with the departure of defensive end Alex Brown and cornerback Nathan Vasher. But Briggs is still hoping for one more player: a veteran safety. "I am excited with what we have right now. But I still think we need a safety, a veteran safety, to help our defense," Briggs said. "But, to me, I'm excited to work hard and prove ourselves."

A few weeks back, the SCORES Boers & Bernstein show said that the Bears were having trouble getting a 5th round pick for Olsen. While I didn't believe this, I did believe his value wasn't what we thought it was. Today Denver received a 5th round pick for Tony Scheffler AND a 7th. I'd thought we might see a draft day deal in which the Bears moved up to the 2nd round. That ain't going to happen with trading away next year's picks.

Martz says that Omiyale's moving to right tackle, that Olsen can contribute in his system (and says there's a problem with the system if Olsen doesn't fit,) and that Cutler's exceeded his expectations so far. My two cents: 1. Excellent move as far as Omiyale goes. The guy started to look not-totally-awful at guard toward the end of the season, but he's clearly a tackle and he's much more of a pass-protector than a run-blocker. Beekman's an upgrade from him at LG. If Tice can coach Omiyale up on the switch to the right side (I'm pretty sure he played on the left in Carolina) then he could be a decent option at RT. Especially with Manumaleuna lining up next to hi…

My best draft memories were being on the old site when: 1. The debate when we drafted Ced Benson over Mike Williams when guys were so pissed they were ready to travel cross country to kill each other, and 2. The following year when we traded out of the 1st two take Hester & Manning. Some were ready to burn down Halas. The Super Bowl seemed to lighten everyone up. Everyone was happy with Olsen and then Williams the following year. Either way, it doesn't feel like a draft unless someone calls JA a dirty rotten worthless cock-sucker. I'll be in the chat room all night and tomorrow. (I'm continuing my Al Bundy vacation in the garage with the Bud L…

http://www.theredzone.org/BlogDescription/...il/Default.aspx Panthers may have trouble keeping Kalil Apr 29 4/29/2010 5:06:56 AM | More Panthers general manager Marty Hurney acknowledged the team's inability to sign a pair of young Pro Bowlers, running back DeAngelo Williams and center Ryan Kalil, to contract extensions this year because of new NFL rules, which could lead to their potential departure as unrestricted free agents next year according to Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer. While the Panthers could opt to use their franchise tag to keep Williams if no new deal is reached after next season, they probably couldn't franchise…

http://theredzone.org/BlogDescription/tabi...ns/Default.aspx Judge: Vikings Williamses must serve four-game suspensions May 6 5/6/2010 10:53:44 AM | More Minnesota Vikings Kevin and Pat Williams must serve four-game suspensions even though the NFL is their employer and violated their rights under state labor laws, Hennepin County Judge Gary Larson ruled Thursday according to Rochelle Olson of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The players were granted a court hearing at 2 p.m. They will ask Larson to keep in place a restraining order that allows the Williamses to play pending their appeals. Larson presided over a five-day trial in mid-May th…

Mike Ditka, Dan Hampton pile on Brian Urlacher Posted by Michael David Smith on May 21, 2010 12:52 PM ET Pretty soon, every living Chicago Bears Hall of Famer will have given Brian Urlacher a public scolding. First Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers got into a war of words with Urlacher, then Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus took Sayers' side. Now Hall of Fame defensive tackle Dan Hampton and Hall of Fame tight end (and former head coach) Mike Ditka are dressing Urlacher down as well. Hampton told ESPN Chicago that Urlacher needs thicker skin. "You can't have thin skin if you can't win," Hampton said. "That's just the way it is. Buddy Ryan used t…

http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/05/mi...port_day_1.html Minicamp report: Day 1 By Neil Hayeson May 21, 2010 11:35 AM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Brian Urlacher made a leaping interception of a Jay Cutler pass. Julius Peppers lined up at right and left end and pressured quarterbacks several times, even knocking the ball out of Cutler's hand once. Rookie safety Major Wright, a noted big hitter in college, had to be reminded that the Bears first minicamp practice was a non-contact affair. "It felt good," Peppers said. "It has been a while since we had the helmets on so getting back to football activities is a good thing." It was only a M…

To quote 'Escape from New York' - "I thought you were dead". Hell no. Might as well bring back Crystal Chandelier. Let him stay retired. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...mully24.article Peace

With no pads, it's damn near impossible to grade the lines & defense since they went through the motions. Here's my thoughts on QB's, WR's, and the TE's: 1. The radio guys talked about the all great catches but the secondary was avoiding contact. If you hear the media say, "He made a dazzling one-handed grab" there was typically a safety boring down on the receiver. In live action there'd have been no catch. Our QB's completed like 50 consecutive passes. 2. DA was constantly targeted by Cutler. He made some nice catches where he had to adjust his body and he'd go up and get it. He looks like Andre the Giant next to our other WR's cause they're so short…

I would assume that the old adage applies here; "no news is good news" but just wanted to see if any of you "locals" had heard anything more on Urlacher's status and his calf. Would figure that it shouldn't affect him too much but these days, who knows? I say keep him out for the rest of Preseason, regardless. Let Roach get some more reps in.

Can we please sign him long term. I know his contract is up after this year. At least its been said that he will be back for the 3rd preseason game against the Cardinals. Although seeing Clark taking the duties for the day was very much hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing. Just proves to people that with a Long Snapper that you never know how important it is until your backup is in there lol.
