So here is the current estimated available cap for teams with over $10M in effective cap space. These teams are really the only ones that could sign a player to a decent contract without other cap restructuring. If you consider you need $5M for rookie pool and $5-10M for operating money for the year, The Bears, Falcons, and Packers are really the only teams with room to sign players to a deal that is over $7M AAV. There are still several players left like that. The Bears could sign 2 of them and still have the most cap space. So Poles is not done yet.

But in the video in that article, about 1:10 in, they mention that Cutler said "Not everyone on the team has bought into Trestman yet." I'm not sure what the context was but that's horrible if true. Let me know if you've heard discussions about Cutler's comment and what, if anything, explains it.

Some people are upset over the Bears about the lack of FA involvement, but with almost everybody locked up long term, we only have so much room before we have to start cutting guys and taking cap hits. I have 45 players I feel are locks for the 53 man, at least 5 draft picks will be on the roster, and I have some tweeners that could go either roster, practice squad, or cut. Here's a pretty helpful article on Atogwe's contract situation. Basically, the guy thinks that nobody's making an offer for Atogwe because they don't want the Rams to match, and that teams figure St. Louis will have to let him hit UFA after June 1st (rather than pay him $7 million) so they're waiting until then to start pursuing him. The author also makes it sound like Atogwe's going to drag his feet until June 1st and force the Rams' hand. We'll see...

Dumping Podlesh was no surprise. What's surprising is that he was the only guy cut. If more are coming, why wait? Other possible cuts include Michael Bush, Eric Weems, Peppers, and Earl Bennett. Are we going to wait to upgrade these positions? Make them go into training camp? I know Peppers has the June release date for cap reasons. Your thoughts?
