Barely a half hour into free agency, and the Vikins have set up a Friday visit with Bears receiver Bernard Berrian. Berrian wants a contract that pays out $24.5 million over the first three years, and that includes $12 million guaranteed. He would provide a deep threat for the Vikings' West Coast offense. Have a guy who can stretch the field opens up the various underneath routes in the system. source: pft

Sorry, with free agency only 3 hours away I had to say it. So the guy isn't a guarantee, what player ever is. The guy has talent. Look at the loss to Minny last year. Their offense stunk. Well, except for an explosive RB that won that game for them. With the potential WR's and returning qb's, we need a damn good RB. Let's work on the line, get a running game to compliment the D, and build the rest through the draft.

lol I was driving home today and heard a quote from Moose on Arizona Sports Radio. He claimed he wasn't utilized properly and that the quarterbacks had a problem getting the ball to playmakers like him. No mention of the drops, though. I dont know what was funnier, the fact that he threw the team under the bus on his way out or that he referred to himself as a playmaker.

PFT is reporting that Andre Davis was just re-signed to a 4yr/$16m deal w/ an $8m bonus. Yes, that is right. $8m bonus. Same amount we offered Berrian. Yea, I know we offered Berrian more money overall, but if Andre Davis is going to get $8m, what the heck will a good WR get. I fear the combination of a huge salary cap jump (meaning many teams w/ huge cap dollars to spend) combined w/ a very weak crop of FA WRs, will lead to very mediocre WRs getting paid big bucks and good WRs getting ridiculous money. More than ever, I think this deals sells me that we need to sign short term solutions at WR. After that, we can (a) see if Hester/Bradley/Hass can develop (…

Rams | Team releases Bruce Thu, 28 Feb 2008 14:32:27 -0800 Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams cut WR Isaac Bruce Thursday, Feb. 28. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal and focus on addressing the position in the draft either this year or next with him to help guide the rookie thru the ropes of adjusting to the speed of the NFL?

Rams released WR Isaac Bruce. St. Louis asked Bruce to take a pay cut and he refused. The Rams have put themselves in awful cap condition with poor free agent signings the past few seasons, and now have to cut their most tenured player. Bruce has plenty left in the tank, and will instantly be on San Francisco's radar. If the Rams are smart, they'll make him another contract offer.

I thought it would be a good idea to start a FA Tracker thread with the period opening tomorrow (or actually 11pm tonight). Here is one of many Trackers: http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?bcsi_scan_...F/1kQEAAAAGMHAB

We are rebuilding folks. Ive never seen out WR corps as depleted as they are right now- and they are most likely going to get worse when Berrian skips town. We have 1 unproven injury prone WR in Bradley and Hester who even if he becomes great diminishes our Speacial teams which has saved us in the past. Then our Oline blows even more now then at end of season we lost 2 starters and word is we are not going after any Marquee names in that field. No Fanaca. Our D line has been injured. T. Harris coming off major injury as is dusty devorchak. Ogunleye while he had a great season is one year older and A. Brown was just paid so who knows whether he will …

Don't be surprised if the Bears do end up making a play for Turner and maybe even Flozel Adams. I am certain that Berrian is a gonner, but I wouldn't mind if we picked up a veteran in FA and then maybe used our 2nd round pick on a wide receiver. It wouldn't shcok me to see someone like Brandon Lyod come to Chicago given his teis to Turner and then say the Bears pick up someone like Manningham in the second round.

Benson has been a total waste which ive preached since the day he was drafted. He's slow, a pussy, has poor work ethic and from what we read his teammates hate his ass. I know the draft is a crap shoot but well have to take the chance hes an instant upgrade to the friggin Bass. And from the other post about him losing a step... wow how much slower could he possibly get. Haha. Well have to shore up the Oline with FA, take some guys who fall into the later rounds. Heres my mock Bears 1.Mendenhall 2.Flacco 2. (3rd+3rd)Best Tackle/Guard available or Josh Barrett 4. Best OL

It's been said on the radio 670 the Score that the Bears are not pursuing any big name free agents. This thought angers me b/c IMO we are still close to being a playoff/superbowl contender team. So remembering the Bears recent history with Angelo saying we will be active in FA or not, he is usually honest about which way there going. With that said my conclusion is: 1. We lose Briggs and Berrian in FA without signing significant FA contracts we gain possibly two 3rd round compensation picks in 2008. 2. Our draft board is: RD1=Brohm QB/Mendenhall RB both positions need a new franchise player - I look for the Bears to trade up to the lower 1st round…

The surgery Cedric Benson underwent to repair his fractured ankle required a small plate to hold the bone together. A source told the Chicago Sun Times that the plate and surgery "may cost him a step." Really, how much slower could he be? Benson can trigger a $1.73 million bonus by rushing for 701 yards in 2008, but probably won't get there. The Bears seem likely to find a new starting back this offseason.

As expected, Moose was signed by Carolina, but they also released Carr. Would we be interested in signing Carr as a backup instead of Griese? Carr played with Berrian at Fresno State and played pretty well together. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Aq0c...p&type=lgns

Jonathan Vilma is in Detroit Wednesday to take a physical. Vilma, the No. 12 overall pick in 2004, is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, which he underwent in November. He has experience in a Tampa 2 defense like Detroit's, having played for Herm Edwards 2004-2005. If he's cleared physically, a trade could be announced on Friday.

Citing two NFL sources, AOL Sports' Sean Jensen reports Randy Moss is expected to sign a "multi-year deal" to stay in New England. Jensen writes from Minnesota, so he probably has close ties to Moss or his agent. Jensen believes the contract is expected to be for three years and $30 million with $12-15 million guaranteed. A lot of news that comes out at this time of year is misdirection, but this makes sense. Jensen adds that impending free agent Lance Briggs is slated to sign with San Francisco.
