This due diligence has been performed on John Gruden, Shanahan, and Cowher. Okay, I realize everyone wanted Lovie gone. I did too. After taking a day, I began to think about some positives. Several of the positives are based on "what ifs," and we will have to see what comes of the near future situation. But this is why I am not as upset today. 1. I don't like Lovie. Apparently Marcus Freeman has an enlarged heart, just like Gaines Adams did. His EKG at the Combine was abnormal, so he got a second one. The Bears' doctors either didn't catch his heart condition or didn't think it was a problem (the article doesn't specify,) but when Freeman went to the Colts for a tryout, their doctors said he couldn't safely continue playing. Seriously, I know that awareness of cardiomyopathy among NFL players is just starting to increase, and that these kinds of conditions can be hard to catch in athletes, but it's pretty inexcusable for the Bears' doctors to have missed the diagnosis on both Adams and Freeman. We're at the halfway point now, and there are some pretty obvious holes in the Bears' roster. It's always possible that some of them will be filled by season's end: Chris Williams could learn to play guard, one of our receivers could make the jump to a legit #1, Tommie Harris could reemerge as a great interior pass-rusher. We just played 3 of the top 5 teams. The team and the coaching staff have given us some reasons to be optimistic. They hung with GB. The offense looked good against AZ until Cutler got hurt The Defense looked great against Sea in the first half The Coaches in my opinion have already proved to be 10 times better then the last staff. Currently they have the Bears in the 2nd draft position and one "expert" has them taking Ole Miss DT Nkemdiche and the other "expert has them taking Cal QB Goff.I'm not sure I like either scenario.

This is a big game as a dress rehearsal for the season. Most starters won't play next week. Bears win toss then defer (never understand that in preseason). With defense on field first, Smith dinks and dunks us to death to right past mid field, but Bears hold strong and force a punt from 42. Young with a nice pursuit tackle across field, and no real broken tackles or long plays. Run defense very stout so far, 4 runs for 6 yards.

So who do we draft as a QB to develop if Rex and Kyle fall short of expectations? Everyone seems concerned about QBs in the draft who have problems with mechanics, speed, agility, athleticism, quick release, Big School competition, etc... There have been many QBs drafted who had all of these attributes that flopped as NFL QBs. Ryan Leaf, drafted #2 in round 1 of the 1998 draft. Cade McNown drafted #12 in round 1 of the 1999 draft.
