Shane Waldron hired as the new Bears OC
Eventually we will have a francize QB that we will have to pay mega bucks to keep long term. Those saying we need to get rid of QBs when their rookie contracts expire to help manage the cap have to realize that it is just a normal progression, one we have not had to worry about since our past QBs never justified being paid top dollar. You don't see Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, etc... being cut or traded. They got paid mega bucks. When we find "that guy" we will have no choice but to do so as well. Now, the only question is, will it be Fields or a young stud we draft (hopefully to develop behind Fields as he plays at least one more year in Chicago. <smiling>)

Bears Hire DC - Eric Washington
I'm OK with Flus calling plays for the Defense.

The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
You might be right, so let's make sure he brings along Greg Olsen as QB coach so he can groom him to take over after he gets offered a HC gig.

The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
That is all that was said, that it could happen. No one knows if it will happen. If I could forecast the future, I be one rich dude. No one was using the historical data to predict or prove what will happen, only that it has happened in the past. Of course, we are hoping it will happen again. As I said before, it isn't unusual for a first time HC to take over a crappy team in a full rebuild and struggle. If the GM does his job and provides him with a good roster, then hopefully he can provide the team's fans with a playoff & Super Bowl contender. BUT, it takes time and patience.

Free Agency 2024
Ouch, forgot about the injury. You are right. Too much risk. We need a veteran to start day 1 while a rookie develops.

My guess, he first trades with one of the teams in the top five. As hot as this pick will be, the bidding will be heated. I honestly believe for a small drop in the order, we can get a 2nd this year and at least a 1st for 2025, possibly more. Then with that pick we draft a QB to develop along with, with #9, the top WR available. If, a big IF, he felt the QB could be taken later, another trade down for more picks before we make our first selection at #9.

lol, sorry, but yes it is, and I already explained why, which you in turn refused to accept. Do us all a favor, just drop it, let it die a merciful death, to allow us to move on to discussing the Bears. That would be a delightful change.

Free Agency 2024
I'm all in on C Williams (heard good things) and C Ridley (are they seriously going to let this guy go to FA?) Don't know T Smith. Calvin Ridley, if he hits the market place, will be an expensive get. Might be the top FA WR. Had 1K yds & 8 TDs in 2013. The guy is damn good. I can't believe Jacksonville would let him leave without tagging him.

Harbaugh to Chargers
The thing I found interesting that it has been reported the NFL will not provide Harbaugh a "safe harbor" ie. his alleged NCAA rules violations. He has two ongoing investigations. One for recruiting violations. One for sign-stealing. If the NCAA finds him in violation of the rules, the NFL may very well take disciplinary measures against him.

Agree, 100%.

Harbaugh to Chargers
Then I don't ever want to sit down at a poker table with Warren because he sure seemed sincere when he stated publicly that we had the right people in place, meaning Poles and Flus.

Harbaugh to Chargers
I have not read that anywhere, and I send a lot of time reading articles about the Bears to see what others are saying. Do you have a link?

The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!
The way I read his posting was that there is historical proof that it is possible for a HC to start off with a poor record of wins and losses, and turn it around. (He agrees that it is not guaranteed Flus will do so, just that it is possible as history has proven!) I do not find that inane. Many first time HCs start their career off with a team in rebuild mode. It takes time and patience. To say his use of historical data to support his opinion inane, to me is calling his opinion inane. So I therefore can see why he might be offended.

I'm anxious to see what they had to shell out for him. I bet it was HUGE.

I think Flus will prove to be a very good HC, one that can be very successful. I don't know of any HC that, given what he had to work with to begin his tenure, and the loss of his DC during this season, could have done much better. Yes, in our opinion, he screwed the pooch a few times. Tell me any HC that hasn't! Every HC I have ever seen on the sidelines has made questionable calls. I think Fields will be a very good QB, one that is more than capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl. (I hope it is the Bears and not some team that got him cheap in a trade.) However, like all QBs, he needs pass protection from the OL, reliable targets, and a good OC calling plays. These requirements do not make him a bad QB, it is a basic requirement that needs to be met for any quarterback to maximize his skill set. I have no proof. It's my gut feeling. I could be wrong. I am 75 years old and have been an avid fan forever. Hell, I think I was still in diapers when a fan of the Baltimore Colts, the team of choice for those of us in lower Delaware, my home as a kid. I've been wrong before. This time I believe I am correct in my evaluation. You will lose your shirt if you bet on sports, especially football, based on statistics and history. Every week there is an upset that proves stats and expert analysis doesn't mean shit. You can take your percentages that you use for proof and use them. I understand. I once tried to do so myself, until I realized that sometimes you just have to trust your gut. I believe in Flus. I believe in Fields. If you think that is inane, so be it.

The Search For Our DC Continues?
OK, as I was typing it I added the question because it came to mind he was a 3-4 guy. Won't work. My Bad.

The Search For Our DC Continues?
Vic Fangio just left Miami after one season, reason wasn't given on the report I just heard on Total Access. Now that is one hell of a DC to add to the Bears' staff! Come back to Chicago, Vic, we love ya'. (Damn, I can't remember, did he run a 3 or 4 man front?)

Shane Waldron hired as the new Bears OC
Like several have expressed, I was concerned this was not a "done deal." Especially since it appears other teams were interviewing him for OC (NOS for one). However, if the article I have given the link to below is correct, then my fear was unfounded. It appears, according to this article, Waldron is already interviewing to fill his staff positions, including three coaches who were with him in Seattle. Bears OC Shane Waldron already working on filling out his staff I love it. Talk about getting off the bus running, this immediately brings continuity to the OC & his staff. There was also mention of Greg Olsen but he may be in line for a OC position with another team. Time will tell.

Brushing up on my knowledge of our new OC Waldron, I was encouraged with these two quotes from an article on WindyCityGridiron.com:

Bears OC search
You know, at first I thought it might be a "tell" that they were interested in more info on Caleb, but then I realized that every team looking to draft their next "franchise QB" will be asking Kingsbury his opinions (along with Caleb's HC, Teammates, relatives, friends, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the teams had a background check run on him. By the time they finish, they will not only know what brand of toilet paper he prefers, but which hand he uses to wipe his ass with. LOL)

Bears OC search
Hell's Bells, I sure don't think I would ever want him as a HC, but as an OC, I like the idea. ?
-
Bears OC search
The Bears must be very high on Kingsbury as I read the Bear's brass flew to the west coast to interview him. If they plan on drafting Williams, it would be a brilliant move to sign him as our OC.

Cliff Stein
So Greg said "some things will come out that doesn't look good." Since he also states Williams is the most talented QB in the draft, one can only assume the "some things" are related to character issues. He then adds that the Bears passed on Pickens and Carter because of character issues. Seems to me he is trying to tell us something without betraying any confidence.
