This sort of thing really pisses me off! Back before rookie salaries were slotted I understood problems with negotiations among the high draft picks. However, this type of crap, guaranteed money on year 3 of a 4 year contract, is ridiculous. Does this kid want to start off his first preseason on the sideline watching his teammates get ready to rumble? Hell, get the f**k out there and prove you need a new contract in year three because you're so damn good! That is the way to negotiate! Not playing with your willie while everyone else is kicking ass.

In regards to maintaining an active and interesting discussion about our beloved Bears, I believe this offseason you guys, our faithful posters on Bearstalk, did an amazing job. I thank and applaud all of you!

Not too surprising. His play at the end of his time in Chicago showed he no longer had the mindset to be an elite player. I'm sure Poles saw the same thing in his evaluations. DT Eddie Goldman informs Falcons he intends to retire

I found an old Combine/Draft profile/preview that listed him at 4.53 for the 40. Good for a DL, OL, LB, but not so thrilling for a WR. Then I read he is poor route runner, slow out of his breaks, and therefore, not surprisingly, has a bad YAC. But hey, he is tall. LOL For a 7th in 2024, I guess they are right, it is worth bringing him in and see what he has to offer. With all of these question marks at WR, will we be able to offer enough opportunities in preseason to evaluate them?
-
Well I hope it is a conditional 7th that turns out to be no pick if this guy fails to make the final cut, which wouldn't surprise me. Teams don't give up on "former" 1st round picks without good reason.

Last time I was able to go to a Bears camp was when they were training in Platteville. I had a blast. Unfortunately, I now have trouble just walking across my bedroom, so I will probably never attend another TC. I hope you enjoy your trip. Be sure to give us your impressions after observing them working out.

Article on NFL.com on 10 teams with holes to fill mentions Baltimore, Kansas City, and LA Rams as teams in need of an edge rusher. lemonej made a good case for Arizona needing help at the position. Adam mention Cowboys and Steelers. It seems like there are a lot of teams that might be interested in Quinn prior to the trading deadline. Would we trade him? If the Bears surprise everyone by starting off strong, I don't think they trade Quinn. If, however, they start off below .500, I think they would entertain a trade for the right compensation. The important factor in what we'd receive in return for Quinn would be his production at that point. He stays healthy, racks up 6-8 sacks early in the season, we might get a damn good trade. Here is the link to the article (which mentions Bears in need of WR). Article by Kevin Patra??? Never heard of the guy. 2022 NFL season: 10 biggest remaining roster holes heading into training camp

I just watched the video with Braxton. I'm very impressed. A well spoken young man who seems to have a great attitude. I don't know if it will be week one or week 6 or week ??? but I honestly believe he will be our starting LOT at some point in the near future.
-
There has been speculation since Poles began shaking things up about a possible trade of Quinn. The best I remember reading said for us to get max value for a trade of Quinn to look at what Denver did last November, during the season, before the trade deadline. The got good value waiting for a team needing a pass rusher to help them out on defense. If Quinn has a good start for season I could see a team trading some good picks for Quinn mid-season. Of course, this would also depend on what the Bears are doing. If they are off to a good start they may not want to trade Quinn.

I read notes on today's final day of workouts. It mentions that Jones will be joining Fields and Mooney in Atlanta during their break, I assume staying with Fields at his home. It also hints that others, including Kmet, 'may' be joining them. I was excited when I learned Mooney and Fields spent time together bonding before OTAs. I was hoping Jones and Pringle would join them after OTAs. I'm excited that Jones is indeed going to Atlanta. Now I pray Pringle will join them as I honestly think he will be a starter with Mooney, Jones, and Kmet, giving Fields plenty of weapons to show everyone he is the real deal.
-
Now guys, don't roast me for asking this. I'm not a GM or Scout by any figment of one's imagination. (Plus my memory is crap and getting worse by the years). Didn't Jenkins play some OG in college before moving to OT? Does he have the body, the traits needed, to play OG in the NFL? If Borom at ROT and Jones at LOT turns out to be our best OT combo, would it be a possible solution to our OG problem to move Jenkins to the inside?

I personally do not see the "Larry O contract" to be a "public mishap." They attempted to make an excellent FA signing. IMO, Poles had no way of knowing for sure if Larry O would pass or fail his team physical. One would assume he would pass, right? Poles did exactly the right thing, voiding the contract. If Larry O rehabs and can pass the physical, it would be great to have him resign. Word is he was upset at Bears for voiding his contract. WHY? It is common practice to require the passing of a team physical before a FA signing, or a trade, is finalized. If he is truly upset because Poles voided his deal upon failing the physical (which Larry O probably knew was a possibility) then boo hoo. Sign somewhere else.

I'm not so sure Trevis Gipson can be considered a surprise to any Bear Fan. I honestly believe Gipson will break out with double digit sacks and give us better production than K Mack did during his last two years. "IF" we don't trade Quinn, they will make a very good pair of pass rushers for our D.

I was looking forward to watching Pringle this summer. I had high expectations. After reading the article you linked, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Pringle is the surprise player for the Bears' offense questioned in another thread. I hope Fields gets extra time with all his WRs before camp begins to gain chemistry with them. I know he had Mooney working with him in the off season. We need Jones and Pringle to join them for some extra workouts.

Steelers' DL Stephon Tuitt just announced his retirement at age 29. He was a top shelf player that Pitt will be looking to replace. I mention this because if Poles is looking to fill our 3T DL vacancy through FA, we now have a major competitor. If we snooze, we lose.
-
Hicks was top shelf when healthy. Unfortunately, he began to spend too much time as a spectator on the sidelines, or at home on IR. I know NFL salaries are crazy nowadays, but under the circumstances, 10M for a 1 yr deal seems a bit risky.
-
I read today that Flus is excited about Fields' ability to throw accurately deep, downfield. (Something he was known for at Ohio State). Couple that with the crazy speed Poles has brought into the WR Room and it makes me excited imagining what this offense will be like. Fields rolling out of the pocket, throwing to Jones over the middle or downfield to Mooney, OR running the ball. Our offense should cause opposing DCs to have a few sleepless nights preparing for us. Pass the Kool-Aid =

NFL.com, BearsWire, NBCSports, WindyCityGridiron, etc... I've searched everywhere I usually go for news on the Bears and no one is posting anything about this rape allegation. I would have to believe if there was an ounce of credibility it would be all over the news.
-
Also agree. I'm reading that some predict we would get draft picks in exchange for Quinn that would equal or possibly eclipse that which was received for Von Miller. The added bonus, if such a trade took place, is that we will have even more cap space for the next FA period.
-
I'm anxious to see what happens after June 1st cuts. With 15M in his bank, is Poles waiting to see all options available to him before he makes any further moves? It would make sense. There will be a few more surprise moves before the season begins.
-
I suspect it is time for him to retire from the NFL and move on. He had trouble recovering from previous knee injury, This may be just too much for him to overcome. I hope I'm wrong.
-
Sorry, I know this is not "Bears" related. Watching reruns on NFL Network today, a question came to mind that I'm sure one of you guys could answer for me. Are there any black place kickers or punters in the NFL? I cannot think of any.
-
The G Gabriel interview was fantastic. I really enjoyed listening to this guy. I feel a lot more confident in our WR room after listening to his take. I truly believe St Brown and Pringle are going to shut up a lot of critics. Mooney, St Brown, Pringle, & Jones are going to be a huge upgrade for Fields to target. As far as the OL, I have my fingers crossed. This should be Poles' strength because of his background. Are the pieces to the puzzle already aboard or is he biding his time to pick up a vet fa after the dust settles?
-
I'm also optimistic. Much easier schedule & improved coaching staff will give us a boost in the win column over last year. Add to that some solid roster moves by Poles & Flus and I see no reason why we can't be in the 9 to 10 win spot. In a 17 game run, for us to win slightly more than 50% of our games is not unreasonable.

There has been an essay by Tarik Cohen published. It had to be one of the most difficult stories I have ever read. The personal tragedies that Tarik has experienced are so extreme it's amazing he was able to survive. To resist the temptation to commit suicide. A link to the full essay is below. I know Tarik is no longer with the Bears, but I always liked the guy. Was sorry to see him released, even though I could understand why he had to be let go. I hope everyone takes a few minutes and reads his self portrait. Letter to My Younger Self - by Tarik Cohen
