Well when you have 6 starting WRs, you make a trade. We are a good team with a deep roster, and we have to start getting used to the idea of trading GOOD players. We havent been here before, Patriot fans live it every year. I see Gabriel's role diminishing sharply this year, and I think he is worth something to someone else. If not this year, then next year. But Miller, Patterson and Ridley are all going to take touches away from Gabriel, and the meat of Gabriel's role, the Jet Sweep, is gonna be all Patterson. Also to the idea that all we have now is young receivers with potential, I think Miller has already shown it, and Patterson has for sure, although hes more of a chess piece than a strict #2 WR. Still, Gabriel isnt the Jet sweep guy anymore, and he might be worth more to another team.

I mean the rookie WR UDFA Emanuel Hall. He's 6' 2" ran a 4.39 40. I'm saying he and Wims battle for the 6th spot IF they keep 6 WRs. Even if Wims supplants Robinson, which I dont really see. They won't cut Robinson mid year, so barring a trade, Wims may be battling Robinson over the next couple of years for his role, but not his roster spot in 2019. I agree that Gabriel is in the hot seat, but his competition is Miller more than Wims. Interestingly though, if Miller ascends, and they release Gabriel, which is a lot more likely than Robinson getting released, then that WOULD cement Wims' roster spot. So Wims is fighting to supplant Robinson on the field, but if he's gonna make the roster, he needs to blow away Hall OR have Miller make Gabriel expendable. Keep in mind that Gabriel's main role was the Jet sweep, which Patterson will now own. The more I look at things, the more I think Gabriel is in trouble. I suppose he was a stop gap measure from Pace, being that Gabriel is so small, to get speed for Nagy until Pace could draft it in a larger package. With Ridley, Miller & Patterson on the roster, I wonder what we could get in trade for Gabriel...

If we keep 6 WRs, then Wims will battle Hall for the 6th spot, unless Taylor Gabriel is on the bubble. As weird as this may seem - Im not sure Wims will make the roster this year. If they can hide him on injured reserve that might be the most likely way he is still a Bear in a couple years.

He is SO good, and such a good guy. I really like him, and you can see the guy knows what he's doing. So Hicks and Mack playing right next to each other, with Goldman right next to Hicks on the other side, and Smith standing behind them. And Floyd and Trevathan on the other side. Not bad not bad at all. And having the best safety in the game behind that doesnt suck either. We are going to be good this year.

exactly. I think Daniel, Long and Trevathan are the most likely to get traded or cut in that order.

FWIW, Im the guy that added the word "inconsistent" to this thread, and I saw him play some VERY impressive games, and then he had some poor ones too. That's to be expected with a young QB, his first year in the offense. I dont think he is doomed to be inconsistent, I am very optimistic about his future. Last year, he looked young. But when the light was on, he looked top 5. I expect more consistency this year, and Im a big fan.

totally agree. I think he will do very well this year. I think sooner or later he will be a top 5 QB.

amen. Stats aside, you ask yourself, if it was just for one year, this coming season, would you rather have Trubisky or X? And I dont think there are 14 QBs in the league Id pick before Trubisky for just 2020. He might not be top 10, but he's probably hanging around that threshold. And if you widen it out to mean the next few years, Ill take Trubisky. Sure if a young Brady was available for the same price yada yada, but he isnt, and Trubisky is no slouch. He wasnt bad last year either, he was inconsistent. ANd that will change as he grows. He definitely showed times where he was a top 5 QB.

And let's not forget that we got Oaklands 2020 second rounder in return for our 2020 first rounder. If we do well this year, and our first rounder is low, and the Raiders suck, and their 2rd rounder is high, that pick might only be a trade down of a few spots, which is almost nothing. So really we got Mack for a first, a third, a sixth, and a trade down of a few spots on our first rounder in 2020. Not too shabby at all. And not two firsts by any means.

Wouldnt it be great if Floyd breaks out and becomes a dominant pass rusher this season? That'd be huge with Mack on the other side.

I dont believe they intend to short change Trubisky, that's just how their ridiculous system ended up grading him. What I saw was a QB with a lot of great qualities who had a few really great games and a few poor ones. I also saw him grow from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. If he can string together more of those good performances, I think everyone will have to say that hes a top 10 QB in the league. I really think this is all just a matter of the draft day common wisdom that trading up was a bad move. I dont agree with that. But more so, even if it was true, it shouldnt tarnish the player, taken at 2 instead of 3. He isnt responsible for the picks they traded. It's all so silly. Just narratives bouncing around an echo chamber of media and internet people repeating the same things to each other.

well said adam. PFF is just silliness. They use real math to relate data which is really just opinions about performances from too small of a sample size. it would be as if I asked 5 of my friends to go a different movie each, and then asked them how they thought the one they saw rated on a scale of 1 to 10. You dont have the same people seeing the same movies so their internal rating systems dont even overlap. Then I hide behind actually good math relating that poor data and call it science. Ridiculous.

I had Pineiro as my 7th round pick two years ago in the mock drafts. I am happy we are taking a look at him. If we end up with him, or better, I think we will be OK.

He definitely got better at the deep throw in the last part of ther season when he started to trust it and stopped aiming it. One thing I saw from him all of last year was a quick release. He may not have always made the right reads, but he made quick decisions, and as more of those decisions turn out to be the right ones, his rhythm should really shine

Honestly it all goes back to the idea that Pace screwed up by trading from 3 to 2 to get him. I dont think he did, but that was a media narrative. Add that to the amazing year Mahomes had, and you get the "story" that Trubisky is a big mistake. Which is a nice story, but bears (ha bears) no resemblance to reality.

They sure whipped our butts for a couple decades with Favre and Rodgers. The lifetime series has the Packers ahead by two games. That means this year if we sweep them, we will be dead even after 100 years of football, heading into the meat of the Trubisky Nagy Pace era. Time for payback. I hate the Packers, but I LOVE to hate the Packers. It's not like New York and Philly fans who would actually fight in the parking lot. Who would Batman be without the Joker? I LOVE the Packers, thank god they exist so we can beat them.

AZ - right, but theyre saying it is literally night and day compared to training camp last year, not compared to week 17. I get that this is the new baseline that he grows from this year, and that awesome, but they arent saying this is a whole new Mitch Trubisky, theyre just saying he will keep growing from where he left off last year.

I think what they keep saying is how far ahead of where they were THIS TIME last year, not at the end of the season, and thats really not news. We have to see him progress from where he was at the end of last year - and I expect that too, but if you listen, thats not what theyre saying. Theyre not saying he isnt either, they are just saying safe things for the reporters
