Kevin White missed OTA practice, concerns
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0523-story.html Looks like Kevin White missed todays OTA after participating yesterday. When Fox was asked about it, he basically said it is one practice, we are not going to worry about it. Reporters on the other hand are feeling a little deja vu and wonder if he had a set back. Others that missed:Hronis Grasu, Kyle Long, Danny Trevathan, Zach Miller, Pernell McPhee, Willie Young Most who have missed had offseason surgery. ..

Trubisky. Steakhouse. James MacMahon...
Eventully they will have to either draft the backup or sign a cheap veteran. I don't see Glennon here for 3 years, maybe two. They would need to draft a guy next year if they want him up to speed to be a #2 by year 3 of Trubiskys career. Otherwise they will be signing the vet backup. It is hard to squeeze a qb in the draft again, but I see it coming in somewhere in the next two years.

If Glennon does light it up, we would have a problem. A good one to have I would add. I expect Trubisky to sit all of this season and compete to start in 2018. At some point they will need to find a solid backup that doesn't cost 15 million or whatever Glennon makes. I can see going 2 years with him but it is hard to see 3. As for drafting one, getting that steal in a year the QB class is rich would be nice. I find it hard to draft real late round guys like Enderle or Fales when their survival rate usually 2-3 years in the league, so I would go round 4 preferably or find a savy veteran that is good being a backup.

Having a QB in place is the key, Pace understands the importance and made sure this time he got his guy. If he was smart, he would hedge his bet in the next year or two with another prospect with a 3rd or 4th round prospect. Since next season is supposed to be loaded, we may get a higher valued prospect further down the draft.

Is a franchise QB really needed?
This says it all. You need a leader and one that earns the position and is not annoited to it.

Great article! Hope those convictions are correct, Pace was brought in for this and we should now start seeing the fruits of his evaluations since his players are stepping into year 3 now.

About Those Wonderful 2018 QBs
I'm a draft geek, searched for 2018 mock drafts the Sunday morning after the draft. I agree, I think we need a OLT and would love the kid from Notre Dame (McGlinchey) or Texas (Connor Williams). I wouldn't be surprised if we draft another edge rushers to play opposite of Floyd.

About Those Wonderful 2018 QBs
There are interesting QB prospects for next year, but none are guaranteed home runs and right now they look to need time to sit/groom also.. If you continue to read his articles, I like what he wrote about FSU S Derwin James. 6'3" 211 hits like a freight train, team leader, top 5 pick, combination of Jamal Adams and Rueben Foster. Maybe we get our S in 2018 draft?

If the Bears' OL did change
I doubt he gets cut this year as you said. It would take a scenario of all other players are better or as good (Grasu, Whitehair, Long, Kush, and Morgan) for something like that to happen. Plus what can they even do with his extra cap, I think they still have a lot of space left.
-
If the Bears' OL did change
I already have them taking OLT in my very early mock drafts. Fanspeak.com has the 2018 drafts up to practice when your bored.

If the Bears' OL did change
I am pretty good with leaving it as it is because I imagine next year we address LT early and cut Sitton. Morgan or possibly Whitehair will move to LG. Sitton may be a cut this year if Grasu looks better than Whitehair a C and they want to start the transistion early. Kush can also play C I believe. The Whitehair Sitton Grasu Morgan Long would be interesting to see though

glass half full Pace
Just a thought, but if Cleveland knew we were drafting Trubisky, do you think they would have taken hom at #1? I thought I heard we kept Cle occupied by entertaining them with the #3 pick while we worked on moving up with SF. If what Moon reported has merit, we could have a steal and the funniest part is he was booed by his new hometown because people jump to conclusions to quickly. Pace has done pretty good for what he started with. We are to the point to needing one or two more drafts, probably two since we traded some picks to secure a QB.

I read a whole blog on this and it made sense. To be good or great, you need a long term plan. Same coaches and system will give the team so much flexibility and stability. Keep changing and expect 2-4 years to transition. Fox is alright, but not a 10 year run guy. Wish they would have promoted Gase or hired him before Fox came to the picture.

Anyone think we may move on from Fox after this year and try to lure in Harbaugh? Re-unite him and Fangio, that would make things more exciting. Trubisky might fit Harbaugh's read option well as I believe NC played that style. We got our QB, having a functioning offense might become a plus for once.

Day 1 is done
Could you imagine that. Wish Chicago would jump on his bandwagon fully, great reason to be excited. Chicago seems to have dumbed down lately though, the fans booing ...reading comment lines after newspaper articles....etc. Concern and criticism is fine, Iam concerned and 3 years I may be critical.

Is a franchise QB really needed?
I agree, we did that with Shea, Long, Fuller, White, and Floyd or who ever else we could have taken but I suppose this QB is our 3rd, 4th, and next years 3rd also. It is a coin toss, glad we don't have to worry about it for a few years now.

Is a franchise QB really needed?
When you don't have one, you do whatever it takes like Bill said. The Bears were lucky to get their target and it cost far less than what you see teams trade to get one. Like TD said, we don't need another for a least a few years so now we are cashing in. A QB needy team may be giving us a call next year asking the price to trade up and we can end up with additional/future picks.

I think it is having the right system from top down gets you to the big dance. The teams that are consistantly good have GM, coach, and a QB that have been together for a long time. You might sneak in by building a dynamic D or O, but having the 3 I listed will get you more opportunities than focusing on one direction. Great minds can find a way with lower level talent. The piece that worries me the most is Fox more so because of his age. This team is young and growing with a long term coach is more of a concern to me going forward.

Gil Brandt's Impact Rookies
That is fine, just like playing the Price is Right, I am under shooting my guess to give me a better chance to win. I threw out the T Hill comparison shortly after drafting him once I looked into his profile. I think he will be a good option and he offers more to the team than if they selected a WR in round 4 or even another RB that matches the skill set of Howard. If he can field kicks/punts, his value doubles, but he has not done that in game situations and will take work to win confidence.
-
Gil Brandt's Impact Rookies
I feel like this is like projecting Garrett Wolfe all over again. Not sure if we did it on here or something I discussed with friends LoL. I will go along the lines of: 250 rushing yds and 350 recv yards with 2 TDs. (to play it safe)

Gil Brandt's Impact Rookies
For all the offensive positions we could have drafted to make an instant impact with a 4th rd pick, a player with Cohens talents was the most fitting. It can be argued if it was too early to take, but we were limited with picks. Also saying a 3rd down back isn't value, what would another WR or comparable back to Howard bring if we went that route? I think Cohen will give us more than any other offensive position who would be deeper on the depth chart and fighting to even make the roster.

Roster Moves
Hate to see Sutton go, he was a class act and gave his all. Wish him the best of luck where ever he lands. Hope he finds the best fit for his strengths which would be at 3T imo. Royal was a no brainer, he finally looked good when healthy, but it never lasted. Laslike brought an interesting aspect to the game, but we rarely used. I see Stevenson spending most of the time on the practice squad and getting bumped for games we think it will be a running grind it out game, similiar to how we used Laslike. Cruz is another dart on the WR board. The amount of competition brought in should bring the best out of a couple to get a couple of bulls.

Walter Football Draft Grade
I have no issue with it. I think we got bit twice a few years back. Aaron Donald and possibly Leonard Williams the following year. The guys we got instead were Kyle Fuller and Kevin White and neither has worked out for us as of yet.
-
Don't cry for Mike Glennon
I think they still had that money, shows 26 million still available. I think they set a limit on those guys and they exceeded it, which is ok if you are not contending and one was a final piece type move.

2018 draft outlook
I think there could be a good chance we see anywhere from pick 5-14. The schedule the first half of the season will be tough, we will have a lot of new starters (Glennon, Jaye Howard, Cooper, Amukamara, Demps and 2-3 wr's) to gel. Having a high pick again could give us a chance at the top OLT or getting multiple high picks.
