More moves - Resigned Josh Blackwell and signed TE Durham Smythe
ASHKUM BEAR replied to dawhizz's topic in Bearstalk
I'll add that LB Jack Sanborn will not be back. LB might be a need unless Sewell can get his butt into playing significant time. -
Exactly. The DLine and Oline is pretty deep and a guy we can take at 10 could be graded similiar at 39. Jentry might be too good to pass. I tought investing in a stud RB is a year early for the Bears, but I didn't see a Thuney or Jackson being added to the interior. FA starts next week and we might be happy with the O/D lines and can take a game changer.

I understand and preach building the trenches. This is more the case if they sign Dalman for Center and sign a DE like Josh Sweat or Kahlil Mack. The would still have 2nd round picks to get developmental prospects for the trenches.

The Bears were almost 80 mil under the cap a week ago. The two G's we traded for cost us nothing in 2026 unless we resign them. The cap is projected to go up another 20 million in 2026 and that will put the Bears around 80-90 million under the cap without figuring Gordon or Brisker. The Bears cannot be cheap anymore. I'd prefer a LT or DE with the first Rd pick, but if Jentry is a once a decade RB, I can live with it regardless of what is tied to Swift.
-
Why not, the nfl will raise the cap 20 million again next year. Buy your team now while we have the cap space and don't p@ssyfoot because this is about the only window we have with 3 years left before paying Caleb. Yes 3, he will demand an early pay if he is who we thought he'd be.

I am liking it and it makes the draft a wildcard. Campbell or Graham if they fall, Jentry if we feel he's the icing on the cake, Starks at safety, or trade down and help fill depth with good potential for the future.
-
Joey Bosa DE released by Chargers. Does he have anything left to bring.
-
Thoughts on double dipping on LG with these trades? It's looking like Johna Jackson might be depth or maybe Center after giving a 2026 4th for Thuney. Not sure Jackson can play RG, he is not known as great road grader. I am happy the Bears are addressing the oline. Sign Dalman for the trifecta and sign a DE to give Sweat some help and draft BPA. Jentry might be the guy if they can get some more big guys before draft day.
-
Jarron Gilbert - the jump out of the pool kid.
-
It helps to open all doors. If they sign Kahlil Mack as rumored, that opens it wider. Zeiter and Dalman and who knows, they can take anyone like Simmons or Jentry. The DL is deep, they can get good players in round 2 or 3.
-
Since NIL, the draft is not as deep as before. Poles will spend 6, or 7th rounders to bring in guys that can start rather than draft someone that will be practice squad most likely. In last years draft 16 players in the 6th round played 10 or more games and 10 players in 7th round played 10 or more games. They traded for a guy who can start all 17 if he can stay healthy. If he doesn't work out, they don't owe him anything in 2026 if they cut him.
-
Bears making a trade with Rams for LG Jonah Jackson One of the better pulling guards if he can stay healthy. A 2025 6th round pick is it. This helps fill a need and costs a pick that would have been a developmental player at best.

Greg Gabriel is also a former scout and he is wrong more than right, lol. I love Greg's stuff and his attitude because he triggers so many. I do think Zabel and Membou can be players in this league, what position is the question.
-
Booker might be the safest pick. Membou had a good combine, but I don't know much about him yet. Need to do some digging. I think Zabel surprises and is gone before the second. He showed good combine results and can pretty much play every position. If he makes it to 39, we better jump on him.
-
Looks like they might. They know he is cheaper than RW for possibly the same output.
-
I heard the Steelers want to go with JF going forward.

In a way it stinks that the NFL raises the cap so much that it rewards good teams so they can retain key players. The Bears have really no one to retain and may not be able to get the FAs they were eyeing. They can and should extend Gordan. They will more than likely over spend on some of their top targets since they have so much cap. Then they need a miracle in the draft. Carter, Graham, or Campbell falling to 10 would that kind of miracle we need.
-
The Bears are not in position to take a 1st rd RB or TE for that matter. They have one for sure starter on the oline, leaving LT open because Poles himself said they will have competition. They need a DE opposite of Sweat and should add DTs to rotate with Dexter and Billings. I don't want Shemars combine results to influence the Bears. Stick to game tapes and if they see something they can fix, maybe but not at pick 10. When the Bears are real and not on paper, they can swing for a Jentry round 1. If it came down to Booker G or Jentry RB, take that stud G that will make Swift/Roschon that much better.
-
Have to put every tackle in this group too. They are almost all eligible to playing inside.
-
As soon as they announced the cap raise it was a given. If KC had no room but to go to Mahomey it was a possibility. Now to Dalman
-
Braxton is not bad, he is serviceable as we have seen. The goal is to have greatness and if you can find it at LT, you covered one of the toughest positions to draft. This draft is not looking good to get that so far unless some arms measure longer or a guy like Simmons shows clean health. The Bears have to deeply analyze this class because the blueprint says this is their last draft in the top half or even top 10 for many years. Banks might be a great LG that can play LT year 2. Your guy Zabel, who might sneak into round 1 can possibly play every position. If he is there with our 2nd, he'd be a nice addition. Donovan Jackson, they say doesn't move well so he might not fit what the Bears want to do.
-
I think we all learned the Poles don't know much about the oline and he will listen to Johnson and Roshar for their input. Poles has thrown 6 darts in the draft, signed a dozen or so free agents, and traded for 3 or so. We are looking at Darnell Wright, Kiran, Braxton, and Bates as our roster today. They will be active in fa and the draft and if the like a LT in the draft, they won't hesitate bc they have 2 guys already on the roster. I see Campbell gone myself, so imo it comes down to Banks, DE or trade down.
-
I am surprised no one has brought up much about the interviews from the combine. Poles said the Bears will have competition for LT when he was asked. Now we don't know if he means Kiran or a draft pick, but Braxtons job is not a lock.
-
For sure, Poles and Johnson talked to Jentry right away. I just see that #1 pick going to D or Oline, or trade down. Jentry would be a great pick next year if the oline is established.

Drafttek I believe uses a newer version. https://www.drafttek.com/nfl-trade-value-chart.asp 100 points= a 3rd(in the compensation slots which is pick 100)
