    Ha Ha vs Amos

I feel we just swapped better run defense skills for better coverage skills. If Ha-Ha stays disciplined and does not get selfish going after big play after big play then we'll be just fine. Ha-Ha has a lot of future money riding on the line this year. Having Eddie Jackson in his ear helps in a big way.
  2. I see us needing two RB at the moment. I can see one taken in Rd3/4 and then using one of our 7th Rd picks on another. Drafting two would give us some flexibility to take a chance on someone like Love or Rodney Anderson. I can't see us taking a risk and using the higher pick on an injured player.

    Draft RB

Bearswire listed 4 RBs in the draft who could replace Howard. Alex Barnes is one I hadn't yet scouted. His NFL comp is Matt Forte and he wears #34...that's a good place to start. Actually the Forte comp feels right. He's not great at anything but is something of a jack-of-all-trades. He has some nice receptions deep down field including a nice one-handed grab between the CB and S down the sideline. He's so far down the list of prospects he's definitely someone for late Day 3.
  4. I was in the trade Howard camp since it seemed inevitable he wasn't a good fit in this offense but this is not a Ryan Pace type of move, and I don't like it. I don't see the proper return value so it seems we should have just stuck with him through camp. More importantly Pace always wants to go into the draft with no glaring needs. Now he has one. Cohen is not really a RB in the NFL but he can handle a few snaps there. Davis is just a 3rd RB. The only way I'd have expected Pace to make this deal is if he has another RB already agreeing to a deal, someone like TJ Yeldon. That FA will cost him 3-5mil/yr and he didn't want to also eat Howard's $2mil cap hit. Even if we sign a FA this now leaves room on the roster for a rookie RB. I have to believe some FA RB news is on the horizon.
  5. He also said that in years past it wasn't always that way “To be honest, sometimes you can be in a position where guys just flat out don’t want to be there. Or if you want them, you have to grossly overpay." We know that pretty much holds true with the FAs he had to bring here in the last few years. To his credit he always left a way out after a year even if it cost him a lot to do that while also managing to keep around the few good players like Hicks and Amukamara.
  6. Because Nagy wants to use page 2 of the play sheet on early downs. We just signed Mizzell's replacement so that misery should be gone. I like Jordan Howard a lot but we'll never see plays like the one at 3:50sec. Every time I watch some film on a mid-round RB prospect I come back and watch some of Henderson. Each time I think Henderson is the better prospect. He's not perfect and I don't see him ever handling a workload like Howard can but with some RBbyCommittee with Davis, Cohen, and now even Patterson sprinkled in we'd be ok.
  7. I don't quite see the 3rd Rd love for Ximines. I see him ranked around 100 overall in a lot of places. When I watch this I see a guy who is good only when nobody blocks him for the first 3 quarters. Then late in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line he looks like a completely different player. I'd take the 4th quarter version in a heartbeat but that lack of effort raises questions marks for me. I watched a second game against Marshall as well and there he looked better and more aggressive but that's against lesser competition. How does all this translate against NFL OTs? He doesn't have a lot of length either but seems to be pretty strong. IMO he seems more like a day 3 prospect.
  8. Is that the right URL? Nothing shows up for me.

    Edge rusher

I don't want to be in the mix at that price. I figured he'd be a good $7-9mil/yr player depending on how serious the injury history is.

    O'Donnell Returns

I suspect that was actually a post I wrote and the info came from my son as we watched a game late in the season. He was a college soccer player who could pretty much put a soccer ball on whichever post you wanted it.
  11. If you like running draft simulations these guys have built a good one. What I like most is you can pull up a players draft profile on the side so it's easy to review several options, in case you can't make up your mind too easily. That's helpful for me in the later rounds. https://thedraftnetwork.com/mock-draft-machine

Ah... that would be the mystery.

Getting a solid footing on your plant foot would worry me more than wind.

    There is this... https://twitter.com/chicagobears/status/1107806964107616256?s=21
  15. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1107812393105739781 2yr $4mil is more than I wanted to pay
  16. I think Gabriel prefers to be running free down the field much further away from the LBs.
  17. If that happens I'd be very happy.
  18. I assume we want to bring in a veteran FA to support OLB. If I'm correct it's telling that the Bears have been quiet about re-signing Aaron Lynch. He played decently last year but clearly Pace is scanning the OLB FA market before making his decision.

    Callahan

I could see that. No risk it no biscuit and now that Callahan has Flacco as his QB he'll get plenty of opportunities to earn his $7mil.
  20. I don't think he goes anywhere unless or until we have a replacement. That could all happen in a single trade.
  21. It seems to me the Packers paid a lot of money to several average players in FA, and I include Amos in that assessment as well.

    Callahan

= Skrine + whoever else we get with the extra $1.5mil in cap savings. I think we'll be fine and it's nice to see Callahan get paid.
  23. He's here tonight and tomorrow which is interesting and I'm sure Jason is happy to see this. I expect somewhere in this trip he'll spend some time with Eddie Jackson. As a player I view him as better in coverage than Amos but not as good at tackling. HHCD had his fair share of coverage lapses too but he's a better playmaker when the ball is in the air. In that sense he always seemed to be more of a FS than SS and Jackson is not leaving that role. If Pagano wants multiple inside-the-numbers coverage options behind his blitz schemes he'll have them with HHCD, Jackson, Skrine, Roquan, Floyd, and Trevathan. What he's looking for in his next contract is hard to guess now that he's been on back burner for a bit. Pace wouldn't be talking with him in person this much if they weren't somewhat close on contract parameters. Would Pace do a deal for HHCD similar to what Amos got? https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/bears-reportedly-courting-free-agent-safety-ha-ha-clinton-dix-amos-redskins-free-agency-rumors
  24. Pace does not like to go into the draft with a "need" so you can bet we'll sign someone at safety. The only question is at what cost.
