I was overall pleased with how kyle handled himself in his first start of the season on the road against a good colts team. Forte and Jone had a nice game. TE's played well but we need to use Olsen more in the slot. Very conservative game plan and for the most part a mistake free game. Only mistake that I recall was Hester getting cute and getting tackled at the 5yd line on a delayed kick return try. There where also a few incompletions on deep routes that indy could had a long gain or score but the Vasher and Tillman lucked out on. Coaching and the OL did a nice job as well.

Just maybe the Bears really have a secret training camp ritual like in the movie "fight club"? You know; they want the rest of the teams in the league to think they are soft and complacent but that country club camp is only a facade! First rule of TC is we don't talk about tackling in TC. Second rule of TC is we don't tackle in preseason games. The third rule, Lovies alter ego "Tyler Green" played by Brian Urlacher portrays for the media a man upset about the "D's" performance to smokescreen the secret brutal under ground tackling club which has the "D" slightly banged up but toughened and hungry for revenge on the Colts and the rest of their 2008 opponents! This theory could really explain why the Bears finally got rid of Benson after handing him the Starting job. Just Despite not performing and beyond the fact that the former number 1 pick Benson just flat out sucked but rather that he broke rule number one and let the cat out of the bag on "TC". Look at the mug shot of CB that TerraTor uses as a signature. Absolutely hideous and the boating incedent has to be a cover up! I first started suspecting something was going on but just could not see any corelations but then I discovered a pattern of freak and unexplicable injuries emerge over the past few season. First there was the Kruetz / Miller mishap that left starting RT Fred Miller with a busted jaw. Then there was the alarming rash of rookies to somehow end up on the IR during TC prior to the start of the regular season. Some in the most recent years include Dusty, Bauzine, Okwo, and now quite possibly our first round pick Williams? I just hope going through all this pays off and we are about to find out!

I never said that I am giving Marty a pass -- he was not used during the preseason from what I saw so none of us have an idea what he can actually do but I expect him to perform in the clutch. Marty was definatley brought in to replace mm not bb. Llyod is most likely capable of replacing BB. I really like Rideau and what he has shown and give us a tall receiver capable of making plays. I want the best players on the field regardless but there must be a ballance of veteran and youth to provide chemistry, leadership, and stability on the offensive unit. I am also concerned about the D but they should recover there form and the preseason was more about avoiding unecessary injuries than performance. Let's face it if the O does not produce than it really won't matter how good our D is cause the team will not be able to score enough when needed. I even suggested looking at FA WR Chad Jackson beacuse the bears need to make this team better any way possible.

I think most are missing the point on why Booker is here. He has a role as a veteran player who is capable of being the guy that can still make clutch cathces to help keep the chains moving as in getting clutch first downs when his number is called. I can not emphasize how important this role is for a Bears "D" who can't seem to ever got off the field. Marty is not being asked to be our number 1 WR and is not here to stretch the field vertically to open up the running game but he is still a good run blocking WR. What Marty will not be is a headache nor distraction. He will be the professional who once played here now asked to be a leader among the young recieving corp that we have here; a player coach if you will. If he can hlep accelerate the learning curve for Hester, Bennett, and Rideau while performing in the clutch than I think he will meeting the expectations of the Coaching Staff.

Sorry, but I was being sarcastic when refering to the Bears vanillia play book and Hester. Should have been more direct on that point. But it definatley can not be as complex as other teams who are more creative. Chad tore his ACL in the 2006 AFC Championship game, and was still slowed by it in '07 which made him a non factor but he at did put up decent numbers as a rookie. I don't think the Bears can afford not to at least explore every possible option to improve this team offensively. They should bring him in for a tryout/workout especially when they have neglected the offense side of the ball and have a great deal of improvement to get to a respectful unit when compared to the rest of the league. I am not sold on Metcalf and he is only a lock for the IR! If the Bears were so confident with Metcalf than why did they just trade for a LG and not sign a FA Tackle? I am not disputing the need for more depth on OLine just don't feel Metcalf has proved that he can be relied upon. I would rather have the rookie Barton backup at T and Guard. And that is why I selected Metcalf as a candidate to be the possible one to go. I would cut Guard Terrence Metcalf -- he has been on the team 6 years and has not done Squat. I would take my chances and carry an extra reciever -- worst case they would have to call up a G/T from the practice squad. Jackson was injured most of the time in NE and could benefit from a new start but it probably will be somewhere like the Bengals who have a lot of injuries at WR. The Bears playbook should be easier for him to learn, wr bubble screen, short out and then run deep. He can't be any worse than Hester at learning the playbook and has some nice upside if healthy.

I saw that he was released and not sure if he signed with anyone -- he has some talent but injury problems. Do you take a look?

BigD, You forgot the Super Bowl Revenge factor -- even though that was 2 yrs ago now! They need to go into INDY and pound them. I agree that if the OL can hold up then there is nothing wrong with having a blue collard type offense (no stars) but guys hungry and not afraid of working hard to get the job done. This years O will be better than last years team probaby. I really like our TE threat especially in the RZ -- Olens, Davis and Clark could creat some advantages mismatches. Our number one goal needs to get first downs and move the chains, keep the D fresh and not to leave points on the field. I am a sox fan and it frustrates me with there boom or bust offense which seems to live and die by the long ball. The Bears can not afford to do this as the 3-in-and-outs over the last few seasons has really started to take is toll on the health and play of out top 5 D potential unit.

What makes me more frustrated is that Tony Ugoh was projected in the combine as an athletic starting LT prospect and while the team new they had an aging OL the Bears got cute and traded down for a guy that they just cut! Ugoh could be starting at LT this season after replacing Miller last season at RT. Then they copuld have added Braden Albert this year instead of Williams and plugged him in at LG but what do I know I am no draft guru!

Though not as fast as BB is I think Rideau will be the guy that can replace Berrian in this offense -- here to hoping JA new what he was doing when he let BB go.

I also thought Polite was more of a pure fullback and out performed Mckie from what I saw in preseason.

I was hoping that the bears would have drafted Branden Alberts but think he even start training camp hurt for KC but if we could have signed an OG like Faneca we could have helped the over quality and depth of the online thus possibly helping the QB and RB play as well? I think the Bears need to hire an Offensive Talent Evaluating Consultant now to start scouting before next years draft?

I hope they keep Brandon Rideau -- he has show that he can get open, make catches in traffic and oh score TD's (at least in pre-season).

The real shame here is that there probably was a good OL that we could have drafted and developed in his place which could have been really helpful this year.

Sounds about right. Hopefully by throwing to the dual TE Olsen & Davis combo we can atleast get Robbie into Feild goal range! Maybe they should consider going with a # TE set!

I 2nd this post; too bad for Rex because there are many things I like about him. Rex has battled adversity his entire career and I know he will be ready if and when his name is called because he is a real professional, the way he has gone about his business. This decision may have saved Rex's career by not naming him the starter especially with how the Oline played in SEA. Just think if the regular season started that way with Rex at QB there is no way the fans would let up on the guy. From my point of view the QB gets too much credit when things go well and again too much criticsm when they go bad. This decision should light a fire under Rex but also reinforce that the bone head turn overs have got to stop. So ultimatley they are rewarding Kyle for his overall strength of managing the game but he will also be held accountable should he not "manage the game" and makes a habit of committing costly turnovers. So by allowing Kyle to start the season while the OL works out the kinks and gels may actually be more beneficial for Rex with a potential better OL to work with should he have another chance later in the season. So this is not necessary a great opportunity fore Kyle either unless he is able to seize it under almost over whelming odds against him. The situation the Bears have on "O" is exactly what happens when a team ignores glaring needs over the past several years and does litttle to fix the problems. The recipe for success is quite simple in baseball is Pitching and Defense along with timely hitting can win championships and can Equalize a more talented offense. In football you have to control the line of scrimage, play great defense and make fewer mistakes than your opponent but you also have to excute on "O" which sometimes is just getting firtst downs, keeping the chains moving while mataining enough imagination from a playcalling standpoint to keep the "D" honest while coming up with a few big plays now and then. I will also support Kyle who also has some good qualites and hopefully he continues to prove Lovie made the right call regardless how those on the outside see it.

I am just excited to have some life in the backfield this year; all these guys (Forte, Jones & Wolfe) have something to prove and they are not afraid of hard work either! I never liked ced's lack-luster style.
