That's awesome! And I give Stein tons of credit for the Bears having tons of cap space year after year. After the 2014 season, we extended Cutler, Marshall, signed Willie Young, Alan Houston, and Jared Allen to big contracts. We were able to spend freely and we're still 7 million under the cap.
That being said, with the rookie scale, what's the deal? Why does it take teams several months to sign their rookies? I believe with the #1 pick, there is an issue with a 5th option year. Kevin White accepted it, so in his 5th year, we can use it giving him the average of the top 25 WR's in the league. Otherwise, we'd have to franchise him and give him top 5 average salary.
In short, with the rookie scale, signing rookies ain't a big deal.
