  1. True, but where does safety rank? Does we need one more than we need WR, O-line and d-line?
  2. He probably wanted #80 originally but Brandon Lloyd had already laid claim to it.
  3. Agreed. At the least we'd have to give up this year's #19 and next year's #1. Is he THAT much of an upgrade over Jonathon Martin? I'm just skeptical about rookies. I remember Robert Gallery being a guaranteed "can't miss" prospect. Hell, if it hadn't been such a deep draft class, he'd have been taken #1. Not to mention I really believe Emery & Tice when they say J Webb can be good. More importantly, I think every team picking in the top 10 needs o-line help. Cleveland has Joe Thomas but they have nobody at RT and the rest of the line is awful. Playing Kalil at RT would fix one helluva a lot of their offensive woes. Buffalo is desperate for a LT and are often projected to take Riley Reiff. If Kalil was still there when they picked, they'll be dancing in the streets. I wouldn't trade him for two #1's.
  4. I'm nit-picking, but he doesn't actually say we're a good oline away from being a very good team. He meant that as a pun saying, "All we need is a good line." It's a reference to Angelo's botched phone call/trade with the Ravens. He does say think o-line is our #1 need and thinks we should draft Jonathan Martin. He also adds that ideally, with the first 3 picks the Bears will go WR, pass rusher, o-line. His preference is o-line. It is a goodarticle. I like how happy every seems to be with Emery so far and how there's a great deal of confidence in him. The team is one helluva a lot better than we were before free agency.
  5. While they represent an upgrade in o-line depth, they're not an overall upgrade. You say, "Take away the question marks on the LT spot and we wouldn't be talking much about Oline for this draft." That's like saying if you have Aaron Rogers, you're not talking about upgrading the QB spot. The fact is the position is questionable, Carimi is unproven, and nobody else is distinguishing themselves.
  6. I keep thinking, "What if Ryan Tannehill slips to #19? Will the Bears take him?" That sure as hell doesn't help the team. Tennehill will likely be long gone, but Aaron Rogers was considered a potential #1 pick and slipped to the 20's.
  7. Agreed about another FA signing. Hayes couldn't have been happy about signing for the minimum to compete for the grunt linebacker spot. He was desperate to sign before the draft. I'd be happy to see us ink Forte, but I'm not that worried about him.
  8. WHY????? Literally many of my happiest memories as a Bear fan have been since he joined the team. He's made the difference between winning and losing in multiple games. He's a likely future hall of famer and he's still in his prime. No way we trade him.

    Pick it

Let me preface this by saying the only position we targeted in free agency that we didn't address was DE. We were willing to to give Jeremy Mincey a big contract and he turned us down. Based on this, with the exception of someone dropping, I'm convinced we're going DE. Like you, I think we'll take Mercilus and I want us to take Mercilus. I just listened to Lawrence Holmes interview him on the SCORE at 7:00. Not only did he have 15 sacks, but he had 9 forced fumbles. That's Lovie material. Part of this is bias because I'm an Illini fan. Mercilus seems like a perfect fit.
  10. No. We're much better off letting the draft come to us. Most agree on here our #1 needs are d-line and o-line. Chances are there will be a damn good one available. If not, that means somebody like Floyd has fallen. Nobody will be too upset to add a big-time playmaker like him. In round #2, one of Kiper's mocks had Coby Fleener falling to us at #50. I doubt that will be happen, but weird things always happen on draft day. With all of our needs, we are best off sitting tight and taking the best player available who fits our needs.
  11. Agreed. Although we still of plenty of areas we need to fill. We are still very thin at safety, DT, DE, TE, WR, and the o-line. We also have questionable starters at TE and CB. But you can't have everything. More importantly, this team is one helluva a lot better than it was when free agency started. The only player of significance we lost IMO was Okoye. Graham was nice on special teams, but we replaced him with what we hope are better options. All this depth gives us more flexibility for the draft.
  12. Why do you have to be so negative Jason? I've heard from reliable sources that Max Komar is destined to be the next Mike Hass and will soon be making a major impact on game #1 . . . of the pre-season. It's going to be one helluva a battle in training camp. Who will be the white WR who probably sucks but might be able to play special teams. Sanzenbacher's got the definite edge, but I view Komar to be the dark-horse favorite.
  13. After Sam Hurd, for the time being we have to be mindful of our reputation. There was talk about Brandon Marshalls past, but I can't remember his issues being drug related. He just likes to beat women. (and vice versa) Most mocks have Adams graded to go in the 20's. He'd be a slight reach at #19. IF he's still available when we pick in round #2, it would be hard not to pass on him.
  14. I didn't realize you meant Rocky McIntosh. In 2007 we almost made a deal to Washington. We were trading Lance Briggs for Washington's #6 pick (Which became LaRon Landry). Supposedly we refused when the Washington would not include Rocky in the deal. He'd just finished his 2nd year at the time. I'm thinking we were including our #1 pick which eventually became Greg Olsen. Seeing what Washington gave up to move up to get RG3, I can't imagine we were just offering Briggs for the #6 AND Rocky.
  15. I still don't know who the hell Max Komar is. That doesn't make the roster any better or worse . . . Sanzenbacher has a good chance of getting cut depending on who we draft and Knox's status. I predicted he'd get cut last year, so what do I know? If Floyd is there at #19, teams have determined he's a drunk and we don't want him.
  16. Wait, you're NOT complaining? You ALWAYS complain when we add back-ups. Did somebody hack your account? I agree with those who are saying, "If he sucks, who cares? We'll cut him and we're out nothing."
  17. To me it comes down to if he's better than Herrera or Steinbech. Those are the two other guards we were looking at signing. We brought Herrera in very early, which tells me adding guard depth was a priority. Interestingly enough, we've done NOTHING to indicate we're going to upgrade the tackle position. This tells me either: 1) We're trying to hide our intentions before the draft, or 2) We actually mean what we say and we are happy with Carimi, Webb and/or Louis/C.Williams. My guess is #2.
  18. I thought Spencer was only making 3 this year? Hey, if Rachal can outperform Spencer, he's likely gone. Either way, it's good for competition.
  19. As for McNeil, I suspect that either: 1) He really is so injured he can't play, or 2) He still sees himself as a top tier offensive LT and wants 10 million per season.
  20. Agreed for two reasons: 1. It's a damn opinion. Sometimes the best evaluators are wrong and sometimes the worst evaluators are right. In the end, it doesn't mean a damn thing either way. I've never understood why people get pissed at someone like Dilfer for his football opinion. He was wrong about Cutler's injury. Now he's praising him. Either way, who gives a damn? 2. Most of us spend far too much time spouting our opinions. I concede to knowing far less than Dilfer about football.
  21. At the end of his post, Lemon mentions he's leary of 2nd round picks. Previously he mentioned Dawkins was creeping into the late first round. I don't think he meant we'd take Dawkins at #19. I'd be surprised if we took Barron at #19. It's funny you mention Dallas will take Barron. All the mocks have Dallas taking Barron, yet, supposedly they want Dontari Poe real bad. Or they want people to think they want Poe so they can draft Barron. I love draft time. That being said, I know I was pissed when we took Conte in the 3rd round. He was mostly invisible on the field, which ain't bad if you're a defensive back. I can't think of a single play where we cursed Angelo for drafting him. Safety is one position where we seem happy with our two starters. We need depth. You don't draft for depth in the first 3 rounds. You do that later. I don't see us taking Dawkins.
  22. Agreed. But now that you mention, they could have literally mentioned EVERY position with the exception of RB, QB, and kicking. On offense, along with the o-line, we need upgrades at WR & TE. On defense, we need every position.
  23. I saw that on ESPN. I do wish we'd do just a little bit more to help JC out this season.

    Decent read

With Floyd it's going to come down to how teams judge his character. Teams may look at the 3 DUI's (or whatever it was) and say "hell no." He drop well past the Bears. If it's not an issue, Jacksonville may take him as high as #7.

    Decent read

I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't go o-line. I could easily see us signing a guy like Eric Steinbeck, kicking Chris Williams out to compete witih Carimi & Webb, then spending the rest of the off-season talking about how happy we are with our offensive line and how they'll improve with Tice as OC.
