Of course you can't discuss this topic without bringing up the Ditka era. There was never a coach with the Bears who held this with more reverence. Some of the truly ugly events of the rivalry occurred during this time (Charles Martin, Mark Lee, Ken Stills) but some of the funniest also occurred. Using the Fridge in the backfield, embarrassing the Packers, and then using him again to catch a pass... It will live on forever. The hatred between Forrest Gregg and Mike Ditka was real. Lovie is the first coach we've had in a while who understands this rivalry and he's actually got a solid record against the Packers. Say what you want about Lovie's "fire" but he's been on the right side of this issue from day one.

I agree with this. But they'll need to find someone. AP is a good #3 and Wolfe isn't ever going to be considered a starter in the NFL. So... Watch the wire.

Was he really that bad dude? I missed most of the game so I'm really just asking. He's been with the team for a few days so maybe it's just a learning thing. Although, if he was missing tackles that shouldn't happen.

I'd keep AP over Wolfe... But that's just me.

So if you're out there, Favre gets a pass and you don't even flag him. The refs were wrong to flag him because Favre also got hit and according to what you saw on the play, it was above the knee? I'm just trying to understand your point completely. So, it's actually the guy's fault, not Favre? How dare he run a tad slowly for your liking? I guess there ought to be a section in the rulebook specially designed for Favre that says, essentially, he can do whatever he likes, even if it injures someone else? He is, after all, godlike. Hence why there are rules and why Favre was flagged for his illegal block.

I don't understand why he'd announce he had a cracked rib in the first place. That's dumb. Either it's bullshit or his ego is so huge he had to get it out there that he was playing with pain. Couldn't stand not getting even more attention than he was already getting. When I watch the guy play I hope he gets killed with every snap. I can't stand how the announcers say his f'ing name every five seconds and they always call him "brettfavre" like it's one word. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me. So, I hope someone breaks his other 23 ribs and send him home to Mississippi on a stretcher for good.

And they lied to him, if you believe his side of the story. And now the owner is, according to what I heard, recanting the part about him not returning phone calls. So, they lied about that too. I can't blame the guy. He's the QB, not some third string safety. He's supposed to be the face of your franchise and the leader on offense. He's proven his abilities. To have them subvert him rather than support him and then try to backpedal after things went south with Cassel... They didn't earn the right to the benefit of the doubt, IMO.

Yeah, I don't think we disagree very much. I strongly prefer an aggressive D and Rivera was my guy. I understand what the "Lovie 2" tries to accomplish and I respect it. But I'd say mixing it up, changing things between games and at halftime, can always add to the mix. Confusion is the #1 tool of the defensive unit in football.

Yeah, it works. Lovie got his job based on it working. So did Dungy and any number of others who employ that Tampa 2 system. Not many QB's can consistently hit that 5 yard out and march down the field on you. And even if they can, you make adjustments then. Like it or not, it's effective. You can mix it up a bit better, I agree with you there. Rivera did so when he was here and we went to the Superbowl with one of the best D's in the league that season. Playing bump all the time leads to an equal number of problems. For one, it isn't easy to actually bump a good WR consistently off the line. When you whiff, your ass is exposed for everyone to kick. Hey, our starting D hasn't really given up much in the last two weeks. Must work.

I'm not giving up yet for only one reason: Lots of WR's don't "get it" until their 3rd or 4th year. And this isn't even his natural position. So while I'm convinced he's a pretty dumb guy, I'm not convinced that means he'll never get there. I still have some hope that he can. Slim...

It's definitely scheme. And it works. Even with average corners, it works if you get pressure on the QB. Since we aren't getting that pressure, I'd like to see them mix it a little better and use some jams at the line. We also have young safeties. Which is a problem now. But it certainly wasn't an issue when Brown was in there.
