  1. Being Barry Goldwater's granddaughter and living in Arizona, one would assume that I would be voting for our state's senator, John McCain. I am still struck by certain 'dyed in the wool' Republicans who are on the fence this election, as it seems like a no-brainer to me. Myself, along with my siblings and a few cousins, will not be supporting the Republican presidential candidates this year. We believe strongly in what our grandfather stood for: honesty, integrity, and personal freedom, free from political maneuvering and fear tactics. I learned a lot about my grandfather while producing the documentary, Mr. Conservative Goldwater on Goldwater. Our generation of Goldwaters expects government to provide for constitutional protections. We reject the constant intrusion into our personal lives, along with other crucial policy issues of the McCain/Palin ticket. My grandfather (Paka) would never suggest denying a woman's right to choose. My grandmother co-founded Planned Parenthood in Arizona in the 1930's, a cause my grandfather supported. I'm not sure about how he would feel about marriage rights based on same-sex orientation. I think he would feel that love and respect for ones privacy is what matters most and not the intolerance and poor judgment displayed by McCain over the years. Paka respected our civil liberties and passed on the message that that we should conduct our lives standing up for the basic freedoms we hold so dear. For a while, there were several candidates who aligned themselves with the Goldwater version of Conservative thought. My grandfather had undying respect for the U.S. Constitution, and an understanding of its true meanings. There always have been a glimmer of hope that someday, someone would "race through the gate" full steam in Goldwater style. Unfortunately, this hasn't happened, and the Republican brand has been tarnished in a shameless effort to gain votes and appeal to the lowest emotion, fear. Nothing about McCain, except for maybe a uniform, compares to the same ideology of what Goldwater stood for as a politician. The McCain/Palin plan is to appear diverse and inclusive, using women and minorities to push an agenda that makes us all financially vulnerable, fearful, and less safe. When you see the candidate's in political ads, you can't help but be reminded of the 1964 presidential campaign of Johnson/Goldwater, the 'origin of spin', that twists the truth and obscures what really matters. Nothing about the Republican ticket offers the hope America needs to regain it's standing in the world, that's why we're going to support Barack Obama. I think that Obama has shown his ability and integrity. After the last eight years, there's a lot of clean up do. Roll up your sleeves, Senators Obama and Biden, and we Goldwaters will roll ours up with you.
  2. All say... Well, see for yourself! http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/cc65ed650d
  3. I agree in many ways with your humorous comments. I wish Libertarians were more viable. Unfortunately, when you've got no money to get your message out, the "two party system" dynamic is impossible to break down. You'd almost need a rich guy like Perot (only one that isn't nuts this time) to run with his own money and establish a legit image for the party.
  4. Per the AP story this morning: WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency. The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. "This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush." SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message. "If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it." Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment. The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaida plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE. SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election. SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis _ and apparent jubilation _ about American financial woes. "What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community," Raisman said. "And it's about the financial crisis." Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people.
  5. http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/johnmcc...osaurs.-Uta.htm And these are actually funny.
  6. This is huge. To have a GOP paper like the Chicago Tribune endorse a Democrat for the first time in history this week was big. But I think many could discount it because he's the home town guy. To have a Texas newspaper and Colin Powell, probably the most respected voice in the Republican Party, endorse Obama is incredible. Here is a link to the Houston Chronicle endorsement. Colin Powell will be on Meet the Press later today. The show is already taped and you can view the details, including video of his endorsement here.
  7. Wow! See the entire story and logic behind the endorsement here.
  8. Oh my god! I missed this part when I first read your drivel. You really are that dumb! Here's the deal, the $250,000 is taxable income. Not gross. So first of all, you have deductions for a whole slew of things like depreciation, rent, employee wages, etc. So, a business could be bringing in $400,000 or maybe a lot more before they reached that level. Second, NO BUSINESS anywhere is going to shut down for the year in say, October, as you suggest, so they don't go over the magic number. That's the stupidest friggen thing I've ever heard! They'll pay a slightly higher tax rate on the incremental difference above $250,000 than they currently would. So, they're still keeping most of that extra money for themselves! Get it? No, you probably don't. Lastly, I'm a pay as you go kinda guy. I understand there are times when the government needs to spend more than it takes in but generally I think we should make ends meet. So while I'm all for cutting everyone's taxes, if we have governmental priorities that require spending, we need to collect tax revenues to pay for those expenses. I know, you'll now say that Dems love to spend money... It's the line I've been listening to for decades. But we have ample evidence from the last 8 years, with Repug control of Congress for 6 of those and a Repug President who certainly could've vetoed every dime of excess he wanted to for ALL EIGHT YEARS... Repugs love to spend money too. So, I say, fine, if you want to spend it, collect it. And the place to get it during a recession isn't from the middle class. Get it from the top 5% who've made an absolute KILLING under Bush. They owe it to America to pay their fair share. It isn't right for them to just keep taking and taking from this country and giving nothing back. It's unpatriotic. Why do rich Repugs hate America?
  9. Of course it was... LOL! Just because McCain brought his name up 50 times during the debate... BWAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! Here's a little more detail on Joe the Douchebag... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aejhxaNzMKM He admits HIS TAXES WILL GO DOWN UNDER OBAMA!!! And as Obama himself said, this isn't about punishing anyone, it's about the fact that someone in this country needs to pay taxes. Nobody likes them. But Obama's plans will raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year back to what those folks were paying under... wait for it... RONALD REAGAN! Oh my, how terrible is THAT!?!?!?
  10. LOL! DUMBEST CAMPAIGN STUNT EVER!
  11. Ah, but then that would've been "On topic" and posted above.
  12. You don't fake these photos. Unlike the Clinton's whom I'm not sure ever had an authentic moment in their lives.
  13. You really secretly want to date me, don't you? Sorry man, I like girls only.
  14. Not much to really say other than I've worked for the same company now for close to 20 years. I started out as an accountant, was promoted up through the ranks to controller but then because nobody really understood IT, I was also the de facto IT guy for this region of the company. That ultimately became my "real job" (about 8 years or so ago) and now I manage propeller-heads.
  15. Believe it or not, I'm actually with you on this but think it needs more detail. If you look at my tax burden last year, and I'm going to speak in round numbers so I don't give away too many details about myself, here is about what I paid in taxes last year: As I recall from my tax return, I paid 19% in Fed income taxes Illinois income tax, 3% RE Tax - 4% Approx. Sales Taxes - 5% of my gross income (total guess here) SS Taxes and Medicare - Approx 8% although probably a little less because... Anyway, if you add it all up, I pay about 37% of my income in taxes. For this I don't get medical coverage (my employer pays for that outside of my portion) but I do have a good school district for my son. My millionaire bosses pay substantially less than 37% (I work in real estate and much of that income is sheltered). So, for a flat tax to work I'd say we all ought to pay somewhere in the middle between what they currently pay and where I am. For this I expect EVERYONE to have a good school to send their kids to and everyone to get reasonable, comprehensive health care coverage. Fair's fair. So, flatten it baby! I get a cut and everyone gets better schools and health insurance. DEAL!
  16. I wish there were a few facts in your "facts".
  17. Don't believe me, look at the polls of undecided voters! Tonight CBS, CNN and others basically gave this one to Obama by a 2 to 1 margin. About a third in each case said tie with about 50 something to 60 percent saying Obama. McCain gets about 30 percent. The knockout blow for Obama was when HE brought up the Ayers issue and used it to show how feeble it is as a make believe talking point for Repugs. He forced McCain to say he didn't care about some "has-been terrorist". OK, I guess Johnny can pull something like 100% of his ads running at this point since he just admitted it was a bunch of bullshit. Game over. Unless McCain and Bush find a way to orchestrate something that causes a panic, this is going to Obama on election day. PS. On the post-debate polls, this one puts it over the top for me. Wow! From Fox New's "Focus Group" Frank Luntz: Early in the debate these people thought McCain was doing better, by the end of the debate Obama seemed to finish better. Brit. Brit Hume: Question -- you said that none of the people came in there for Obama, may I take it that that's because they were undecided or because they were for McCain? Luntz: No, they were undecided, we got 23 undecided voters. Brit, I chewed them out to make sure they were undecided. Did anyone switch your position tonight? We have one person... four people. Who did you go to? Undecided voter #1: I lean more toward Obama. Undecided voter #2: Obama. Undecided voter #3: Obama. Undecided voter #4: Obama. Luntz: This is a good night for Barack Obama. LOL! Faux NEWS!!!!
  18. No, you're pulling this stuff outta your ass. I could tell you I'm a CPA, don't work in accounting anymore because I do something more interesting and make a lot more doing so... And you'd call me a liar. See? I know your game. PS. The old man got PWNED tonight. Barack kicked his ass! LOL! Game changer alright...
  19. All week I've been providing facts and evidence backing up my opinion that we need new leadership in this country. Here's another. I'm sure I'll get called jobless or something in relation to this as well. Again, toothless Repug's opinions aside, the facts are the facts... Infant Mortality - US Ranks 29th Source: WebMD Gang, we have to do better than this! We've been sold a bill of goods that our health care system is the "Best in the World!" by Republicans and the corporations that pull their puppet strings. How can we abide this? How on earth can we accept this as a society? Maybe, just maybe, we ought to take the profit motive out of health care? Look at the list and tell me why all the countries with "socialized medicine" are so far ahead of us! TIED WITH POLAND! Are you FRIGGEN KIDDIN' ME!?!?!?! THE LIST FROM WebMD: 1. Singapore 2.0 2. 20. Damn man, I hope this doesn't get any worse. Another 700 points down today? When the hell does it end? The market isn't getting any warm fuzzy feeling from this dingbat President. If he can't f*cking LEAD he should step down now and let someone else do it. Of course, we have to insist that Cheney leave with him or we'll be in 7 wars before January. A recap of what 8 years of Republican Leadership gives us: * Multiple wars with no end in sight * An economic depression (or deep deep recession at best) * Your phone and email is all under surveillance * 2 new Pro-Life Supremes * A $10 trillion deficit * No credibility left on foreign policy... NONE! * A stronger Iran * A much stronger Russia * Gasoline prices through the roof * Unemployment rate climbing and climbing fast * 40 million citizens with no health insurance and no plan to assist them * Crime rate climbing (after decreasing every year under Clinton) And I'm sure I'm missing a few gems! By all F*CKING MEANS... LET'S GET US SOME MORE OF THIS!!! Double down with Johnny McCain!!!
  21. http://palinaspresident.com/ George W. Bush in lipstick. Scary stuff. I didn't think anyone could be dumber than dub-yah.
  22. You can find the calculator here: http://taxcut.barackobama.com/ For 95% of Americans, their taxes will go down under Obama; if you make over $250,000, you'll pay more. Don't believe Obama? Well, as Parade Magazine points out, if you're really, really, really, rich, John McCain will save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes. If you're really really rich, vote McCain! If not, you'll lose money going with Johnny Square-Jaw.
