Something about this seems off. I know Adam presented this or something similar not all that long ago and it included information to support ‘all QBs picked 1st overall in the last 30 years were 70% successful (to include at least one 4,000 yard season, one PB appearance AND at least one playoff win)’. Thats not a direct quote but close. So I’m curious where the ‘80% success rate’ figures in. And was there data that supported this somewhere?

I’ve been a fan of Foreman since about mid-season. I agree there were some odd off times. I want to think ESB is a victim of Getsy. He was brought to Chicago probably because of Getsy but not used as much as he could or should have been. I say this only because early in the season Fields made a comment about ESB being a healthy scratch for one game and led many to believe he would’ve preferred he play over Claypool who was still with the team at the time. I’d keep M. lewis around just because of the positive veteran presence we heard about him. If you can get over the GB stink still on him he really did well in his role as a blocking (and occasional catching) TE. I wonder if Waldron sees Mooney as a Lockett-type receiver? That could determine whether he stays? Obviously at the end of the day all the offensive players will be determined how they fit into Waldron’s scheme (to include Justin/overall pick #1). Perhaps we’ll see some current Seattle players join us?

Add Bills’ Eric Washington (current dline and asst HC) to the list.

The "evidence" I presented was historical data to support others have done it before. No where did I conjoin the two thoughts of Vermiel and Campbell's success to mean that Flus would in turn succeed. From what we can gather, some combination of Warren and Poles thought along the same line because they chose to keep him. Warren had been quoted as saying he was in Saint Louis when Vermeil was making his second run at turning a team around (in three years). He witnessed the struggles the team went through before they rose to the top. Theoretically speaking, he (not me) may very well think that it could be repeated in Chicago. It doesn't necessarily mean that Flus will be the key to the overall success, just that keeping him in place would be better than replacing him. Now you want to talk anecdotal evidence? I've lived in Alaska for over 40 years now. I'm pretty sure it'll snow again next winter because it did most of the last 40+ years.

Keeping in mind that a few weeks ago, Poles said the Bears were "open for business" in regards to trading the #1 pick, I'd be curious to see what type of offer Minnesota would be willing to make. If I had to guess, this more than anything is what kept Warren from being interested in working with him. Not only has he had the experience as the Big 10 Commissioner but I'm sure he 'knows people' still in the business there that he talks to. And bottom line, Warren (and Poles) seem like they're trying to avoid anymore distracting (aka big) personalities while they continue the rebuild with a relatively young team.

Well to be fair, name the last QB to have been what you considered "successful" in Chicago? Although I bashed him a lot late in his career, Cutler was pretty damn good. Considering what he had to work with. And I added Chase because although he wasn't a multiple playoff winner like Dak Prescott, er I mean, Kirk Cousins....Chase has played a lot as an NFL QB (was a two-time Heisman candidate) and has a pretty good idea what to look for in that regard. AND played under the relentless scrutiny that is Chicago Bears fandom. So yeah...they have some respect in that regard.

Yeah this sounds a lot like what we was saying a few weeks ago and (surprise) I agree with him. I cited some time back that both he and Chase Daniel threw their support behind Fields. Which I think has some extra weight not only that they both used to play QB in the NFL but for Chicago too. Seems they'd have some idea on what its like. Throw in Moore's comment towards the end of the season that HE thought Fields was better than the top two picks in the draft and you can't help but listen. At the end of the day, I am in no way guaranteeing that Justin will win us a SB. Just that he (or any prospective QB really) could do better if given a better chance with more options and better protection.

And you speak in absolutes quite a bit. Unless you're in the room with Poles etc, you don't really have a clue what will happen. You and I can both speculate to our heart's content about what may happen until it does happen. Some sports columnists call it a 'hot take' and boy are there plenty of them. At no time did I say or indicate that I thought Flus is or will be great. The examples I gave were of two other coaches that were in very similar situations as Flus is in currently. As it stands today, arguments can be made of how great a coach Vermeil was but his record speaks for itself. He was able to turn around three different teams in three different eras with a myriad of QBs from varying backgrounds (while in Philly he had Ron Jaworski - himself a 2nd round pick, in STL he had Tony Banks to start with - who was another 2nd rounder until Kurt Warner came around - who was undrafted and bounced around a bit before landing in STL, then with KC he had Trent Green who was an 8th round draft pick). In the case of Campbell the jury is still out of how great a coach he will be but what is helping him succeed is the revitalization of Goff, himself a previously #1 overall pick. An example of your absolutism. For now all this is your opinion. There were fans in the last game that chanted "we want Fields", people on many social media platforms are still divided about 50/50 whether we should keep Fields and many former players have suggested the Bears keep Fields. If the Bears keep Fields AND he fails miserably, yes many will be mad. Just like if they draft Williams #1 overall and he fails... But for now, its still pretty clearly divided on which direction we as fans want the team to go. What will management do, we won't know until closer to April 25th.

Well said. I read not all that long ago (Nov-Dec timeframe) that Breer was also quoted as saying he thought that Flus wouldn't be retained. So his credibility does indeed come into question.

Valid question. Especially given teams that were just in the playoffs; Dallas, Philly and now the Bills, were or have started questioning their HC options going into the new season. I agree that getting the Bears to 7-10 this year was a marked improvement, especially if you consider how they started versus how they ended the season (winning 4 of the last 6 games).

I think he meant players: Walker, Blasingame and Nate Davis were all last with the Titans before the Bears. And Trevis Gipson did go to Tennesse last year.

Makes the alleged ‘west coast’ tour that more intriguing. Speculation was that they were hot to get to talk with Kingsbury (which they may have) but I suspect also to work the background on Williams a little. And since we’re already on the West coast, why not offer a deal to Waldron and do a check on a few other draft candidates? (Nix and Penix)? Kingsbury is still in the running for Raiders OC who also have a need at QB and hold the #13 spot overall.
