Good share. I was curious at the time of Stein’s tactics may have played into the stalemate with Johnson and his re-signing. Will be interesting to see if he gets signed soon… Did a quick read on Warren not all that long ago as I was curious about his legal background. Turns out both he and Stein had similar educational backgrounds. Both achieved their Bachelor’s in Business Admin before getting their law degree. Warren went one more step between the two and got his MBA before getting his JD. So maybe more acumen for business management than Stein? ??♂️ Anyhow, after joining the Bar, Warren’s first gig was with a firm that focused on “sports law” specifically representing Universities that had been charged with sanctions and violations. After a year or so with them he formed his own sports rep agency where his first client was Chris Zorich. Some time later (after working with Dick Vermiel in St Louis) he represented the Zilf (?) family when they purchased the Vikings. Then was put into a similar role with the Vikings when they sought to build their own stadium. All this to say, Warren has ‘been there done that’ with regards to the position he currently finds himself in. And I trust he knows what he’s doing, not only with getting the Bears a new stadium (if that’s one of his missions) but also to manage the overall team to assure they are all on the same page.

So take the #1 pick and draft him to hope “he could be good” with little evidence he will. And while doing so have less stock in other potential multiple draft picks (to include maybe even another future first)? Having a trove of picks answers your second question. You have multiple ‘talented’ players on rookie contracts instead of one. I think we’d agree Poles does well at analyzing talent and getting more band for his buck with draft picks so far. You’re sure that no team will be so desperate to get Williams they wouldn’t sell the farm to include a potential future first to get him?

And you have to ask is he a product of the system or??? His backup threw six TDs in their last bowl game.

A few days ago Colin Cowherd said ‘he was told by reliable sources’ that if Antonio Pierce is kept as HC in Vegas, Kingsbury will be “tapped as OC”. Today he seems to think otherwise… guess we’ll see.

The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!

I suppose if we all signed off on the same belief this place would be rather boring n'est pas? ? -

Was just going to say that. The alternative to vocalizing your support for the QB is saying nothing at all. DJ Moore was asked repeatedly about what he thought about Fields being the QB next year. Every time he was in support of Justin. He was even quoted as saying the two top draft candidates in the QB position aren't as good as Fields. And he followed that up to say it was the 'guys upstairs' who eventually will make those decisions. -

This I would agree with. And part of that may involve keeping what they know in Justin versus an unknown in how the (potential) #1 overall pick may perform. To answer your question about player sentiment; why else do you think they do exit interviews for everyone? -

How do you suppose they decided to keep Flus on as HC? Solely on his improvement of the Defense or??? -

I'm assuming you mean Williams? If so, his backup scored 6TDs in his sole start. That being the bowl game that Williams chose to sit out. Could it be Moss continue that trend and be the 'next best thing' coming? ?♂️ -

With the current alleged support for Fields in the locker room and they bring in a guy who is this way, could be a problem. -
Like he did against Atlanta? ??♂️

I want to believe Cunningham would pass on going to the Chargers if that meant Harbaugh was hired, esp if he had no say. That is unless Ian is so sure that Harbaugh will succeed and he’d help his own cause by getting a few really good years on his resume. But stories in NFL circles suggest Harbaugh wears on players after about 3-4 years. Something about him running things too much like college. Then Ian would have his biggest challenge and have to fire the guy.

Would you agree that it’s possible Justin could improve if he had a better OC that caters more to his skill set? Theres no doubt Getsy could not and Flus will not. Many here have said they think he’d do better on a different team. Why would that be?
-
I’m genuinely curious how you can say that? What makes you sure that his skills will transfer better to the NFL than Justin’s have? Is it winning the Heisman? Is it how he performed against PAC12 competition vs top-25 competition? And lastly, is it possible he’s a result of a well designed system? The same one that yielded his backup 6 TDs in the bowl game a few weeks ago.

Interesting. Is the CJ Stroud effect an anomaly or the new norm?

The first point was to show you that 'yes' QBs occasionally have bad games. And more specifically you asked what I thought Mahomes would do in that same situation. The video clip I shared was nearly identical, and what's more was from this year's version of Patrick, not the one from 3-4 years ago. The illustration you shared about Justin was from earlier this season. You yourself said he 'improved' in that Atlanta game, which was the second to last of the season. I suppose the loss the GB the following week was all because Justin can't play the position or??? For all the "pundits" you say who he can't play the position, I can show just as many say he can and the team should build around him. Former players who have played the position and in Chicago to boot, Jay Cutler and Chase Daniel among them. I'm more inclined to stick with Fields because it's the 'bird in the hand' philosophy. I know what Justin can do for us and despite your insistence otherwise, I'm sure he can do more for us. I'm not convinced that Williams, Maye or any of the upcoming "generational" QBs coming out for the draft can. And if they do decide to draft a "can't miss" in one of those guys (presumably in the #1 position) how long do they have to prove they are 'it'? In my mind they'd have to literally be able to plug in play by next season to continue the upward growth of the team overall. You've said this before, as have many others, but ultimately this discussion we're having now won't matter at the end of the day. When April 25th is in the books, we'll have a better idea who our QB will be for next year. And I'm sure Poles won't be asking either of us our opinion to make that decision.

Good question. Found the below link from guy who does random QB video analysis. The video was posted about a month ago when KC (and Mahomes) was in a slump where they went about 2-3 games without Mahomes being able to connect with his receivers. Either because he's missing the read or the recievers were dropping passes. The short of this video is about how Mahomes missed his primary read (Kelce) and ended up scrambling because as the commenter stated "he had a clean pocket and ran for no reason". At any rate, I'm curious to see once you get around to 'analyzing the upcoming QB draftees' you convince me how any of them are going to be better than Fields. And if they aren't this year, how long do we wait until they are?

The Bears not beating the Pack two weeks ago then Dallas losing even worse…while at home. C’mon SF! If only they had Robbie Gould still on the team it would be a guaranteed win. (I guess this would’ve qualified as the Dallas loss above).
-
The point is more about how would Mahomes hold up to withering pass rushes as Justin has done? Look no further than in Super Bowl 55 (2020) when Patrick was without most of his starting oline and how pedestrian he looked. He was rushed on newrly half of his dropbacks and threw 270 yards to 2 INTs in a 31-9 loss. And for a while this year, Mahomes had been struggling with a sub-par WR corps. Thankfully for him he has Andy Reid calling plays. And we will probably disagree on who’s at fault for the play calling/execution so far this last year (for Chicago). Not having Getsy next season will remove that “excuse”.
-
And again you avoid the question. Mongo at least sorta answered it by saying he doesn’t think Jackson will win a SB because of his running ability. I asked you whether either of these guys would be able to succeed in the same system Justin has been in. You continue to answer that ‘they both have pocket’ presence and ‘Justin can’t read offenses’. Do think Justin would be a different QB if he was in the exact same system as Mahomes?
-
How is Kindle Vildor a starting CB for a playoff team? ??♂️
-
Lemme ask. You think he could (or would) thrive in another system elsewhere? Maybe where the OC or HC designs plays more to his skills? Whether it bet WCO, outside zone with moving pockets or RPO where he runs more than passes. You don’t yhkrn he could become a QB more like Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes?
-
Not saying he doesn’t necessarily hold the ball too long. But tell me why is that? Because the receivers aren’t open or because he’s scrambling around trying to find an open receiver. Take tonight before example. Some would argue Prescott isn’t the worst QB in the NFL but there was a lot of time where he was caught scrambling around looking for an open receiver because everyone was covered. It is what it is . Tell me how long did Dak hold the ball tonight? This post brought to you courtesy of Makers Mark. ?
