  1. "HC's in the NFL today that were in this picture or came soon after" - But thank you for the reminder and for adding Fisher of whom I did forget. This particular thread is a good one because of the historic rememberance associated.
  2. Well the Bears do have a nice long history of LB's that like to hit, I think Bostic will fit in nicely. SORRY, FORGOT I'M NOT PLAYING ANYMORE.
  3. Speaking of Leslie Frazier, the one thing that I always like to bring up to people to add to the "brag factor" for the Bears is all the current and recent HC's in the NFL today that were in this picture or came soon after. Frazier, Singletary, Rivera and Harbaugh to name a few.
  4. Wait a minute....where is Terra Tor right now?
  5. I can't say that I would know most of those guys from anyone else. You are truly a battle scarred fan. I should have known though when a guy has a classic of a picture of "Papa Bear" on the bottom of his postings. A tip of the hat to you sir.
  6. And more likely than not Webb will be competing for playing time at RT, probably not the Left. I do agree with your premise, to a degree. Jason and I have gone back and forth over this in similar fashion. The discussion then was about how Webb (a 7th rounder) had more playing time at starting LT than did two 1st round picks in Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi. Of course ours was a discussion more on the legitimacy of drafting an OLman in the 1st round vs a skill player. Nevertheless, I have to say I actually don't have an issue with the team picking Long this year. Not sure if it is due to senility startign to settle in or just that the team has done a good job in bringing FA talent. Of course all of this has yet to bear fruit due to the season not having started yet.
  7. Odd, MadLith and are of kindred age. I too am 43 (if I recall correctly). Seeing Lemonej post about his being able to watch Sayers and Butkus reminds me of a time my Grandfather asked us if we wanted to go watch the Bulls play. I was pretty young at the time. Anyhow, he said they have this new kid "Gordon or Jordan or something rather that is supposed to be pretty good.". Man was he wrong. LOL Anyhow a few photos that take me back to the 'good ol' days'. If I'm not mistaken, and without the help of Google I might add, I believe I can name all the players in this pic (on the right). Starting from the top left and working clockwise: FS Gary Fencik, DT/RB William "Refrigerator" Perry, DE Richard "Sackman" Dent, LB Otis Wilson, Backup QB Steve Fuller, LB "Samurai" Mike Singletary, QB Jim McMahon, SWEETNESS (need not say more), WR Willie Gault and CB Reggie Phillips (I think).
  8. Whoops, not sure how but I double posted, or something..
  9. Holy heck! You're not old enough to remember the 85 season? Wow I feel so much older now. Based on what Ive seen you post here, you would have liked him as a player. He's very similar to Cutler. Although Cutler hasn't mooned a news helicopter yet. I was starting to get annoyed by all the Honey Bear pictures. Instead I'm sorta glad there is someone here who actually remembers who they were.
  10. In SCS' defense I'm not so sure that assumption is correct. He just recently used the words "I've never thought of it that way" while replying to a post in a few different occasions. So to suggest he's completely closed minded would be false. As far as the front office agreeing or disagreeing with anyone here, i don't know that anyone else here can necessarily guarantee that either.
  11. Didn't Urlacher say something like that and get flamed for it? But I do agree, I appreciate his (Cutler's) type of personality. I'm more concerned with how he performs on the field, not off. As long as the latter doesn't effect the former I'm good with it.
  12. And both Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi were 1st round grades....
  13. Without making this into a discussion on religion, it would not be fair to nessarily judge what one person does because he or she is linked to religion as "too much". Assumptions play a lot into what you printed above. If it were a problem then the NFL would and should ask him to stop or expect him to pay a fine. Just because you may not like it doesn't mean its wrong. Excessive? Perhaps but again, not for me to say. Chad Johnson/Ochocinco probably could better say what is excessive than most. What's to say that Tebow doesn't want to improve? Heck what's to say he wouldn't accept a job as a TE or FB with the occasional duty as a QB, especially in emergency roles? Could the team not essentially save two roster spots in a deal like that? And just as a reminder, the team DID find a backup from "off the street" in the form of McCown. Heck they even signed a former #1 draft pick last year and we see how that worked out.
  14. Chicago and its fans are different. New York, specifically the Jets, are the "circus" that others keep referring to. The media, as others have pointed out, perpetuates it. Cutler was booed how many times last year? How about the year before? It's part of it. What happens if the part I bolded doesn't play out like we hope? IF Cutler is given everything, as you suggest, and fails to deliver? Don't be so sure it will happen. What then? Of if he suffers another concussion? Who do you want leading the team in the interim? Does McCown instill that much faith in you? How about Blanchard?
  15. Sorry Cracker but there are a few of us out there that still believe in the "bullshit" you refer to as something of substance. Please don't trod on it because its convenient. I'll agree that sometimes it seems a little in excess but who am I to judge on someone's faith and their choice in 'giving thanks'?
  16. Tebow is only 25. You're not talking about Brett Favre or Joe Montana here. Heck Cleveland's SECOND YEAR QB Weeden is 29. I ask again, where has Tebow really had the opportunity to be given the tutelage he might actually fourish from? Sure he worked with Trestman for all of half a day....how long ago was that again? Would he have (or maybe still) been considered "raw talent" with plenty of upside? Again, I'm not suggesting someone to supplant Cutler, just step in if needed. If he comes off waivers and is available at a low cost, why not?
  17. But Brian what I'm talking about is in relation to a BACKUP role with a chance to learn. Allegedly from some "QB guru". Where has he had that chance? You are comparing what Denver needed in a starting QB to what I'm suggesting as a backup role. And who did they choose as their backup again? Getting Manning was a gamble. What if got injured right off the bat? What if he couldnt throw the ball with accuracy after being hit? You paid $100 million for a guy that could potentially be an advisor. THAT was the 'risk' I'm referring to.
  18. You call these "supporting arguments" for your claim? In Denver, John Elway took a chance...and it paid off....with Manning. How is that an indictment on Tebow? Manning was done in Indy (incidently, they gambled too with Luck..and for now it looks like a decent wager). So someone had to take the "chance". He wasn't going to sit around and do nothing all year. And anything substantive case you TRY to make about the Jets and that they know what they are doing, especially while Rex Ryan is head coach, is just plain silly.
  19. No Here's something "pretty". Happy Mother's Day.
  20. Thanks for the positive reponse. Kinda creepy, you and I agreeing. So I'll say this, what you suggest here is more "gimmicky" and a good reason NOT to bring in Tebow if to no other. I would truly like to see him as a #2 or 3 and learn from both Cutler and Trestman (accuracy, timing, defense reads and all the things you mentioned earlier). Again, and as you pointed out, he wont be costly and if for nothing else younger than McCown.
  21. Just in time for this to be "shut down" but I think any ideas shouldn't necessarily be ignored. So this "circus" everyone keeps talking about? Who is it that fostered that? Tebow or the fans? In NY it was the Jets that were and still are the "circus". Until Rex Ryan leaves there, that is the way it'll be. The dude chose to keep Mark Sanchez as his starter and he (Sanchez) is as frustrating as they come. No wonder the fans were chanting for Tebow on a regular basis. In Denver, he played backup to Orton. Obviously a disparity in playing styles. McDaniels did select Tebow and eventually was let go more on his inability to actually coach a team, not because he chose Tebow. John Fox wasn't a fan of Tebow's....but how good is he at judging QB talent? Didn't he bring Caleb Hanie in as a backup at one point? He (Fox) has a manager that does know something in QB's in John Elway...hence the addition of Manning. Elway wasn't a fan of Tebow's either. So after Peyton made his way to Denver off went Tebow to the Ringling Bros of the NFL. Now before I get flamed I am in no way making a case for Tebow to be the starter in Chicago. Just a backup....why not #2 or even 3? I mean, allegedly Trestman is this "QB guru" so why not consider it? A few thoughts to consider before I close out. Tebow was voted #95 (of the top 100 NFL players) in 2012. A list voted on players in the NFL http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d828b...-top-100-player And this: http://www.stableytimes.com/news/the-case-...nchez-for-jets/
  22. Wow, after watching a few of these vids and a couple others....this guy is fast!! Dosent remind me of Briggs as much as a young Urlacher. And he likes to hit. I think Emery may have done a good job. In fact I'll go out on a limb that he may be better than Teo and Brown. Looking forward to what the season has in store.
  23. Since I'm not 'sold' quite yet on Emery I will give him this, his two 1st rounders (this year and last) are cerebral ones. And in either case and because of it he'll be proven either a genius or an egomaniac.
  24. Good post Parker. Although I'm still going into this year with a cautious optimism, the more I think about this pick the more I am intrigued. Time and again the "experts" have said the same thing, "starting guard, eventually starting tackle". That's big for a player coming out of college. To be able to have the 'luxury' in letting a player learn the intricacies of the NFL from a protected position (Guard) for a year or two and then, if needed, move him out to an 'unprotected' position of RT or LT....talk about a quality choice. Look at what happened last when the Bears picked two OL in the first round and expected them to start in their respective positions? For one they were both Tackles and one is gone the other moved inside to Guard....for now. So the concern of him not playing a lot of college ball. Is that really a BIG concern? Not as much wear and tear and remember what I said about the "protected" position of Guard? If you HAD to learn a position on the fly, especially along the line, the Guard slot is the best. Lastly, who knows maybe we have ourselves the next Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson in regards to a two sport athlete? After all, imagine if in the off season should he decide to play for the first team he was drafted by? The White Sox. Hmmmmm.
