  1. The thing that bugs me about this line of thought: 1) You attempt to improve Webb's stock by talking about ways other people can help him. If he needs the help, then it's a personal fault of his. 2) You attempt to displace blame from Webb by stating the weaker LG next to him made Webb screw up. Let's be honest; it's not like Webb was completing his assignment and then diving in to help the LG. That simply was not happening. So it's a false line of reasoning. I can see if it was a pro-bowl type player who could occupy his guy real quick and then lend some of his incredible talent towards assisting a lesser teammate, but that's far from a description of Webb.
  2. I'm just used the status quo of "no draftees"+"no FAs". So I try to think of ways that the OL will get better with the pieces on roster. In my ideal world we get rid of both of them...well, maybe Garza sticks around for a year to help train up a young player. I have said since the beginning that when Spencer was signed he should have played center. That was the reason he was signed after all. As a replacement for Kreutz. But then the switcheroo happened, Garza left his OG home, Spencer left his C home, and the went all Little Red Riding Hood on us.

I meant: "Chance with a second team in the NFL."
  4. scs HA! I just realized your tagline. Hilarious. I don't think it's exactly related or as accurate as my tag line, but it's got merit to it.

I actually like the idea. First round talent for UDFA money? If given a second chance, he might surprise some people and change his ways. People are ready to give a guy like Webb tons of chances, even with recent stupidity, and he has only an inkling of the talent that Campbell has. And if he comes into camp lazy, way overweight, or is a problem in any way, cut his ass and dash all NFL dreams he will ever have. From what I've read, the dude understands that he F'd up big time.
  6. Yeah, crazy thought. Put Garza at his best position and put Spencer at his best position, which also just happens to be the position for which he was picked up. Been saying this ever since Spencer was signed. Doubt it will happen.
  7. This. Also, I've seen some of the SWAC talent up close and personal, and I'm not all that excited about a SWAC player in the 2nd round (not saying some don't excel). It reeks of a Lovie Smith draft. If he were a DT I would think Lovie made Lemon type it out like that.

So one link says that you give the dude some coaching and he's a career pro at either spot, and the other says Carimi should have been drafted in the 3rd. Great consistency. I don't debate that many were saying he should be a RT. It was definitely said. I debate the logic of moving a guy who has played nothing but LT his entire career over to the right side. It's akin to making a right-handed boxer start fighting left-handed. Sure, it's still crosses, hooks, jabs, and uppercuts, but the hands doing the punches are doing things a bit differently.

Oh, and just for fun, check out the bottom of this link: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1061841...-tackles/page/6 Interesting what they say about Webb: "Webb, two seasons into his NFL career, is a limited left tackle who doesn't have the agility to play in space. Would be better off on the right side in a power run scheme." Now, Bleacher Report is far from the final say on anything related to football, but it's not all that ridiculous of an idea to put a guy who is best suited as a RT at RT, and put a guy who has played virtually nothing but LT at LT.

    Brandon Albert

I'm obviously in agreement with one Albert over two Meltons. As for the +31 stuff, and the stupid comment from scs, it matters not. When someone is obviously leaps and bounds better than the majority of their peers, they don't need a rating to justify their standing.
  11. LOL! This is not really surprising since pretty much everyone will agree that Webb is a borderline idiot who has some maturity issues.

I didn't say I was never wrong. But it's difficult to prove wrong what never happens either way. And why should it end with me? Am I obligated to let you have the last word? Your opinion is that he's saying Webb>Carimi, but I just happen to think that's a vast stretch of the imagination when comparing positions. I wonder if he'd change his opinion after Webb's recent arrest?

    1. The Webb played better than Williams thing was definitely debated, and it was far from clear. Tice screwed Williams from day-one, and helped his boy Webb out from the beginning. 2. Carimi was handed the starting RT job because that's usually what happens with 1st rounders. You don't typically draft guys in the first round to sit the bench. His pedigree and collegiate resume were enough to give him some leeway that it would be probable he'd figure things out once on the field.

It is getting real old, but that's what this message board is for. And when you bring other things into the debate, they should be discussed. When you insinuate that a shit writer for the Bears says that Webb is better than Carimi, and it's not really near what he said considering a thousand other factors, it should be addressed. But you're right about the Tice-Webb connection. That can no longer be a reason used for why Webb was handed the job. It could still be used, however, when addressing how the Bears could have potentially turned a franchise QB into a less-than-franchise QB by making him terrified of life threatening injury every time he drops back into the pocket.

I just phrased it that way because it was shoving the square peg into the round hole, and it reminded me a lot of how the whole fiasco with Chris Williams took place.

    OLineman and TEs

Obviously not. But I don't believe he, or many others, are thinking outside the box in an attempt to fix the OL problems. I think it's especially true for most sports reporters who cover Chicago sports. The only guy who was hard-hitting was hated by many (Mariotti). They're all sycophants hoping to get their sideline passes, rub shoulders with players, and use it as a potential stepping stone to Sportscenter or whatever their dream job is.

Maybe because of the competition each has at their prospective positions? Maybe because they dicked Carimi around last year and tried to turn him into an OG (something he's never played)? I just don't think he was comparing the two players against one another. His comment may be an indication of how their respective status is at their assigned position, but it wasn't an either/or comparison.

    Te'o

But his supporting cast, his teammates, will also be NFL players. That's the difference.

    Te'o

Yeah, but to be fair, Alabama has become an NFL-factory over the course of the past few years. Their OL last year is probably the best OL in collegiate history. Think about that for a moment. Best in history. Two 2013 1st rounders (Warmack, Fluker), One borderline 2013 1st rounder with incredible flexibility (Jones), and Two 2014 1st rounders (Kouandijo, Steen). Add that to the fact that their RB (Lacy-1st/2nd), QB (McCarron), four WRs (Bell, Norwood, Cooper, Jones), and TE (Williams-4th/5th) will all be drafted, some fairly highly. Te'o did pretty well against the collegiate teams he played against. Against entire NFL offenses? Well, you saw the championship game.

    OLineman and TEs

No. He insinuated Webb would be more likely to keep the job. That has nothing to do with whether one player is better than the other. There are a variety of things that could be embedded in that comment, the least of which are: salary, injury history, favor amongst the organization, coachability, fit with a new system, popularity in the clubhouse, etc.
  21. jason

    All joking aside

Did Te'o's horrible 40 time just make this possible? Not that I necessarily want it, but if the Bears could trade down and get a third rounder? The delta on a trade-down from 20 to the late 20's yields a third rounder in terms of the draft value chart. I wouldn't be completely upset with a draft if it went Eifert, Te'o, Kyle Long, Braxston Cave.
  22. Agreed wholeheartedly. The LBs with skills this year all have flaws, whether they be personal or on the field.

    Te'o

You're right on the first and the second part. I'm a shade under 40, and just out of high school I was in the very low 4.5s. I'm still very fast. I officiate football and regularly keep up with D1 athletes. There are a few SEC skill players (the ones I was privileged enough to officiate) who did not outrun me to the goal-line on breakout touchdowns. I would smoke Te'o in a race. And that is not good for his draft prospects.

I ran a half marathon Saturday, so I'm pretty confident in my statement.
