Does this mean there is no chance of him coming off injured reserve later in the year. If surgery isn't required then it would take 4 to 6 weeks for the injury to heal. I believe this is a fractured scapula and not the clavicle. If he healed quickly could he be available after the bye week to play the packers?

I voted Kevin White because if Howard and the oline performs to a similar level as last year if White is successful to me this means he will be the player Pace thought he would be. This will make a major difference to the offence because teams won't want to leave themselves open to the deep play and therefore have a play a balanced scheme so giving the TE's, other WR's and the RB's potential for greater productivity. The defense other than the secondary is extremely strong and all evaluations I have seen indicate it could be top 10. If White is a deep threat and catches the majority of balls thrown his way then his play will have the most impact on the teams win and losses.

I agree our line will need to play like they did against Minnesota last night. Man handle them and wear them out. Hopefully our season will be based on a strong running game even with the safeties in the box and then when we get into the red one play 2TE sets and take advantage of big players who can box off the linebackers because they will need to respect the run. My biggest hope is that this year instead of the last few openers to my recollection we have good opening drives. Not like when Paulson at TE was at fault in 2 of the first 3 plays. Was that last year or the previous. I don't want to feel deflated if we start this season undisciplined from that start such as a 3 plays and out on offence or a 80 to 90 yard drive from Atlanta with. TD.

By all accounts Baltimore still wanted him and hoped he would sneak onto the practice squad. Regarding Langford I was dismayed when I heard the report he injured his ankle in a walk through. I suppose it might have been better to pick up a bigger back but Howard seems to be durable. Fingers crossed.
-
Langford cut today no big surprise but brace move by Pace because it questions his talent evaluation but needed to be done to make a statement to other players this is a business where you are paid well and need to perform. This is a good move in relation to Kevin White. It's time to man up or be shipped out.

Go to guy as to be White and this should have been Glennon's from day 1 because we have a good idea what Meredith is but this the the season that White comes through or we have to move on from him. My biggest worry with White is the report the coaches were trying in the offseason to build his self-esteem. I know he has been dealt a bad blow but I hoped he would use this as a motivation. I am unsure how greatly we have improved the roster from last year considering the money we had available and where we picked in the draft. Why was Houston cut was it because of his injury and his salary became guaranteed. Might have been prudent to either rest him for the meaningless preseason game and decide if he is worth a roster spot at his salary.

I would move Whitehair to LT for 3 reasons. He never played centre and was awesome there and although he is considered having short arms I would like to see his transition. Then if he is able to play there it should be a significant improvement at the position. Although Leno Jnr has been serviceable we need better play there. It would also put pressure on Leno Jnr to play better knowing he has serious competition in his contract year. My biggest reason for him to change is how not playing Grasu at centre affects the improvement of the roster. We can't afford to miss on players especially picks between the 1st and 3rd rounds because these players need to be our starters. By all accounts Grasu is now stronger and was ready to have a good season so he at least needs to have a look in training camp and the preseason. I read an article earlier in the year about the new oline coach who shuffled the Dolphins line last year after a poor start cutting the starters and trying players at different positions which worked really well for them and might be good for us. My line would be Whitehair, Sinton, Grasu, Long and Massie. I would have tried Long replace Massie but he has already shown the drop off from him playing guard is too great so he stays there.

The. Problem now will be teams know that Pace needs to trade back to have any type of draft this year. If we stay at our current position with 1 pick in each of the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th rounds this years class even with a franchise QB will be poor. I suppose we are still dealing with poor drafts since Angelo because to offset what happened today if we had a couple of compensatory picks our draft this year would look different I hope they have done good work evaluating talent because we may need to since a boat load of free agents from this draft class. We may also need to sign players with off field issues hoping we get value that way. Not looking forward to the next few days

I am perplexed regarding this pick because I want to trust what Pace is saying and my big concern is around his comments when Glennon was signed. I fully believed that Pace felt that Glennon was at the least a capable QB and at best a good to franchise capable QB. Not every team needs to be successful with QB's of the quality of Brady, Rodgers etc. So my thought was we don't need to draft a QB because Glennon is that player. Also looking at our roster and the holes I wanted to draft the best player available this year and over the next few years. With the strength of this draft in the areas of the teams needs then the picks we gave away this year would mean we are probably going to miss out on a good player in the 3rd and 4th because the 49ers will now have those picks. The only way I can see taking Trubisky makes sense is if we are ready to win now and I can't see that. Maybe they view what was achieved in free agency this year and possibly getting the players who were on IR last year to be healthy to mean this roster is where they need to be and we are going to the playoffs because I was expecting another bad year hoping the owners would ignore the fans, press etc.so we would be in a position for the 2018 season to be competitive and challenge to win the division and go deep in the playoffs. I would have been happier if the team felt Trubisky is a franchise QB and potentially at a level of being a Brady or Rodgers type player to have given them our 1st this year and 1st next year to move to the 2nd pick in the draft as long as we also got there 2nd pick this year. This would have meant the 49ers would gamble on use having a poor season and Pace gambling that we are successful and the pick would be like moving from say the 20th pick in the 1st to the 2nd pick in the 2nd.
-
Does he fit Pace's model. A big contract for a player at that age for a skill position that could deteriorate quite quickly. I am now content to wait another couple of years to build the roster through the draft and not overspend on free agents

I have watched a few games on gamepass recently and it is apparent we quickly get behind in games and then play catch up which John Fox recently spoke about in his press conference. If you take into account the strength of the offense is running i.e. Jordan Howard behind the strong interior line then we need to have a strong defense that can limit early scoring. If you look at the defense, the scheme, the best players available and position strength of the draft the priority will clearly be taking either Allen or Thomas at 3 and unless another team gives us a trade that we can't refuse I don't see us moving. The safety in our scheme is important but I think less important than the dline and having Allen/Thomas with Goldman and Hicks potentially a good to very good unit. With the safety positions I understand that Adams and Hooker potentially are studs but we can improve that area later because of the position strength in the draft and the less importance at that position in the scheme. I would be dismayed if we take a QB with the 1st because if you think best player available then clearly a QB doesn't meet this criteria. Also next years draft class is supposed to be stronger.
-
I have read various draft guides and Allen will be the BPA at 3 because I think Garrett and Thomas will be drafted in that order. Allen will be a 5 technique and Hicks and Allen will be the 2 dline men in nickel. I would like your thoughts on taking Cam Robinson in the 2nd because on many mocks he is dropping. His he an upgrade on Massie and Leno Jnr and would he be a day one starter for the 2017 season. There will be safeties and corners available in rounds 3 and 4.
-
I was listening to ESPN Chicago I think the Waddle and Silvy show and they were talking to a college scout and they asked who should the Bears take at 3. He felt Garrett went 1 and the 49ers would take a QB leaving the Bears taking the next BPA and that was Allen who he stated was very similar and as good as Suh when he came out. Alabama doctors stated his shoulders never required treatment during the season, he didn't miss any snaps and he will be 100% fit at the draft. If this is the case I would take Allen with the 3rd then draft safety or corner in the 2nd BPA on draft board and then add QB, WR, OT and TE throughout the rest of the draft taking BPA or trading down if the trade has good value. I can see the sense in trading down in the 1st and 2nd because of the holes in our roster but we could have difference makers with these picks and it would be nice to have a couple of perennial all pros on our roster. It would be good to draft Allen and Buddha Baker with picks 1 and 2 and if they play lights out as well as our defense being reasonably injury free we could make a huge step forward to being competitive.
-
I think Pace is going best player available unless he can trade down. I can't see he would get a trade this year that makes it worthwhile. There are no QB's highly rated and potentially none that start day 1 so why would a team trade up when next years draft class for QB's is considered better and there may be a day 1 starter. The only draft partner could be a team like Cleveland who has too many picks this year because I would imagine to be reasonably competitive there are only so many rookies a team will have on there roster active year by year. I still think Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas or Jonathan Allen will be the pick because another factor with taking a safety at 3 will be the draft contract. I don't know if Pace will take this into account but at 3 a safety will be 1 of the highest paid safeties in the league. I hope the owners are going to be patient and have this built right and I think Pace is doing this. This year is important for his first draft and the rookie free agents he signed in 2015. So this is a big year for White, Goldman, Grasu, Langford and Amos. 4 out of these 5 need to be starters and Landford needs to be a dominant 2nd back to Howard. If Meredith and Callaghan (at Nickel or slot corner) start then drafting 6 starters in year 1 of a 5 year rebuild means we should be competitive in hopefully year 4 if the free agents we have signed to complement the draft work out. Then in year 6 to 8 we could have a roster constructed mainly through the draft and rookie free agents.
-
The chance of us finding a trade partner is probably slim to none unless Cleveland and the 49ers help us and to do this they would have to take QB's 1 and 2. If this was a strong class I could see that but with all of the questions marks against the top 3 QB's I can't see it. Looking a Cleveland there is going to be 1 of the 3 available at pick 12 so why not take Garrett. The 49ers may take a QB because it would be a long wait until the 2nd round unless they will trade back in later on. To be honest for QB if the trade was not going to hurt the team trading back into the first for a QB is good because of the 5th year option you can pick up. If the QB needs 2 years to develop you would have another 3 years with a cost effective deal. So what do we do at 3. I like the safeties Adams and Hooker but we still need more studs in the front so we should take either Allen or Thomas and essentially there would be no drop off from either. Hopefully we won't be in this position again so it would be nice to draft a player that hopefully could be a perennial all pro and a hall of famer. I would target safety, cornerback, tight end and QB with the next three picks hoping the best available player falls into one of those positions when it's our turn to pick.
-
I would like to draft down if it is a monster trade such as a first between 10 and 15 with at least either 1st next year and a 3rd or 2 X 2nd's and a 3rd. I haven't looked at the draft chart for trades but I want a trade where everyone says The bears just committed daylight robbery. Regarding staying at 3 as long as we bring in Allen and Thomas for a closer inspection the deciding factor should be football IQ. I think the 5T is probably the area where if we get a stud we change from a good to great team. Can they both play there or can Thomas only play at OLB.
-
Listening to draft evaluators Jonathan Allen is very similar to Suh. Also Alabama doctors are on record that Allen required no treatment for his shoulders last year and it didn't affect his play. Many evaluators feel he is the best overall player in the draft but Garrett as the greater ceiling. I'm hoping they pick Allen and he becomes Justin Smith in the fangio defense. This would then free up Floyd and hopefully he has worked a hard over the of season and can play like Alton Smith. Probably wishful thinking. This could then be a top 5 front 7 and with improvement in the secondary from having more experience there and pressure from the front we could quickly turn this around.
-
The draft I would like is the following: 1 Jonathan Allen 2 Marlon Humphrey CB. Or which ever CB is preferable because a lot of decent players should be available here 3 Patrick Mahomes QB I hope the concerns around his mechanics and it being a poor QB class cause him to drop 4 Jake Butt TE 4 Chad Hansen WR 5 John Johnson FS 7 Javancy Jones OLB I am intrigued by Deshon Watson and would consider trading our 2018 1st to get back into the first to draft him similar to hoe the Vikings approached drafts a few years ago. We could then have a 5th year option which is desirable when developing a QB. If he gets past Houston at 25 then all of the other teams are unlikely to take a QB. I think there is a great benefit with having the 5th option when you have a good prospect at QB.

It is essential that Grasu is given the opportunity to win the centre position and Whitehair move to improve the quality along the line at other positions. We can't afford to miss on draft picks if this roster is going to be competitive so Grasu needs to be given the chance to show he has the strength and technique. All indications last year was he has significantly improved and the coaches were happy with his development. I liked the look of Kush last year so as long as Kyle is healed I would like to try the following at the start of training camp. Long Sinton Grasu Kush Whitehair Or Whitehair Sinton Grasu Long Massie

Incorrect. He actually had a better year. Not at the price they paid Howard last year. If they pick up a receiver in the 4th this year that has a good year then Alson will be forgotten as well. It would be nice to give our own players their 2nd contract but it needs to be right for the player and the team. I want players who want to play for the Bears and I would like to know what the Bears offered Alson. It was probably $10 million per year and he wanted an Antonio Brown deal which no other team as well as the Bears wanted to pay. You have to have a number you want to pay and stick to it unless you have a stud and I'm sorry but other than when B Marsh was opposite him Alson never delivered No. 1 receiver numbers.

How have we got worse. Regarding the QB everyone has bitched about Cutler for the last 3 years so the team probably had no option than to move on. When you have the TV media, the press and the fans all united to want Cutler out of town then I suppose the distraction needs to go away for the team to improve. So if you ignore Cutler who realistically has gone signing Glennon is really no worse with what's available and if Garapalo becomes tradeable can we complete with Cleveland and the draft picks they have for 2017 and 2018. So really it is down to Glennon or Hoyer and considering we couldn't get into the end zone with Hoyer I would rather give Glennon a chance but still draft a QB between the 2nd and 4th rounds. In fact I would be drafting a QB either every or every other year from now on. Regarding wide receiver I will take signing Wheaton because Alison can't stay healthy and the price it would cost to sign him we can strengthen here or in another area of the team. With Demps I don't think it can be argued the position hasn't improved and if he can play take the ball away and defend passes as previously then maybe the secondary improves. He may also be able to help develop our current corp of safeties. At tightened we are adding another player to the mix and frankly if he can block he is probably the only tight end on the roster that can do this successfully. This will be an important need this year because I expect us to be a predominately running team because this is our team strength with all the money spent on the interior of the line. Draft and free agency is really gradually improving a team for it to be sustainable and this is what the best teams do. I would have liked to sign a top free agent so that we could walk around with a smile after the 3 years we have endured but we need to look with reflection and this is still going to be a long process. If we target best player available and not reach for a need in 2 years time we could be able to consistently challenge the top teams and maybe start getting to the playoffs. Our biggest need this year is the secondary, wide receiver, tackle, quarterback and if we take Allen will probably be our pick and regarding his shoulders Alabama doctors stated he received no treatment and it didn't' affect his play. Who has got an injury when they have played this sport for a significant period of time. The Bears doctors will look at this in depth but a lot of evaluators still consider him the best 1 or 2 player in the draft. On ESPN Chicago yesterday he was described as being another Suh and I would take that because our front seven would become scary. Maybe be could play like Justin Smith did for Fangio at the 49ers. I would take that personally.

I am as disappointed as anyone on how day 1 of free agency went but regarding Alson leaving I am not. Would you want to play him on the franchise tag or sign him as a number 1 receiver when he can't stay healthy, last year in his contract year didn't train in Chicago during the offseason when his presence with receivers like Kev White and Cameron Meredith would have been crucial in their development and how many times did he line up offside and cause a pre-snap penalty. I also have doubts about his ability to stay healthy which probably attributed to him taking PED's last year No other team offered him a multi-year contract that the Bears would have needed to offer to keep him so I'm sorry but let him walk. If he has a great season next year such as making the pro bowl and being a top 10 receiver then he will be a free agent and we can enter the bidding war. If he has a season similar to last year then we made the right decision. THINK BACK TO LAST SEASON WHEN EVERYONE WAS STATING WE SHOULD HAVE KEPT FORTE. WELL WITH HOWARDS PLAY WAS HE MISSED!!!!

I have always been looking at either taking a star defensive player with the third pick or trading down to get a 2nd round pick and getting a good defensive player with the first and then addressing the QB in the 2nd with Mahomes. With what I saw from Watson yesterday I am intrigued because he has the athleticism needed to play in the NFL together with the intangible of changing the culture at Clemson. He has played well against a pro style defense i.e Alabama, is a winner, a leader and players talk highly about him. If there wasn't as many QB hungry team at the top of the draft I might take a risk with trading down and then taking him but if Cleveland take Garret at 1 and San Fran take Trubisky at 2 then I think we take Watson at 3.

I enjoyed this site and here is my draft which I would be more than happy with. The most of my trades took place in the first Round just moving down and the secondary players I was targeting were still there. I filled the rest of my needs once I got into the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I could have made more trades but I didn't want too many draft picks i.e. 20 players coming into camp. Your score is: 13308 (GRADE: A+) Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 12 (CLE): Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State (A-) Round 1 Pick 18 (TENN): Jamal Adams, SS, LSU (A+) Round 2 Pick 4: David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla.) I think we need to play the 5 best players across the line on the field and at the start of camp and if it doesn't work out we reshuffle on the fly. I don't see anyone in free agency I would be interested in and we got burned on Massie last year. I would play Long, Sinton, Grasu, Kush, Whitehair for the following reasons. If Long is able to play there at a level at is a significant improvement on Leno Jnr that seriously upgrades the oline and that would be his floor with his ceiling being he is a stud. If Whitehair can play centre at the level he did last year without ever playing the position then expectations could be that he could be a good to very good player at right tackle. I still think Grasu needs to be given the chance to be a serviceable centre because we can't afford to miss on drafts picks from 1st to 4th round to catch up with the teams in the north. I liked how Kush performed and my only issue with Sinton is possibly conditioning i.e. I would assume with a better diet is body fat could come down which would mean he could be stronger and quicker. My only scenario in this failing is that Long is rehabbing from surgery and if he isn't 100% by the start of training camp he may need to play right guard and we play the following Leno Jnr, Sinton, Grasu if performing or Whitehair, Long and Massie or Whitehair with draft picks providing competition and hopefully we hit on a gem. I have read good reviews on the new oline coach and it seems he had a big say in how Miami's oline was reshuffled last year and was markedly improved and I would assume he used the same approach i.e. what best 5 players can I put together. Also we won't be adding a stranger into the mix so other than switching positions the continuity could be good. This approach would also mean draft picks could be used elsewhere unless a tackle fell in the draft and Pace couldn't pass on him. It would be good to target other positions in free agency because we have greater needs and these need to be addressed unless we are going to have another year like 2015 and 2016.
