    Trades

What about trading for Jimmy G. On NFL.COM I states the 49ers would receive a massive cap relief.
  2. Pace may have drafted the wrong quarterback but I can’t see how the Bears would have been in a position to sign Trubisky to a franchise quarterback contract if he was the best quarterback of his draft class. Maybe if Trubisky had played par or better than Mahoney the Bears may not have signed Mack. If you look at Dalton and Foles’ contracts the quarterback room is still be paid well below the going rate. My hope is that Desai turns the defense back to the 2018 class, we run the ball well and Dalton is able to perform at a level that enables the Bears to beat the class teams in the NFC and we beat the Packers twice.
  3. I don’t think the Bears were in a position to sign Andy Dalton last year because until they drafted Joe Barrow he wasn’t available. The Bears may have been able to trade for Dalton but the Bengals could have been asking for more than a 4th round pick prior to the draft. Pace or Nagy wouldn’t have been prepared to wait that long. Pace likes to get his free agent class signed well before the draft so he can take the best player available although this hasn’t always worked out and especially in the early rounds. The issue with Fuller is a different matter. I don’t think he was worth paying 20 million this year and because of our cap problems was likely to be moved. Fuller was a good player but not worth that much and hasn’t intercepted the ball enough recently. I don’t know if it’s scheme but I hated how far Fuller would sit off the wide receiver at the line of scrimmage. We will need to see the play of his replacement to see how much Fuller is missed. I do think the Bears need to make an evaluation of how the cap has got this bad. I think Cliff Stein used to do the contracts back in the day and was viewed as being good at this role. Maybe the cap will always go from having lots of space and then being tight and needing to release players. The contract I think that is going to hurt us going forward is Mack’s and because this has been renegotiated twice already is going to be restrictive done the line.
  4. Regarding Dalton weak arm look at the Ravens game. He threw a Hail Mary from about the 40 yard line and easily reached the end zone and Lamb should have caught it. He rolled out numerous times and didn’t look immobile and certainly not as statuesque as Foles. From what I saw he is an improvement on Foles and if he has a good season is young enough to be the Bears starter for 4 to 6 years. If that is the case we can focus and drafting in the positions of most importance which is the offensive and defensive lines and especially this year a left tackle to replace Leno.
  5. I live in the UK and have listened to various media outlets since the start of free agency especially the criticism of signing Andy Dalton. I decided to look at a few of Dallas’ games and considering him being in a similar situation to Nick Foles in getting adjusted to a new offensive system I felt his performances were superior. Considering the injuries and poor play that Dallas had on their oline Dalton performed quite well and their porous defense didn’t help their ability to win or stay in games. What I saw from Dalton was a quarterback who is safe with the ball and able to put the ball in the correct place on timing routes. Dalton also can get the ball down the field. From what I saw is he Russell Wilson the answer is no. Is he better than Trubisky and Foles I think the answer is yes and he may turn out to be better than any quarterback we have had in years and including Cutler. The one hope I have is the Dalton may enable the Bears in the draft to take the best player available and not over reach for a quarterback.
  6. On NFL.com there is an article that Miami has cut Isaiah Wilson whom they received from Tennessee in a recent trade. Wilson was a 1st pick with Tennessee and his draft profile projected him as a RT prospect. Wilson might be claimed well before the Bears can pick him up at 20 but there seems to be some character issues such as not attending meetings. There are some issues with the police but if the culture in the building is as fantastic as Pace and Nagy say could this help Wilson get back on track. Wilson must be as good or better as Germaine Ifedi so worth a punt. Probably signs with the Patriots as becomes a quality starting RT.
  7. It’s easy to knock Pace and the ownership about the current state of the Bears but what can’t be denied is when money needs to be spent its available. Where is the loyalty to the team. Fuller was drafted by the Bears, paid handsomely when he signed the 2nd contract and I understand he earned it. However it is evident with the reduction in the salary cap that the Bears are in a hole. Indications from the media are the Bears asked Fuller to renegotiate his contract and refused possibly believing that he could earn more after being cut. Fuller may be pissed that he was offered as part of the Wilson deal but that is part of the business and shouldn’t surprise any player. I can’t believe that the contract offered Fuller by the Bears was any worse that he is now getting from Denver. So Fuller is back with Fangio and good riddance. This is an example of players being mercenaries of not caring about the team they play for. Or at least not in the same way that the fans are invested into their teams.
  8. Disappointed with this, understand the need for cap space but might have been better to cut Hicks because there is still a lot of dead money.
  9. Good luck Mitch I wonder what would have happened if Lazor had called plays all year and the Foles experiment had been tried I wonder what his season would have been. If it was really good would we have been able to sign him to a long term contract with the state of our cap.
  10. Regarding Dalton my only query would be oh he better, worse or on par with Mitch and if not better would Mitch have signed for £10 M plus 3 M in bonuses. I was looking at over the cap and I agree that we are in a hole at the moment and Pace is to blame for this. A glaring issue with our cap is Mack and the money spent on the defense. When has signing big money free agents or trading for a player worked out. The only thing I can say with Pace is he tried to put together a defense that would make us playoff capable and didn’t factor in a possible cap reduction The patriots had a major down turn last year and I think that was accepted by them to sort out their bad cap situation
  11. So Pace now has a starter and backup playing for a starters money. In some ways I would have liked a big splash but glad we didn’t mortgage the future giving away multiple 1st round picks. Is it possible that Dalton is an upgrade of Mitch and Foles?
  12. The biggest thing that I took away from the Bucs win last night and how ineffective the Chiefs were is oline, oline oline. It would be great to solve the QB position but it’s still as important as in 1985 you win in the trenches. If the QB has time, the RB is not hit in the backfield on the majority of his carries it’s likely you will have some success. With our oline QB has been running for their life and the running back is lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage. Would Mahomes play last night been how he would have played for us since being drafted with Leno and Massie being his tackles.
  13. I’m tired of giving away draft capital or signing high priced free agents. Chasing a veteran who never meets the expectation on signing day. I was ecstatic when the Bears signed Cutler, Peppers and Mack but was it really worth it. Draft the best oline players available even if you have to move up. If we have a terrible year based on the tough schedule I’ve heard mentioned and poor play calling if Nagy takes this back from Lazor. We might be in the dance for one of the better QB’s if any good ones are available. The way to win in this league is either having a generational type QB or having a good QB with a great oline and a great defense. Rogers is a generational QB who has benefited from great oline play. Would it be correct to say that year on year in the past 2 decades Green Bay’s oline has been superior to the Bears.
  14. The blow it up philosophy as really worked over the last decade since Lovie. I live in the UK, am a passionate Bears fan buying merchandise and getting to watch the Bears when they play here. I listen to Chicago radio on ESPN, contribute to this board and listen to every press conference on periscope. I have to say to negativity from Bears fans is shocking. I know Mitch is not Mahomes and Pace made a mistake although he was the number one rated QB in the draft. My question is how many QB’s the Bears have had since 2000 are worse than Mitch. In the NFC North since 2000 how many QB’s would you takeover Mitch. Obviously Favre, Rogers and Stafford. I think the problem the Bears have is looking a Green Bay with envy. They managed to have 2 generational players at QB which is hard to swallow and this has had a direct impact on our success. Rogers has hard as it is to swallow is one of the best QB’s of all time and how many teams passed over him in the draft. I am as much worried about blowing it up because we may be here again in 4 years. If Ted Phillips is ready to step down or retire putting in place a football man at the top may be the only thing that is needed. Pace and Nagy haven’t been good but made the playoffs twice in the past 3 years. Do we need improvement Yes but this needs to be done rationally.
  15. Eddie Jackson has been poor this season. Mitch gets heaps of shite thrown his way but Eddie has done nothing since he got a new contract. I have been positive this year but I think it’s over now.
  16. Nagy or Lazor being too clever. I’m running Montgomery in any critical situation. Might be they don’t want to over work Montgomery and when we score a TD on our 1st drive of the second half the game is in our hands. Have to say the D has stepped up and I’m proud of the Bears. We are playing well against the number 2 seed who have most of their team playing.
  17. Tragedy with Wims’ dropped catch. eddie Jackson still whiffing
  18. Great stop first drive. Come on Montgomery let’s pound the ball
  19. Jaylon Johnson is inactive. I am shocked that none of our questionable players have made this game because it’s a potential one and done. McMahon was on painkillers all week with a bad back and came off the bench to beat the Vikings. Walter ran for over 200 yards with the flu. Are the players different now, are the team physicians too cautious or am I being to harsh. With our inactives it feels like a miracle will be needed to beat the Saints. The Saints look like having Thomas (high ankle sprain), Kamara (Covid) and Hill (concussion) all available. Come on you Bears let’s have a game for the ages tonight ???
  20. Don’t know why this was announced this early but Smith and Mooney are out. Next man up ?
  21. Looking forward to the game and the D rising to all of the negative comments. Hopefully we stop the run and play tighter coverage to stop the short passes. I think if Kamara plays and Roquan misses the game either a quick linebacker covers Kamara because Trevathan will be exposed or one of the back up safeties play as an hybrid linebacker. The play from the front four will be whether we stop the run. On offence we should feed Montgomery the play, use play action and if the secondary sits on our short routes see some double moves. Mitch to have a great day and the Bears winning 31-24.
  22. Trubisky can only pass to the plays that have been called and this may be because the Packers secondary is better the our wide receiver group. I don’t know why double moves weren’t used to stop the DB’s sitting on routes. The short routes may also be down to the coaches assessing that our OL isn’t able to pass protect for a route that takes time to develop. On the longer passes is it possible to redo this chart to show if the receiver was open, had not caught a ball that was catchable and if it was a tight window or good separation had been gained.
  23. Buster Skrine still not practicing because of a concussion. Missed 4 games already is that a concern. Head injuries are a major worry. If a concussion lingers this long should the player call it a day and retire. Jaylon was limited so fingers crossed for Sunday ?
