  1. The chance of us finding a trade partner is probably slim to none unless Cleveland and the 49ers help us and to do this they would have to take QB's 1 and 2. If this was a strong class I could see that but with all of the questions marks against the top 3 QB's I can't see it. Looking a Cleveland there is going to be 1 of the 3 available at pick 12 so why not take Garrett. The 49ers may take a QB because it would be a long wait until the 2nd round unless they will trade back in later on. To be honest for QB if the trade was not going to hurt the team trading back into the first for a QB is good because of the 5th year option you can pick up. If the QB needs 2 years to develop you would have another 3 years with a cost effective deal. So what do we do at 3. I like the safeties Adams and Hooker but we still need more studs in the front so we should take either Allen or Thomas and essentially there would be no drop off from either. Hopefully we won't be in this position again so it would be nice to draft a player that hopefully could be a perennial all pro and a hall of famer. I would target safety, cornerback, tight end and QB with the next three picks hoping the best available player falls into one of those positions when it's our turn to pick.
  2. I would like to draft down if it is a monster trade such as a first between 10 and 15 with at least either 1st next year and a 3rd or 2 X 2nd's and a 3rd. I haven't looked at the draft chart for trades but I want a trade where everyone says The bears just committed daylight robbery. Regarding staying at 3 as long as we bring in Allen and Thomas for a closer inspection the deciding factor should be football IQ. I think the 5T is probably the area where if we get a stud we change from a good to great team. Can they both play there or can Thomas only play at OLB.
  3. Listening to draft evaluators Jonathan Allen is very similar to Suh. Also Alabama doctors are on record that Allen required no treatment for his shoulders last year and it didn't affect his play. Many evaluators feel he is the best overall player in the draft but Garrett as the greater ceiling. I'm hoping they pick Allen and he becomes Justin Smith in the fangio defense. This would then free up Floyd and hopefully he has worked a hard over the of season and can play like Alton Smith. Probably wishful thinking. This could then be a top 5 front 7 and with improvement in the secondary from having more experience there and pressure from the front we could quickly turn this around.
  4. The draft I would like is the following: 1 Jonathan Allen 2 Marlon Humphrey CB. Or which ever CB is preferable because a lot of decent players should be available here 3 Patrick Mahomes QB I hope the concerns around his mechanics and it being a poor QB class cause him to drop 4 Jake Butt TE 4 Chad Hansen WR 5 John Johnson FS 7 Javancy Jones OLB I am intrigued by Deshon Watson and would consider trading our 2018 1st to get back into the first to draft him similar to hoe the Vikings approached drafts a few years ago. We could then have a 5th year option which is desirable when developing a QB. If he gets past Houston at 25 then all of the other teams are unlikely to take a QB. I think there is a great benefit with having the 5th option when you have a good prospect at QB.
  5. It is essential that Grasu is given the opportunity to win the centre position and Whitehair move to improve the quality along the line at other positions. We can't afford to miss on draft picks if this roster is going to be competitive so Grasu needs to be given the chance to show he has the strength and technique. All indications last year was he has significantly improved and the coaches were happy with his development. I liked the look of Kush last year so as long as Kyle is healed I would like to try the following at the start of training camp. Long Sinton Grasu Kush Whitehair Or Whitehair Sinton Grasu Long Massie
  6. Incorrect. He actually had a better year. Not at the price they paid Howard last year. If they pick up a receiver in the 4th this year that has a good year then Alson will be forgotten as well. It would be nice to give our own players their 2nd contract but it needs to be right for the player and the team. I want players who want to play for the Bears and I would like to know what the Bears offered Alson. It was probably $10 million per year and he wanted an Antonio Brown deal which no other team as well as the Bears wanted to pay. You have to have a number you want to pay and stick to it unless you have a stud and I'm sorry but other than when B Marsh was opposite him Alson never delivered No. 1 receiver numbers.
  7. How have we got worse. Regarding the QB everyone has bitched about Cutler for the last 3 years so the team probably had no option than to move on. When you have the TV media, the press and the fans all united to want Cutler out of town then I suppose the distraction needs to go away for the team to improve. So if you ignore Cutler who realistically has gone signing Glennon is really no worse with what's available and if Garapalo becomes tradeable can we complete with Cleveland and the draft picks they have for 2017 and 2018. So really it is down to Glennon or Hoyer and considering we couldn't get into the end zone with Hoyer I would rather give Glennon a chance but still draft a QB between the 2nd and 4th rounds. In fact I would be drafting a QB either every or every other year from now on. Regarding wide receiver I will take signing Wheaton because Alison can't stay healthy and the price it would cost to sign him we can strengthen here or in another area of the team. With Demps I don't think it can be argued the position hasn't improved and if he can play take the ball away and defend passes as previously then maybe the secondary improves. He may also be able to help develop our current corp of safeties. At tightened we are adding another player to the mix and frankly if he can block he is probably the only tight end on the roster that can do this successfully. This will be an important need this year because I expect us to be a predominately running team because this is our team strength with all the money spent on the interior of the line. Draft and free agency is really gradually improving a team for it to be sustainable and this is what the best teams do. I would have liked to sign a top free agent so that we could walk around with a smile after the 3 years we have endured but we need to look with reflection and this is still going to be a long process. If we target best player available and not reach for a need in 2 years time we could be able to consistently challenge the top teams and maybe start getting to the playoffs. Our biggest need this year is the secondary, wide receiver, tackle, quarterback and if we take Allen will probably be our pick and regarding his shoulders Alabama doctors stated he received no treatment and it didn't' affect his play. Who has got an injury when they have played this sport for a significant period of time. The Bears doctors will look at this in depth but a lot of evaluators still consider him the best 1 or 2 player in the draft. On ESPN Chicago yesterday he was described as being another Suh and I would take that because our front seven would become scary. Maybe be could play like Justin Smith did for Fangio at the 49ers. I would take that personally.
  8. I am as disappointed as anyone on how day 1 of free agency went but regarding Alson leaving I am not. Would you want to play him on the franchise tag or sign him as a number 1 receiver when he can't stay healthy, last year in his contract year didn't train in Chicago during the offseason when his presence with receivers like Kev White and Cameron Meredith would have been crucial in their development and how many times did he line up offside and cause a pre-snap penalty. I also have doubts about his ability to stay healthy which probably attributed to him taking PED's last year No other team offered him a multi-year contract that the Bears would have needed to offer to keep him so I'm sorry but let him walk. If he has a great season next year such as making the pro bowl and being a top 10 receiver then he will be a free agent and we can enter the bidding war. If he has a season similar to last year then we made the right decision. THINK BACK TO LAST SEASON WHEN EVERYONE WAS STATING WE SHOULD HAVE KEPT FORTE. WELL WITH HOWARDS PLAY WAS HE MISSED!!!!
  9. I have always been looking at either taking a star defensive player with the third pick or trading down to get a 2nd round pick and getting a good defensive player with the first and then addressing the QB in the 2nd with Mahomes. With what I saw from Watson yesterday I am intrigued because he has the athleticism needed to play in the NFL together with the intangible of changing the culture at Clemson. He has played well against a pro style defense i.e Alabama, is a winner, a leader and players talk highly about him. If there wasn't as many QB hungry team at the top of the draft I might take a risk with trading down and then taking him but if Cleveland take Garret at 1 and San Fran take Trubisky at 2 then I think we take Watson at 3.
  10. I enjoyed this site and here is my draft which I would be more than happy with. The most of my trades took place in the first Round just moving down and the secondary players I was targeting were still there. I filled the rest of my needs once I got into the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I could have made more trades but I didn't want too many draft picks i.e. 20 players coming into camp. Your score is: 13308 (GRADE: A+) Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 12 (CLE): Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State (A-) Round 1 Pick 18 (TENN): Jamal Adams, SS, LSU (A+) Round 2 Pick 4: David Njoku, TE, Miami (Fla.) 11. I think we need to play the 5 best players across the line on the field and at the start of camp and if it doesn't work out we reshuffle on the fly. I don't see anyone in free agency I would be interested in and we got burned on Massie last year. I would play Long, Sinton, Grasu, Kush, Whitehair for the following reasons. If Long is able to play there at a level at is a significant improvement on Leno Jnr that seriously upgrades the oline and that would be his floor with his ceiling being he is a stud. If Whitehair can play centre at the level he did last year without ever playing the position then expectations could be that he could be a good to very good player at right tackle. I still think Grasu needs to be given the chance to be a serviceable centre because we can't afford to miss on drafts picks from 1st to 4th round to catch up with the teams in the north. I liked how Kush performed and my only issue with Sinton is possibly conditioning i.e. I would assume with a better diet is body fat could come down which would mean he could be stronger and quicker. My only scenario in this failing is that Long is rehabbing from surgery and if he isn't 100% by the start of training camp he may need to play right guard and we play the following Leno Jnr, Sinton, Grasu if performing or Whitehair, Long and Massie or Whitehair with draft picks providing competition and hopefully we hit on a gem. I have read good reviews on the new oline coach and it seems he had a big say in how Miami's oline was reshuffled last year and was markedly improved and I would assume he used the same approach i.e. what best 5 players can I put together. Also we won't be adding a stranger into the mix so other than switching positions the continuity could be good. This approach would also mean draft picks could be used elsewhere unless a tackle fell in the draft and Pace couldn't pass on him. It would be good to target other positions in free agency because we have greater needs and these need to be addressed unless we are going to have another year like 2015 and 2016.
  12. With the money invested already in the oline i.e. Long, Sinton and Massie it's unlikely we can pursue any tackles in free agency and with indications this years tackle class is weak with other teams targeting there will be a good chance that anyone taking a tackle will be overreaching which will be similar to QB's this year. I was just looking at what is cuuently on the roster and how it could be shuffled to improve the overall quality. Could Long play left tackle better than Leno jnr and could Whitehair play tackle better than Massie. This would also be dependant on whether the drop off in the interior is not too great
  13. Most people are indicating we need to strengthen at tackle but we seem to have too much potentially inside at guard and centre and I wondered with the new oline coach who seems to be well respected could this be our depth chart for the oline in 2017. Left tackle: Kyle Long Charles Leno jnr Left guard: Josh Sinton draft pick 2017 to back up both guards and centre Centre: Hroniss Grasu ditto above Right guard: Eric Kush ditto above Right tackle: Cody Whitehair Bobby Massie (either becomes serviceable depth or wait until there is no cap hit releasing him I know this would possibly mess up building continuity at the position but we are paying Long left tackle money and maybe he is better suited to play left tackle and being next to Sinton could help with this. A lot would be dependent as well with moving Whitehair to right tackle with my biggest concern being is Grasu up to playing centre in the NFL. Indications were that he was bigger and stronger prior to his season ending injury but if he comes back stronger and healed from the injury and can give you play at the level Whitehair gave in 2016 there is a good chance that Whitehair could be the answer at Right tackle. If you look at his play at centre in 2016 this is a position he had never played in college and his draft profile was he could play guard or right tackle. If he was tried there in the offseason and it worked out we could have a fixture at the position for 5 to 10 years. I was fairly impressed with Kush's play after Long went on injured reserve so feel he could be a could fit at right guard and could be a cheap option there. Is this something that could enable us to not look at spending a high pick at tackle in a thought to be weak draft class. We could then concentrate in free agency and the draft in improving my order in my view our order of need being safety, cornerback, quarterback, tight end and then overall quality team depth. If we can sign Eric Berry and draft Malik Hooker as well as sign a top corner in free agency with the current players on our roster I would be happy with the secondary as a whole. We could then draft the best QB available with either our 2nd or 3rd pick with anyone from the current QB's being the placeholder until he is ready. There is a good chance we could draft a decent tight end this year and then improve our depth. Maybe we can also sign Jeffery to a team friendly incentive based contract so together with Meredith, White returning and the existing depth at the position this could be an area that doesn't need to be addressed in the offseason.
  14. Malik Hooker looks a special player in this you tube link.
  15. I really hope the Pace isn't pressured into overreaching for a QB either in free agency or the draft. This is supposed to be a strong defensive year and at tight end which are big needs for us. As discussed earlier in free agency we could fix the secondary especially at safety if Kansas City don't sign Berry to a long term deal or franchise him (unsure they won't depending on how they value safety) and At corner back with either Gilmore, Bouye or Johnson and then draft either Allen, Adams or Lattimore with the third pick and you never know if Cleveland and Sanfrancisco make bone head picks and draft QB's with the 1st and 2nd picks Miles Garrett could fall to us. We could then pick up a very good dlineman, Safety or tight end with our second pick and then use our third pick on the best available QB. If we find a gem the beauty of this would be that he is on a cost effective salary much like how drafting Russell Wilson helped build Seattle. My big concern with Garapalo is although the view is if he was available for the draft this year he may be picked first overall however it would still be a fairly team friendly deal but getting him this year would cost us draft picks we can't afford to give up and a contract probably greater than what Ostweiler got this year. Another factor to consider is that although we currently don't have a franchise QB many teams have been successful in the playoffs without one as long as the team had quality starters and good depth. We currently have possibly 2 to 3 serviceable QB's that we could pick 2 from to go along with the QB we are developing to become our franchise QB. I feel that although Cutler is no longer the long term answer if no one better is available than him to move forward with this year then I wouldn't be against him being the placeholder and who is evaluated as the better player between Hoyer and Barkley as the 2nd QB with Cook given the chance to win this spot (don't see Fales being kept). The QB I like is Patrick Mahomes but must admit have only seen him on YouTube highlights. Don't like his foot work but has a good arm and seems be be accurate. If he has a good character and could he be taught to use his feet better similar to what Gase and Matrz tried with Cutler who was reported as not being overly on board that this particular attribute could transform him from an average to good QB to possibly a very good QB maybe even a top 15 player at this important position. Mahomes with good footwork could be a very good to a franchise quality QB and if this doesn't work out we draft another QB next year and again every year until we find him. In 1 to 2 years time our roster should be competitive and hopefully we get lucky on the most important position to get right. You never know we could find 2 decent QB's over this time and find a trade partner who gives us a bucket load of picks. Wishful thinking maybe.
  16. With the oline coach gone I wonder what the thought is on the oline moving forward. Whatever we do at QB is impacted by the control at the line of scrimmage. Magazu was a long time Fox coach so that must be telling with him being let go. I hope we don't reach for a QB because we are at least a secondary, at least 1 tackle, a tight end and a stud DE from having team capable of making the playoffs before overspending on a QB. I would rather carry on with Cutler than send the 3rd pick to New England for Garapalo
  17. I don't fancy blowing this up again. I would not want to sack Fox at this point. If we bring in another coach it could mean the players don't fit there schemes and we again transform the roster. I would rather give Pace and Fox another 2 years to find out how the roster and coaching matures i.e. players develop, players and coaches get used to the offensive and defensive schemes to find out if we become a playoff caliber team. I would if we go back 2 years ago most bears fans would be surprised how much of a rebuild this has turned out to be. I would imagine that Fox and Pace didn't realise this as well.
  18. Hoyer does well not turning the ball over but he can't seem to get the ball in the end zone. The oline looks improved so we need to see if Cutler can make a difference. I know at the moment we look like having a high draft pick but I am unsure whether the roster is good enough to take one a QB with a top 1 to 5 pick at this point. I Still think we need to upgrade the defense and Cutlers contract is team friendly moving forward unless we can get as lucky as Seattle did and pick up a Russell Wilson caliber player between round 3 to 4 which would mean the money allocated to the QB position would be small if we trade or cut Cutler. If the oline continues to gel and we franchise Jeffery and keep Cutler we should be able to seriously improve the defense at the top of the draft. Although we may still need an offensive tackle.
  19. Come on d time to apply pressure. Hope Willie Young can get another couple of sacks
  20. Better rush especially fitting to get off blocks with those 2 sacks. Don't like the lanes we have been rushing the passer on because 3 players seemed grouped together and get in each other's way. Nice to see Bullard got his 1st sack. Wish Vinatieri would miss a kick though. Wish Barth could have made the 49 yarder.
  21. Jordan Howard is a beast. Got to be our no 1 back now. Like our back rotation going forward with Howard 1, Langford 2 and Carey 3. The decision to let Forte go is looking good now. Play of Hoyer is also impressive can't see Cutler getting back other an injury. Can't see hoe Pulsen can be considered a blocking tight end draws penalties and misses blocks every week. Appalling pass rush !!!!!!!!!
  22. Young players shining today also like Will Sutton and Eddie Royals play
  23. Have they moved on from Fuller. I know he hasn't developed into a top tier corner like we had hoped but if he is a good 3rd to 4th corner, can play nickel or be moved to safety at least we aren't throwing away another draft pick. I hate it when I hear he's not their guy i.e. Pace/Fox didn't draft him that is a cop out. He was perceived as one of the better corners in hid draft and if the secondary becomes a strength when he's not playing and he isn't needed for depth but at this point the secondary is a weakness. Another thing I hate with the secondary is why do we always give a player a cushion to have a free release whereas the players covering our receivers play press coverage. Surely having to fight a player to get off the line of scrimmage breaks up the timing. I understand if the player gets beat it is an easy completion but this is the case with a free release. In the future to be successful i.e. like the legion of boom we need to be able to play press coverage so while we aren't going to be a successful team we might as well develop the players to play in a way that enables the defense to be in the top 10 in the league.
  24. This is a good article and is what I have been seeing when rewatching the game on NFL gamepass in coaches mode which enables you to look closely a the blocking of the linemen. I understand that I don't know what the play being run is but I see the interior players giving ground as soon as the ball is snapped on run plays. The guards positions are where the money is spent and I would expect better. I am concerned about Long is his play due to his injury or poor technique or both. If it is the injury and this is the level he will be able to play at this year then as bad as Larsen might be would it be better to put him on IR instead of potentially causing a more serious injury. Regarding Sinton I suppose he needs a bit of time to bed in, learn the plays and develop an understanding but at the 4th game he should be ready to play. This game I feel is really important whether or not we lose. We need to see the interior play be graded as good to excellent for the team to have any confidence for the rest of the season and next year. I would like to see us run 60 to 65 percent and also bring in a guard and run from heavy sets and if White or Jeffrey are in single coverage throw them the ball. In obvious pass plays bring in Miller and Royal. Also if Paulsen's play doesn't improve I would look to cut him and use the most athletic backup lineman to play the 2nd tight end. I was happy with them moving on from Bennett because of the distraction he was causing but this has been clearly an oversight. I saw him whiff on a number of blocks at the end of last year which is probably down to him not getting his contract addressed in the off season but it looks to me that Paulsen is a liability at the moment.
  25. What are your thoughts on the biggest disappoint this year. Mine is the offense and especially the offensive line. I understand the Cutler concerns and it depends on everyone's position i.e. Are you a Culter or a hater. My position is that I felt he has the physical tools and hoped he would gain the mental apptitude to play the position however his salary this year is guaranteed so if you can't trade him do you cut him and take the $16 million + cap hit. I wouldn't. Should we have drafted a QB in hindsight yes but the ones drafted this year could regress. In relation to the oline I feel this is the most important piece and could still change our season. We have committed draft picks recently i.e. Long, Grasu and Whitehair and felt that considering his reasonably above average performance that Leno Jnr was serviceable. We have invested a lot of money for instance contracts for Long, Sinton and Massie with the view that this should be our strength. On paper I think the oline should be better than last year but it has been shocking. Play calling from Logins hasn't helped but I have seen the dline of the Texans, Eagles and Cowboys far too often in our back field. Until this improves the play of the skill positions won't show us what they can be especially an evaluation of Kevin White who I feel has improved week to weak. If the line doesn't get there act together then we could end up having a 0-16 season and I feel we are currently the 32nd team in the NFL and will have the 1st pick in the draft. Or do we feel the defense has been the biggest reason for the appalling start to the season. We are definitely missing McPhee and you can't always plan in the draft and free agency for this because you already have money invested in the position and possibly hope someone will step up. Personally I have been concerned with our strength at NT which I believe was a strength in the draft. I would have liked more depth behind Goldman if you look at the good defense such as Houston they have a massive presence i.e. Vince Wilfork in the middle and with a player like that it makes the rest of the front seven stronger. If you negate runs up the middle you play to the strength of our defense i.e. Quicker at linebacker.. Or is it the secondary is the weakness have we not invested enough their. We have drafted players who are now getting a chance at concern and safety. There seems to be a concern regarding the concussions at this position. Are they tackling properly? Whatever happens this season I don't know if I want to see another sacking of the GM and head coach. If we knew what we knew now would we have still moved away from Angelo and Lovie because the last 4 years have been terrible to watch and for the charter franchise this is unacceptable..
