There was some weird karma going on with the fact we were drafting him as I was posting this.
That's being insightful.

I think with the move to re enter the draft for a DE, clearly Poles thinks we're winning this year. He's just a situational pass rusher at this point but that will boost the DL.
As much as we still question the OL , Braxton, Jenkins, Bates, Davis and Wright will be an at least average graded line to work with. Poles tried to get Bates before and sees something in him. We have added depth with Pryor, Shelton, Kiran A.
Last year our two big weaknesses was the center position and Borom when he had to play, we fixed that. The one outlier is the health of Jenkins, I don't think Davis will be a problem at all.
I think there still is a couple of moves to be made by Poles. Another DE and maybe an OL vet.
We are supposed to quiet our expectations because we have a rookie QB. I'm not.
What say you?

It seems like Poles always finds a few UDFAs that make the roster. This year it will be Randolph and Reddy Stewart, a DT and CB.
-
Also the 6th round pick you have listed will end up a 4 th round pick. Justin will play more than 51% of the QB snaps. Payton got rid of Wilson at a big expense because he's a tool. Tomlin won't put up with crap from Wilson. Justin will start at least 14 games this year, clearly a better QB than Wilson at his age. IMO
I talked to a Seattle fan and said Wilson is a ego tripper and aleiniates his teammates. Tomlin gets rid of malcontents.
If Allen leaves after this year for a big contract don't we get a third for that?

Poles surprised us twice punter at 4 and moved back in the draft. He needs some development but has a high ceiling.

2025 finishing touches to rebuild
RD1 - DT
RD2 - C/G
RD2- DE
RD3- C/G
RD5- CB
RD6- LB
RD6 - WR
RD6 - RB
If Pickens and Dexter take a step forward, DE moves to the first round.

So our 2024 draft is:
1a) QB Caleb Wiliams1b) WR Rome Odunze
2) DE Montez Sweat
3) OT Kiran Amagadjie
4a) WR Keenan Allen
4b) P Tory Taylor
5a) C Ryan Bates
5b) DE Austin Booker
not bad at ALL
We got major impact blue chippers at important positions QB, WR (x2), DE
And depth at important positions OT, DE
And added a very good center and punter. There are 5 blue chip players listed if the punter becomes all pro. 5 out of 8 ain't bad.

Next year's 4th, so a possible pick in the 120s for 144. Booker was a top 100 player, so there is value there.
Draft Buzz had him graded as 68 th best prospect.

There has to be some character or health concerns with Austin Booker. It's not just us avoiding him.
I seen a couple of scout services that had him ranked late 2 nd round as a grade. He's light at 24o only one year of production. He's considered a project with high ceiling. Poles moved to the draft at that moment because they expected him to get picked.

i agree. we got a starting quality player in the 4th. normally i wouldn't pick one that high but we are getting to the point where our roster is full and a pick this far down ends up on the practice squad or cut especially if they have an eye on some future cuts/free agents.
a punter is a really important part of your defense per se'. if this guy kills it it was worth it this particular year. next year we are fat with picks so something has to give for our roster then.
If he's all pro in two years, are we still complaining?
-
Finally Poles gives us a WTF moment but with only 4 picks, can't expect magic. I would think they could have traded back and still took him. He waa rated to go in the fifth round but we don't have a fifth rounder.
-
With only 4 picks, he took 4 players he wanted. Now I can go back to bed 12 hours different here.
-
Where did you get your list? The three I look at had Mo Kamara rated higher than everyone but Dorlus. If he can trade back and get one of those centers and Kamara, I would be a happy camper.
-
He is the clone to Braxton, physical specimen from a small school. Rated higher than Braxton with more upside. If Braxton doesn't keep progressing, we have a replacement in the wings. All the good teams have depth on the OL we are now starting to build that.
-
Still left worth drafting
Mo Kamara. /He had 50 pressures and 13 sacks last year. 4.57
Brandon Dorlus
Myles Cole
Brennan Jackson/ 12.5 TFL 8.5 sacks 4.69 team captain
Austin Booker
Javon Solomon /16 sacks last year
Gabriel Murphy/ 8 sacks 12 TFL 4.68
Kamara is the dude to get.

I think they are going to have to live with that this year and than next offseason they can address it - whether via free agency, the draft or both. Back to your point - they are focused on building a culture and continuing to develop roster while also putting Caleb in a great spot to develop. I think if all goes right they can make a run at 10 games - but let’s get it right and than add another wave of talent next year (maybe even a trade acquisition).
Keep in mind we brought in a DL guru that may get more out of our existing roster. I expect Dexter and Pickens to be improved. Billings and he brought in Cowart right away so he must see some potential from him. Walker plays inside also. On the outside you have Sweat and Walker plus Jacob Martin, Daniel Hardy, Khalid Kareem. With Dom Robinson, maybe Eric Washington can get one to be viable. He will bring another one in. All is not lost.

exactly right - this draft and next years draft are both aiming at the 2025 season, one where our stud QB isnt a rookie, and where we can fill the final missing pieces including another pass rusher.
The window for us to seriously contend for a superbowl opens in 2025, although I wouldnt put a ceiling on what this team is capable of this year either. But its a PLAN for 2025.Poles has a plan if he doesn't get help in the DL, he will bring in a vet. There will be a round of cuts to choose from. Do not underestimate players on the team getting better. I was curious when he said players are going to have a hard time making this roster. To me that means he likes some backups we aren't thinking about.
-
They filled a need , swing T. He has traits, Braxton started as a rookie. Maybe that happens again. I'm listening to CHGO podcast and they praise Poles then they complain that he didn't take who they wanted. Poles took Kiran because he won't make it to 122. Trust in Poles.

Braxton Jones safe?
He needs some time but potential to push him for a job in 2025. OL depth is a good thing. Wait and see , Poles will trade back at 122 and still grab a OC and DE.

It seems the future plan is to have Moore and Odunze. Allen was a piece of insurance against not getting a WR in the draft, and a clear move to be sure that they give Williams weapons.
The way it all worked out, Allen ends up a luxury for this year, he'll teach Odunze and maybe even Moore a thing or two about breaks in routes. We may well not bring him back next year. But for this year at least, we have a ridiculous 3 man roster at WR. It's completely unfair to defenses. Williams has to be thrilled.
And so am I!If we end up being successful, he may want to stay to win a SB and we can get a team friendly deal. Plus his a he could be counter productive on getting a big contract.

I think Odunze is a really really good and grounded dude. He is going to work hard, etc. He has good 40 speed and shown a ton of ability to make tight catches and use his body. It really comes down to me - will those strength's overcome his lack of quickness - or is he quick enough to get enough seperation where he can dominate in the pro's or with the margin's shrinking and the hits better does it kind of negate some of his strength's and he ends up more "okay". Barring injury I think no matter what he will be a solid 750-900 yard guy...the question is can he be a 1300 yard type of receiver.
We're going to find out.

Odunze has legit long speed. The route running. But compared to those two he’s really ahead in terms of being a redzone target. I think he’s better at catching jump balls than MHJ.
I think any or all of the first 3 WRs can be all pro types.

Good points, right now we have 5 DTs, so Randolph would have to beat out Cowart and Michael Dwunfour for the 4 th spot.
