Yes, they did that in KC while Poles was there.

You can find stats to try to show whatever point you're trying to make. The only thing that matters is everyone knows its not good enough. So which way does Poles go, no one knows that. A new QB is another restart, does Poles really want to do that? If he identifies a special QB, then he will perform well enough in the first year to win, if he brings in the wrong guy, we could still struggle. Everyone wants change but that brings risk. If he keeps Fields, upgrades the roster, get an OC that design's an offense to fit his strengths, he knows he can win with Fields for now. 2 more years at relative cheap QB money, and bring a prospect in to develop. That happened in KC while he was there. Many examples of good teams with not first round picks at QB, Purdy, Hurts, Prescott, Wilson was a third rounder. Build the team and he will find a QB somewhere.

There's another option, keep Flus, fire Getsy and bring back Fields then draft a prospect . Lots of different options for Poles, all tough decisions.
-
People look at Fields and see his numbers for the year, he missed 5 games yet people use it a measuring stick on progress. If you use his average, he would have had another 1000 yds passing. Does that look better now? 3600 ?

By all the QB decisions we have seen over the last few years, apparently not a lot of smart people in the NFL.

Poles just has to make the right decision. If he keeps Fields, he has to play well, if he drafts a QB he has to shown as a # 1 pick is a special player. He won't get a second chance to fix his decision. The OL had their worst game of the year . We didn't run well and Fields was constantly under pressure. The best OL , Jenkins, had his worst game. Poles has to draft a OT, OG, and absolutely get a new center. He needs another pass rusher and keep adding depth . That's what building thru the draft encompasses. Building the roster isn't done yet which will affect the the possible trade of the first pick. I get the impression that everyone thinks we are already supposed to be a good team that isn't playing well, that's not the case. The mission this year was to improve and find out if Justin is our QB of the future. We did that, and now Poles just has continue forward improving the team. I don't understand the outrage to burn everything down. Flus got a 4 year deal as the coach, if the McCaskeys expected everything to be accomplished in two yrs, Poles and Flus would have got two yr deals. I think Flus stays after watching interviews by Poles and Warren, Getsy probably gone and we will find out on draft day with Justin.

The Chicago Bears are on the clock! OFFSEASON OPEN THREAD!

So how long does anyone think it will take Poles to fire or announce he's bringing Flus back? I think if he doesn't announce it right away, odds are Flus will be back. Whether he brings back Flus or not, fire Getsy tomorrow. We won't find out about Fields until the draft day, no logic to show his hand before the draft. -
Now if he gets a better coach for the job , go for it , but is a newbie going to be better? Harbaugh , or A vet coach? You could lose the locker room if you make a bad choice.
-
I agree with that. I trust Poles knows what he's doing.
-
Last year when the Carolina GM choose Young. Of course he is already fired.
-
Is there somewhere I said Justin was better? I don't recall that statement.
-
Lance wasn't A starter, he had a 7 th round draft pick take his job. Not sure what other people think but the GM survey said a 3 rd was more likely. There are examples of a lot of bad trades in the league, so far Poles seems aware of what he can get but he will definitely be starting in the league next year.
-
Poles is going to do what he thinks is best, he could care less what we think. I support whatever decision he makes even if it's not what I thought he was going to do. I think he is a smart guy whether he brings anyone back or gets new people. I just want a winning team.
-
You may be right, but someone will think they know how to use Fields better than the great Getsy. They will not base their opinion of Fields on one game. Smart people know the play calling sucks and Fields is under pressure at a high rate. They will take a chance.
-
My comment was no one knows, I never said no one isn't allowed an opinion, they just don't matter.
-
He's starting somewhere next year, it may not be here. No ones trading a second round and sit him with all the mediocre QB rooms in the league.
-
I like that draft but think edge will be addressed with one of the two first picks. Our OL and DL did not control the line of scrimmage. We are one pass rusher away from being a top 5 defense, offense still needs rebuilding.
-
I'm not saying he will keep Flus , im saying he looks at it differently than fans do.
-
His plan was not for two years, why does everyone think a GM that is rebuilding through the draft is going to get that done in 2 years, that's silly. Next year is the year of judgement.
-
So you take a job and tell the owners it will be a 3-4 rebuild. It's the end of yr 2. We improved as a team as he has his answers at the QB position, he's not talking so we will find out on draft day. Anyone that's tells you they know what he's going to do is lying.
-
We just ain't good enough, he's going to keep building the team and will decide who stays and who goes, he don't care what we think. 7-10 is better than 3-14, next year Poles has to win or his job is in jeopardy.
-
There's no more show to see , now Poles makes his decisions accordingly to what makes the team better. It doesn't matter what any of the fans want. It's what he thinks is the best way to get to a playoff run. Poles controls the future.
-
There's so many sports journalists making shit up, it's hard to tell who actually has inside information. Poles will never let anyone know what he has planned except maybe Warren. He's tight with information, as he should be.

Week 18 Official Game Thread CHI @ GB, SUN 1/7, 3:25PM, CBS, CHI +3, 44.5 O/U

Whether Fields comes back or not a big game helps his trade stock also. No one should ever want the bears to lose to the Packers. -
When I look at Justin's growth, the first year was a total waste. They were going to not play him all year, no first team reps and when he got thrown in against the Browns, 9 sacks. Anyone think that wouldn't effect everything you do the rest of the year. Much more fair to measure with his last two years.
