That's just bears media thinking their smarter than everyone else. It's totally on the table that they could be gone but Flus was Poles pick as coach. Year 2 in a 4 year rebuild 3-14 , then 7-8 wins is progress. No one but me thought we could win 10 games, yet with a few plays back, we could have 9 wins right now. Poles has no reason to change his 4_year plan because of outside noise. Now Fields is 50-50 on being here for obvious reasons. It all comes down to his QB evaluation of rookie QBs.

Poles is always thinking about the cap when making decisions and wants to build thru the draft. Odds of giving up what it would take to get Hebert would be to high.
-
With the ability if Kmet and Moore you would think Getsy would target them all the time. Can't figure out his game planning.

Week 17 Official Game Thread ATL @ CHI, SUN 12/31, 12PM, CBS, CHI -3 O/U 38

Stats tell a story but anyone can beat anyone. It happens all the time. We need to run the ball well and be ahead on TOs and we will win the game. Hopefully Kmet and Moore play. -
The last two choices for sure because they have a history of designing an offense around the strenghs of a player over systems. Even if Fields is gone, you need adaptabity.

The wrong answer for Poles will be discussed after we see one year from now what choice he made and how well that person did.

I am just now trying to evauluate Williams and see what all the hype is about.

That's an interesting article, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Intangables matter too.

Im in to the evaluate Williams mode now, but do not discount anything you said.

Adam is the stats guy on here. I found this but pretend Adam posted it. Just another piece of information to form opinions about who you like.

Every thing you stated is true. I think if we could add a center and another edge player, this team takes a giant step forward. He will add another weapon, A FS, this off-season, the top 2 picks and the top acquisition in free agency will fill 3 of those spots. It's going to be an interesting off-season.

I like the way you give argument on both sides of the Fields conversation. I posted a thread on my QB opinions, and I'm not going to bounce back and forth every week after another game. Until I get more information, I'm interested in Caleb Williams. I love Justin Fields but compared the situation to playing cards. Justin is 2 pair. You can win some hands with that but I will play for the full house. Next year, 10 wins with Justin, probably not the same with Williams but yr 2 may bring us a SB contention. Justin is not Lamar Jackson but he can get close to that level with the right offense. If Poles drafts Williams or who he chooses as a better QB, I'm all in. If he retains Fields, I'm all in on that to. I don't have to condemn one or the other because it's not about being right it's supporting what Poles does , what's best for the future of the Bears. I can root for us to win and still understand that losing would give us a better draft pick. We were lucky to get the first pick last year, thank you Lovie, if we get the #1 pick this year, luck will be involved because it has nothing to do with how many games we win. We are 4-2 in our last 6 games but as I listen to the radio this morning, I couldn't tell by the conversation that we won. If we end up with MHJ or Bowers and get another top 5 pick next year , that would be awesome. The situation still exists that Justin stays and we still get another QB. That may be the best option.

With all that you said, the top raterd teams in the National conference have a 7th rounder, 2nd rounder, 4th rounder and a first round QB that rejected by his first team leading thier teams. Something the good teams have in common are good rosters and good coaches. We arent there yet, it appears that a good roster and good coach is the common denominator, not a 1st round QB.
-
TE is a difficult position to excel at early. A few exceptions to the rule but usually they need time to develop. We have two legitiment weapons now, need one more and our offense will be much more consistent. Every time we try the run the ball, we excel at that but Getsy just isnt good at play calling.
-
Lawrence was heralded as ( the guy), isn't there yet. Some players need more time to develop, need a better coach, need better roster around him.
-
Carolina may win one but 2 is very unlikely.

You're entitled to your opinion, but the statement doesn't change. Winning teams value winning, I don't think Flus is leaving so the team and him are going to have a meeting and say we should lose more games so we can get a higher pick. Poles may think that but would never say it. You're right culture will change with a new OC , maybe a new QB but the other players could give a crap what fans think. You said it yourself, players ain't going to quit, their playing in the game.

Flus was hired by Poles, the outside noise is get a new coach but nothing has come from inside with that tone. Flus has shown growth with the defense but the offense still has a lot to be desired. The offense is Gesty's baby and he will be gone. Flus is not perfect but he's new to the job and has the team vitialized with a long losing streak. The loses are bad but Poles won't hold Flus responsible for his first season, he gutted the roster. In the last 6 games we are 4 and 2 . In a coaching world that's progress. Stability is never established by constantly making changes. With a new QB, and new OC, the winning will get more consistent. IF we win out 8-9 that's a huge turn around. Even 7-10 is up tick. So Flus will be back.IMO

That's fair, his only 2 SBs were in his first 4 yrs. I like he has never had a losing season, 10 of 16 seasons in the playoffs. No bullshit kind of coach, he got rid of Chase Claypool. Then who that can be acquired?

I listen to the Score everyday during football season ,lots of football talk. Steve Rosenbloom repeated a great idea. Cant stand Rosenbloom or Bernstien , they both are arrogant, think there always right and negative Nellys. Trade Fields for Tomlin. (see Clab Williams thread). Its been suggested the owner wants a fresh start in Pittsburgh with a new coach. Tomlin has a great winning record but hasnt won a playoff gme since 2017. Tomlin is a coach Bears fans would love. Who knows if there is any legs to that rumor but its nice to think about.
-
Does anyone think Tomlin or Belichick are going to lose to get a higher pick? They just both won this week , hell no. Winning creates a winning culture, much more important than a couple higher spots in the draft. That is what losing cultures do, we are trying to change that. Whether we change QBs or not, the rest of the players that are going to be here and they need to learn how to win. There is a 90% chance we are picking #1, that is the prize, not pick 7 instead of pick 9.

I love Justin Fields and think he is going to be a good QB. I woke up listening to the SCORE this morning and the sports DJ , a former Chicago guy, now working in Cleveland has made the best case for our QB situation. 4042-26-5. That is a good season for a QB. Alex Smith was a good QB and KC drafted Mahomes anyways. He sat him for a yr and then Mahomes got his shot. Poles came from KC. No matter how you want to look at it Justin , he is not going to be Joe Burrows, Williams has the chance to do that. You dont have to hate Justin Fields like half the fan base to think another QB can be better. The DJ used Baker Mayfield as an example, Cleveland drafted him to be the guy, he didnt make it but is playing well in TB. He thinks Justin will end up being better but isnt the QB that will take you to multile SBs. Justin will take us to 10 wins next yr but not going to the SB. Justin will get better but then you have to pay him 50 mil and the rest of the roster starts disappearing. The days of a great D and a good running game taking us to the SB are over. As you accept Justin , you just look around at your other options and try to tear them down to prove your point. Are we doing that with Williams? Or maybe Poles thinks its Maye or Daniels? I think he is in the best position to figure that out over us. I was using the argument that you have to develop him for a yr or 2 and then play him. Burrows took Cinn to a SB in his second yr and we have a better roster than they did that yr. I am listening to the draft Caleb Williams talk and still love Justin Fields. You can do both. If we get a 2nd round pick for Justin, Poles will trade him. Poles may talk someone into a first, he's lucky like that. If its only a 3rd, he may bring him back for one yr because he is cheap at 6 mil. I can see the scenario where we are winnng next yr with Justin and he gets hurt for a few games and Caleb plays and never gives up his job. Trade Justin at the trade deadline and then get a 1 for him. We should want Justin to win with his special talent (trade value), then we make the playoffs and live happily ever after. So if he takes Williams with the first pick, my best case scenario is we get Bowers with our 2nd pick. If that doesnt work there are a couple other special WRs in the draft. Nabers- Odunze. Poles brings in a center and another saftey in FA. Another DL would be great. If he takes a DL with the second pick. Newton, Dallas Turner, there are 8 WRs in the draft that would upgrade our WR room. He could trade back with the second pick , pick up a second round, and still get Bralen Trice or Jared Verse. Our first 2 picks have to be difference makers , weapon or pass rusher. LT is a thought but Jones is improved enough that I dont think he is redrafing positions, (Wright and Jones). There are a lot of guys in FA to get but , Poles is only giving out 1 big contract ( cap health), and that may be JJ. If thats the case, he may be bringing back Justin Jones and a few current rostered players. Another WR, Mooney wont be here if Justin is gone, he's just not paying one a big contract. I am a gambler at heart and sticking with 2 pair (Fields) is okay but Im going for a royal flush . ( Williams). If Poles thinks that Maye or Daniels, so be it.

To early to think about that, teams change a lot with FA and the draft, maybe trades.
