I'm not trying to trash him, I would love watching him. I just don't think the bears are going to draft him at 10. If he is available to them, I can see Poles choosing multiple picks in return. If we still didn't have several holes to fill, it would change the situation a lot. I think 2 players away from a competent defense. We need another weapon or two to maximize Johnson's offense. AND the OL needs more depth and a LT if that's a priority to you. I think we are one year away from adding a Warren or Jeanty to our lineup for final touches to a SB run. I could be off big time on my reasoning and 6 different positions could be our pick at 10.

Poles signing look like big contracts and then 1 yr later they look like bargains. Say what you want about player evaluations but he is managing the cap well.
-
I would like Hendrickson, Parsons, Crosby but the problem is , they come with 30+ extensions of which we don't have. Just draft one in the first and third and hope one of them gives you 10+ every year on cheap contracts.

I have to disagree, Johnson talked about weapons. Using several different backs challenges the defense more, keeps them off balance. In 2023 lions could have had BJan Robinson, instead they traded back and took Gibbs. Johnson was asked about that, and he said , we wanted weapons. I think they do want a pounder to use late in games as they have Montgomery, several could fill that role. I forget to mention before Damien Martinez as a RB that fits. Watch his tape, he runs over people. As much as Jeanty would be a great addition, he is not getting 90% of the carries in Johnson's offense. Of which I think drafting him at 10 is unlikely. Last year, Montgomery had 185 carries and Gibbs had 250. For comparison Bjan Robinson had 304 carries.

I didn't see this so I posted a separate post for it, not trying to supercede your news.

A no brainer just got done. It seems that Poles is making the right choices all the time. Let Jenkins leave Resign Gordon Let Allen leave
-
Obviously Jeanty is the stud RB in the draft but several that would be a fit on our team. I think he wants a power back for short yardage or a burner to go with Swift. Johnson, Hampton, Judkins and Cam Skattebo fit that mold. Speed would be Tuten, Brashard Smith and Jayden Blue. They're several others that would be good picks in this draft. I just don't think he goes Jeanty ( if available) in the first round. I'm intrigued by Cam Skattebo and probably could get him in the third round. He smacks people.

I agree with that. Many big name RBs don't get second contracts mainly before they want big money. Giants ( bad) balked on his 5th year that perpetuated him leaving.
-
I do mocks every day ( I'm a dreamer) and many of those names pop up all the time. I think if they take a second RB it would be someone like Jayden Blue that has true speed and have never heard of the WR before.

The article says his main position is LB yet in 2024 694 snaps were at DE, 30th in the league? Would Allen use someone like Pierce like this?
-
With the heavy workload he has had in college, I see him being a one contract player. Barkley didn't get another contact with the Giants. I prefer someone who has a better chance of being here 10 years.
-
Lions passed on B Robinson and traded back to draft Gibbs. Johnson doesn't want a load back he wants to run a versatile 2 back system.

I don't like any idea of giving up more draft picks but if Graham makes it to 7, that cost diminishes a lot. I suspect there might be competition for that spot if it did happen driving the price up. So it may not be doable. Please 3 QBs early May do it.

Here's a nice list of people we have met with and where they are projected to go
-
I agree with that. Any OL they draft will be able to fill in at guard but will be drafted as a LT since the IOL are here for 3 years if they resign Thuney.
-
The QBs in drafts always get drafted higher than their value. 3 out of the first 9 means someone drops. Or gives us a more valuable pick 10.
-
Does anyone listen to CHGO? They have a draft guy ( Fran Duffy) on every week and he appears very good with prospect evaluation.
-
Until he's signed, there's always the chance he doesn't. Greg Gabriel has the same agent as Thuney and when asked, Poles said we will get it done after the draft. I would say the same money as Jackson. He will draft a OT-OG anyways and if it doesn't get done, someone to fall in place at LG. Also a yr of Bill Murray being healthy may be next in line. He played well what little he played ( preseason also). It's hard to read minds of GMs. The draft will say alot as to what they expect to happen later. Let's say they take Banks Jr for competition at LT and Thuney doesn't sign, a lot of people projected Banks at OG, him or Kiran A moves over.
-
The argument makes sense but taking the best true LT in this draft may be a later pick in other drafts. It's not a great draft for LT but many good OL as most project inside. Thuney is expected to be extended according to his agent but later in the off-season. So you need to draft a LT. Campbell is a good player but looked at more inside than LT. Could he play LT, of course, but most teams stick players where they would excel the most. A starting LT, or all pro guard? No LTs in the league have 32 5/8 arms and 78 wingspan.
-
Many have said this. James Pierce is 6.5 and the same weight and is considered a good edge setter and run defender. His frame could probably handle 15 more lbs, at 260 would be doable. Micah Parsons isn't large but I never really people say he's bad against the run. Averaged around 65 Ts a a season.
-
Of course I have my own opinions but it comes down to what the bears decide so I try to pick their brains. I will probably totally be off base. In general the fans look differently at roster construction than Poles does. We're a couple weeks away from being surprised. Poles does that.

Good article. I don't think the bad year in LA affects him going forward. There will be aot of rushing to the right this year with Jackson and Wright.
-
I liked DT 2 but could easily be DE2 or OT2 . I don't think any other positions make sense.

With all we talk about with new coaches and new players, it still comes down to how well Caleb plays. I'm excited to watch him grow.
