There is no way I'd give up a 1st round pick.

Two different players. Both can be simliar deep threats, Hester can be a bit more of a threat in a slot position, but Berrian had much more size and physical presence to be a more legit/natural #1 WR where as Hester will have to use his unique skill-set to turn into a Steve Smith (much fewer #1 WR's like Smith than there are like Berrian/TO/ETC who have more size, albeit I'm not comparing Berrian/TO in any way shape or fashion). Plus its not like Berrian truly is that big. That said, this deal makes sense to me. Hester is getting the same as Berrian if he proves to be a #1 (Berrian is getting his regardless) and if he doesn't, than he's getting paid 10M less than Berrian, which to me is pretty fair cause i still think at worse (assuming health) he'll be a solid slot WR and a special returnman.

Again, I guess I see reason to be concerned since he's had the regular season history, but I still say its freaking training camp. I want to see him showing improved footwork, making good reads and throws. To me that is the key trait to being a successful QB. I just don't see how he could have gotten this far if he couldn't handle a snap.

It sounds as if Idonije added a lot of muscle mass and not necessarily fat so I'm guessing he'll still have pretty good quickness. I'm actually quite intrigued with the possibility of Indonijie as a full time DT. I liked him a lot as a pure athlete but with this increased size he could easily be capable of starting alongside Harris if Dusty doesn't recover or live up to his potential or if Harris is injured as well (Harrison is also a very good athlete). As a whole I think that gives us 4 solid DT's plus Toenai who impressed me the last couple games of the season.

I can't comment on Floyd since he's hasn't played a game, but it must be something when the team is penciling him as a starter.

IIRC, Clayton said if they looked the same it would be Orton's job. Basically Rex has to be the better of the QB's by a decent margin to win the job, otherwise the Bears will give Kyle the shot since he hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do in the regular season (not going to count his rookie season).

Great info on Stein Gunga. Also, welcome aboard

Hopefully comments like that motivate the Bears offense. They haven't proved shit and until they do the offense will take a lot of heat (deservingly so).

Interesting, I'm guessing we'll see a heavy signing bonus and a lot of money in the latter years but obviously its a 4 year extension so technically he's under contract for the next 6 seasons. I can't comment until seeing the money, but you got to really tip your cap to Angelo to be able to get all these deals done. I still think the Bears have some holes but they are a young team for the most part and I have no doubt Angelo will find a way to get this offense fixed in the next 2 years.

Are you guys seriously comparing Terry Glenn to other guys this team has on the roster. I realize he's had a serious injury and no one knows what to expect, but this is a guy who in 05 and 06 had over 1000 receiving yards and has had a total of 4 1000 yard receiving seasons in his career. This guy is loads better than every WR on the roster when healthy. The Cowboys have the ability to release him since they have Terrel Owens and Patrick Crayton (two guys that are pretty good already) and thus can allow a 3rd young WR to develop. The Bears have a shitload of unproven guys and I for one would be thrilled to have a guy like Glenn to go along with Booker to at least give you two solid veterans who Orton/Grossman can rely on (ie, guys with good hands and route running ability). Those two vets are not going to take all the reps so the Bears will still be able to give ample time to Bradley/Hester/Bennett.

Here's a question, If Grossman is screaming and pointing and not expecting the ball, maybe it was the center who snapped things early. I really am not concerned with a fumble this early. I know Rex has his history of them and its inexcuseable but this early in camp its going to happen and relatively often (Orton did it today). Plus Rex and Kyle aren't working with the #1 center yet either so they are both working with someone they are unfamiliar with. I'm more concerned with how the guys throw as opposed to who isn't fumbling snaps at this point.
-
The weird thing is I saw no comment of what Rex did today.
-
I don't think thats the case. Orton was said to have a solid arm in college, in fact strong, but the problem is he has a very long release and doesn't throw a good deep ball. He's also very inaccurate down the field. Rex is a far more accurate QB when it comes to medium and long range passes but Orton is much better at short range passes (and I think this has a hell of a lot to do with Orton being the big QB who can see over the lines and thus hit guys on shorter routes with far more accuracy). Regardless Orton has the tools with his biggest weakness being how long it takes him to throw the mid and long passes and his long windup is also inconsistent which effects the accuracy of such throws (he tends to both float throws that are longer as well as throw them short and into the ground).

I think you could make a case that Parker is better at this point of his career than Booker (given Booker is on the downside and Parker still has athletic ability). Still I like Booker a lot. It sounds as if the Browns are the early favorites to get Parker. Apparently he'd replace Jurevicius (don't know whats happening with Joe, but he's a guy I've always loved, perfect slot receiver).
-
Gotcha, I didn't realize you two were playing around.
-
I think the Bears see it this way, they've seen Rex start enough times. THey haven't seen Orton start a lot, so if both play the same in training camp/pre-season they'll give the nod to Orton since he hasn't had that opportunity. Now if Rex plays head and shoulders better and looks like a new QB, they'll clearly turn it over to him because when it comes to pure QB physical ability Grossman is better.
-
This makes sense. Hester showed how he is pissed and basically used a day holdout to show that, but has now reported and said hey guys, you know I'm serious about getting a new contract but I'm going to show up and play so back up your words and take care of me. Something will get done.
-
It was back spasms, which typically can last a couple day span so I'm sure its just precautionary.

Come on guys, lets keep to debating the issue and stay away from the personal attacks.

I don't quite think people realize the type of athlete the Bears got in Davis. This guy is a freak athlete for a tight end. I'm not saying he's as good of an athlete as Olsen (who is one of the best athletes at the TE position in the league) but he's at a similar level with a little less football skills (since he split time between BBall and Fball). I was thrilled when he was drafted because I think we'll see him brought along slowly initially but able to replace Clark a year or two from now, which will continue to give the Bears one of the best TE corps in all of football.
-
Kellen Davis had some nice catches. Both QB's appeared to making some good throws. Obviously its hard to judge based on film since we have no idea how often there were making good throws opposed to bad ones.
-
Whoah, Colston has proven a lot more at a more important position than Hester has. Yes, Hester is the most explosive return man in the game, but Colston has emerged as a legit #1 player who is much more involved in the day to day flow of the offense. I'd say all talks start below what Colston got in his extension and if they paid him the same or more the Bears are out of there freaking minds.
-
Parker is more proven than most of our guys but unless there is an injury I wouldn't expect the Bears to make a move. If a starter does become available I could see the Bears being willing to make a deal. But it would have to be a guy that they feel could step in and continue to improve and potentially develop into a #1 (and those guys don't exactly grow on trees). I also want to point out that I believe Parker is currently better than most every WR on our current roster.
-
I'm not as concerned with QB as most. I believe if you give Orton or Grossman solid offensive weapons we'll get passable play from our QB (possibly even better than that). However, given what they currently have I think its pretty ridiculous that we are going to be able to make much any evaluation on these guys (horrid WR's, unproven RB's, etc). Now if those WR's step up and Jones is healthy (Forte establishes himself) this could all change and we could really evaluate Rex or Kyle (Rex has at least had a couple seasons). I see WR as the biggest need on this entire roster. Look at all great QB's (or most) early on there career they all had at least one top notch go to WR. I realize a good QB can make do with mediocre WR's but they typically can't do that until they've developed (and its much easier to develop when you have a go to WR, solid running game, and good offensive line). In general I believe QB should be one of the final pieces to the puzzle, with the line's being the first pieces.
