  1. I am curious what people think of Pederson. On one hand - I get it, Nagy was his good friend and he brings similar system. On other hand I thought he was the jerk in Philly that rubbed people wrong way but I read some stories that basically said he was the extremely nice guy who got crapped on by the owner and Roseman for 4 years who finally got pushed too much. His offenses were pretty good with exception to final year and at some point he decided Wentz wasn’t his guy but got a lot out of him early in his career. Also played some role in Hurts developing and seemingly tailored his offenses (Wentz to Foles). That said I never know how much was Doug vs Reich and DeFillipo. I will also point out Doug did run the football a bit too. Hard to argue the success he had during majority of his tenure.
  2. The Bears have requested interviews with Browns VP of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and VP of player personnel Glenn Cook for their vacant GM job, per source. — Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 11, 2022
  3. List of candidates the Bears have officially requested permission to interview (I will update): Role HC Candidate Name Team Interview Date DC Leslie Frazier Buffalo Bills Sunday 1/16 HC Doug Pederson Ex-Philadelphia Eagles Wednesday 1/12 (DONE) OC Brian Daboll Buffalo Bills TBA OC Nathaniel Hackett Green Bay Packers Saturday 1/15 DC Todd Bowles Tampa Bay Buccaneers TBA OC Byron Leftwich Tampa Bay Buccaneers TBA DC Matt Eberflus Indianapolis Colts Monday 1/17 DC Dan Quinn Dallas Cowboys Late Next Week HC Brian Flores Miami Dolphins Friday 1/14
  4. Figured I'd make a thread where we could track who the candidates are that they have formerly requested permission, etc. I will update this shortly (but wanted to put it somewhere): Kwesi Adofo-Mensah - Browns VP of football operations Glenn Cook - Browns VP of player personnel Morocco Brown - Colts Rick Smith - Former Texans GM (retired due to personal reasons - in early 50's and coming back after his wife passed away from cancer) Jeff Ireland - New Orleans Asst GM & College Scouting Director; Former GM for Dolphins - infamously known for his pre-draft interview w/ Dez Bryant. Ed Dodds - Colts VP of Player Personnel
  5. I thought i heard Tua and Flores didn't get along and there might have been other rights. Flores might also be right, but that was the spin coming out today (but very much tainted and one sided). From a results perspective - I thought Flores accomplished a lot despite mediocre to poor QB play. I would say though that they didn't handle Tua very well at all. He was in games, than not in games, the whole Fizmagic to Tua, etc - definitely not the best / most seamless way to integrate a top QB into your team.
  6. Someone else was faster than me - looks like you are all set. Thank you to whichever mod did that
  7. It sounds like the lockeroom might have been a disaster.
  8. Let me figure it out - we'll make that change happen.
  9. Are you confusing Champ Kelly and Champ Bailey? But in general - as much as I here good things about Kelly, I'm looking outside of the org for the next hire at GM.
  10. Thought this was interesting - one because he is a really good candidate, but 2 the timing. Seemed quick given they are likely to focus on a GM first. The only reason you would want to fast track some of the coaches might be because there are a few you think you might move on before you hire a GM (i.e., Harbaugh).
  11. You are right - it isn't a huge difference, maybe you just get an individual in that president role who is more of an engaged adviser while the GM handles the real work (so think of it more from a workload/how much are you going to committ type of role). But to your point - it isn't done a ton in the NFL and certainly isn't mandatory for success. I get that fans are upset that Ted will be involved in the process - but to me - they got rid of the 2 main people they needed to plus directly shifted the role so that the GM is the football person (he doesn't report into Ted or anyone other than the owner, in this case George). I got what I wanted, by and large. Now they will probably get it wrong, but they did the right things today (whether they won the press conference or not).
  12. Phillips to retain his role; Owner responsible for hiring GM (not TED). GM will be in charge of football. This seems to imply we will see Bears hire GM -> than hire HC. Polian will partner with George on the GM hiring process. Note: Most good news - but this seems to mean no president of football ops coming.
  13. That was my thought - if the above was true - if anything it was a good sign of how they are thinking about it.
  14. The Chargers timeout forced the Raiders hand. What if Raiders ran shortly - Chargers call another time-out. Raiders now have to figure out - long field goal or punt and than the Chargers may pivot the other way. Either way - I really don't think the Raiders were going to kick a field goal from where they were. Too much risk of a block.
  15. I did read a report that Bears reportedly tried to lure Ozzie Newsome out of retirement for role with Bears (would have been amazing). They also evidently had reached out some feelers to Schneider (Seahawks front office) and the Steelers front office guy who is retiring. All 3 are obviously extremely experienced and big names - which maybe gives us some indication on what they are thinking. I will be curious to see if he mentions whether they will hire a president and a GM or just a GM too.
  16. I presume it will be pretty clear - we are going to move on at finding the best GM and HC for who we want, that George will be the person who handles this (with help of Polian and maybe others) and that the position will REPORT directly into him. I also expect he will give clarity around - he appreciates and respects Ted a ton and Ted's sole focus will be on the business side of football and the stadium (maybe he announces Ted will be retiring in future, but my guess he doesn't go there). I don't think he needs to say much - other than - I believe we have the franchise QB in Fields - but the interesting thing will be timing and how fast they move or don't move (do they get the HC and than find a GM who partners or will they go with the HC first).
  17. George will be having press conference at 11 (no Phillips there). Reports out there that the new GM position will report DIRECTLY to George. Also reports indicating Ted will remain in the org, but likely retiring in '23 (which I am perfectly content with giving the GM structural change (reporting to ownership) and George seemingly grabbing Bull by the horns this time.
  18. Both are good people and I wish them the best, but glad to see we are starting fresh. Now I want more - Ted needs to move out and solely focus on the other side while they bring in someone new to take over for him too:
  19. Well - Staley just called the dumbest time out in the history of sports there. He is now right next to Chris Weber.
  20. I think Bears actually tried to retain Staley but he wanted to go with Fangio where his loyalties were.
  21. Yeah - Johnson is good and other than that they had zero talent. He is a good, up and coming DC.
  22. The loss was nice in sense we get some earlier 2nd round picks and other rounds too.
  23. Jenkins looked good. Worst part of todays game was Borom getting torched in Q4. Like awful. But other than that - no injuries in final game. Let’s get to making changes and seeing the right moves made to change this franchise into a truly great franchise again!!!
  24. I am fine with Fangio the Dc, but Frazier, Quinn, and Todd Bowles are all much better head coach candidates (who posses strong defensive backgrounds). Desai is actually pretty good too - would be quite happy if next head coach ultimately decides to retain him.
  25. Yeah that was not good. The defense on the catch was actually good - just a good throw by Cousins but the non touch was not good. Glad Jackson was paying attention.
