October 19, 20196 yr comment_176464 The Bears may not have a star at TE, but looking at the league the cupboard is bare, and production has been mediocre. Besides Travis Kelce, Hooper, or maybe Zach Ertz, has any TE been producing consistently? There has been a rash of injuries at the position too. This might be why the Bears have 7 TEs on the roster and practice squad. This makes me wonder if Pace has recieved any phone calls inquiring on the cost for one. Would a 4th or 5th for Shaheen be a good move or a 6th or 7th for Braunecker? Or holding on to these players be more beneficial? Report
October 20, 20196 yr comment_176465 As much as we've thrown to TE this year, I'd say dump them all and sign some extra tackles, lol... Report

He's also running and catching much better. I'd hang onto him for now given all the blocking issue we have. If the Oline could hold up their end of the blocking to free him up more, or to give Trubisky more time we should get more production from all of our TEs. If someone really wanted to trade for Braunecker I'd take that deal in heartbeat. Report

October 20, 20196 yr comment_176476 I think with the malfunction of the offense, the TE has not been scheme very well. Its like having a V8 and it only running on 4 cylinders. As the OL becomes more consistent, the running gets better , the passing game opens up and the TE becomes relevant. Report

October 20, 20196 yr comment_176481 I think as the season wears on we’ll see more of Horstead and/Holtz. At TE I don’t think the answer is Burton any longer and it never was Shaheen. Report
October 21, 20196 yr comment_176514 Burton has a cap hit of 8.5 million for this year and the next two. I would cut him at the end of the year and move on. He's not worth remotely close to that amount. You still have Shaheen for this year and next on his rookie contract. Get him in the offense and get him the ball. You need to give him every opportunity to succeed. Peace Report

At best you put him on IR for the remainder of this season and hope he recovers and is somewhat useful next year. The earliest you could cut him is 2021. Report

Cutting Burton saves a whopping $1mil in cap space next year. Unless he never recovers from this injury he'll be back. He was productive when healthy, and he is the only TE on the roster who can say that. Likewise cutting Shaheen saves $1mil but I wouldn't do that unless/until we have his replacement signed. Again, a FA blocking TE is going to cost a similar amount so we might as well stick with Shaheen unless he gets bit again by injury. This spot has to get fixed in the draft. Report
October 22, 20196 yr comment_176547 Shaheen actually looked serviceable in this game, he had 2 receptions for 24 yards and a 2pt conversion that was actually a great jump ball grab and all hands catch over the defender. Report

I'm just pointing out you are not getting the value you need from him. IR might be the best option as he is not a contributing member of the team at this time. Peace Report

I feel we have no TE of any real value on the team. Burton is shot and Shaheen is a miss. Anything we can get for any of them is a positive. Report
