Listening to M&M this morning, the conversation turned to which playoff teams from last year would not make it this year. With that blowhard sitting in for Golic it was one screamer and one pansy with Chicago roots talking about the issue. Both agreed that Chicago will miss the playoffs. Strength vs Strength, Our Defense vs Their Offense I think this comes down to which Fitzpatrick shows up. He started to turn the ball over last week, which bodes well for us. However, Fitz has over double the passing yards than Trubisky in the same amount of games and only 6 more completions. 410 passing yards per game seems unsustainable, so Fitz should trend down from that high. Bears at home, favored by a TD, Lions coming in at 3-5 and having lost two straight. This will come down to which Detroit team and Matt Backwards Hat Stafford show up. This team beat GB, NE, and MIA (all the teams we lost to) and lost to MIN, SF, NYJ, SEA, and DAL. So I have a feeling that this game will be a little closer than expected. For the Bears, it marks a string of Divisional games that will ultimately decide the fate of the season. I was just thinking about what the Bears should do in the draft (same thought for a month now), and the more I think about it, a trade with Cleveland makes sense. Cleveland has two 1st round picks: #1 & #9. Cleveland needs a QB. Cleveland sucks on defense as well. Cleveland has a ton of picks and can move up. If they pass on Garrett at #1, no way he's there at #9. They won't pass according to this report. But the QBs are a different story. Familiarity with Fox, great age so you would feel more comfortable giving him the money, etc. Allows you to focus on BPA and really shore up a major need position in the secondary. Pair him with Mundy / Vereen and maybe Gholson (Ex 49 er safety who will likely be cut by Tampa).

Don't flame me. I figured I might as well throw this out there just as a conversation piece for a while since these are slow news days. This Incarceratedbob dude is a bit of a wack job, but surprisingly has been right on many things NFL the last several years. He called the Mario Williams, and the Peyton Manning signings well before they happened. He also called the Brandon Marshall trade before many of the major networks got their information. Apparently their was at least one significant incident that happened during a practice. Pure speculation but hadn't heard anything of it. I would have thought he was a natural fit in a 3-4. Than again, we have Ego and Sutton so maybe Bears want to go another direction. Sounded like the combination of the "incident" (maybe their were previous ones) along with his age and the injuries made him too unreliable.

I never considered Gordon or Gurley at #7, and don't think I would like it with all the other holes. However, I can see the reasoning: Forte is nearing the end of his career, has had a lot of touches over the last few years, has a decent cap hit, and really wasn't overly explosive last year. Considering all of that, it is still hard for me to see RB before the 4th with us having Forte, Carey, and Rodgers on the roster. Unless Forte was traded for a pick. Also, Fox has always seemed like an RB by committee type guy.

So I totally forgot about the 3rd WC slot (the same one the Bears slipped into last year). The difference this year is the 17th game. The extra game for the Bears was LVR, for the Vikings, it's the LAC. That extra game may end up being the difference in making the playoffs or not this year. At this point, if the Bears can survive to the bye, with TB, SF at home, and PIT (MNF) in the next 3, they have a much more favorable schedule down the stretch. Jeff Dickerson, on AM1000 this morning, reported Orlando Pace was ready and wanting to play last week. The coaching staff told him that Williams will be starting the rest of the year. For some reason, I did not see this in the paper anywhere. Dickerson said it was something they were trying to keep quiet. Peace

Apparently Brett Favre has asked for his unconditional release from the Packers. He wants to play again and my guess is he ends up in Minnesota. A year ago if this happened, I would have penciled him into Chicago but now with an unproven RB, young oline, and an unproven WR core I don't see the Bears as a very attractive option for Brett (albeit I still think it would be one of his top 5 destinations, given the strong defense and his familiarity with the franchise).

There are rumors Washington may be looking to move Haskins after demoting him to third string last week. He’s on a rookie contract for one more year(?). Any thought of seeing how he might fit into the Bears offense? Would Washington be willing to do a straight up trade for Trubisky? He had a 13-1 record in college while playing for Ohio State and finished third in the Heisman voting in 2018. Frustrating. For the second week in a row we've turned victory into defeat. This one was worse because you can't pin it specifically on one guy fumbling away his only two catches. This game came down to a few things: * Bad play calling and/or execution. We can't seem to gain those few yards we need on third down to extend our offensive series. So here we are, Week 3, with one undefeated team and one winless team. Even with that, the 0-2 Falcons start as 3.5 favorites against the 2-0 Bears. That just shows the lack of confidence in the Bears right now. Who knows which Falcons team or Bears team will show up this week. The Bears have now held on to barely beat bad football teams with a ton of injuries. It feels like this is the first true test for the Bears. The Falcons have faced the Seahawks and Cowboys, two really good teams, and the Falcons offense has put up a ton of points, but their defense looks bad.
