It was already considered a possibility, but w/ the report (from PFT) that Det is set to release Kevin Jones, that would likely put RB at or near the top of Detroits draft needs. There has been a debate on this board for some time between those who want Mendenhall and those who want OT. I am in the OT camp, but have to admit, I am not a fan of Mendenhal to Detroit either.

I have to start this giving Bear Sox a little credit after I read a comment he made... I'm sure at least some of you are Madden geeks, like myself. Heck, I'm so bad that I only own a system for only that game. Once I started playing in college, I couldn't stop. My question to those of you who are in need of help, like me, is do you do any of the following: 1. Update your roster to the latest team, creating whoever you need? 2. Play with the Roster as if you were GM and create your own line-up making trades, etc that you'd like in a dream scenario? 3. Go for broke and create either an all-time Bears team or the '85 Bears team? As there's not …

Supposedly Sirius Radio said Johnson was close to signing with the Bears? I can't find a site linking this rumor, but I caught it on other message boards. Wouldn't this be a pleasant surprise. Bryant Johnson to Bills, Bucs or Skins? Joel Segal, the agent for free-agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson, said Wednesday night that he is in negotiations with three teams -- not including the Bears -- and anticipates having a deal done by the weekend. Interest in Johnson, a former first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, had appeared to cool because of a high asking price. The only team he is known to have visited is Buffalo, though Tampa Bay and Washington are reported …

Hi folks It seems I created a bit of controversy a few days back when I moved one of the threads over to the NFL forum. As far as I was concerned, it was a signing by the Titans, it had nothing to do with the Bears, the Bears had never been rumored to be interested in the guy, and there was no reason for it to be in the Bears forum. From what I can gather, some of the people from one of the 2 sites we merged aren't used to the multiple-forum style that we've been using at TalkBears and at Soxtalk for a while, where we try to keep some sort of dividing line between the forums with posts flowing in both of them. After the complaints, I checked with some of t…

Search is on for another tight end for our running game Is this guy a better blocker than Gilmore? At 6-6, 270 pounds, he's bigger than Gilmore, so he is a big body.........but can he block is the question. We don't need him to catch just block. If we sign him and draft a Tackle and OG we might be in good shape on the line March 13, 2008 BY BRAD BIGGS bbiggs@suntimes.com The Bears began exploring possibilities to replace third tight end John Gilmore, entertaining Aaron Walker on Wednesday at Halas Hall. Walker is considered a solid blocker but less of a threat in the passing game than Gilmore, who rarely was sent into the pattern in anything but goal-lin…

This sounds interesting. Has anyone seen him play? Websites seem to differ on if he projects as a ROT or LOT. For the record, I have no problem picking a OT in the first and looking at Brown in the 3rd with one of our 2 picks. Linemen are so hit (Joe Thomas) or miss (Robert Gallery). Scouts say: Ryan Clady, Boise State I say: Duane Brown, Virginia Tech The skinny: Forget about quarterback, there are more busts on the offensive line than anywhere in the draft. Clady looks the part, but I’ve got reservations about his tenacity. Brown, on the other hand, is one mean dude. And that’s what I want on my offensive line: a mean dude with an attitude. Yeah, he’s not…

Is anybody else worried about our chances going into the 08' season. I am beginning to wonder what the Bears are thinking. I cannot believe that they truly think it is possible to find a starting LT, LG, WR, potential starting RB, and starting quality safety, not to mention a third QB and depth at DT all in one draft. Angelo has been sitting on his hands while potential quality at htese positions has been gobbled up in free agency and not every contract has broken the bank. I am still wondering why we have yet to make an offer to Olivea, or Eugene Wilson. Mike Brown seems to be hurt every year, and Archuletta is terrible. Danile Manning may become a good free safety…

Seems like it would make sense to make a play for him if he would come cheap. He brings some of the same things you had with Thomas Jones. He's certainly had his problems, but who hasn't running behind the Lions' O-line?

We all clearly have our idea of what we would like the Bears to do in the draft. But, unfortunaely, the Bears rarely do what we want them to, particularly in the draft. So, putting aside maybe how I WANT the draft to go, I thought I'd give a concerted effort to figure out how Jerry Angelo would want the draft to go. Here's what I came up with (get ready to hear the word "character" a lot): 1) Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt - Offensive tackle is probably the clearest need for the team, and the value in this draft is at OT. The fact that they let Ruben Brown and Fred Miller go without trying to sign replacements suggests to me they are depending on the draft for their …

Someone did an interesting poll with profiles for quarterbacks where you had to pick one blind. I thought it might be interesting with this batch of profiles I found. I'll post the answers sometime later: Prospect A: Sees the field well and plays with an aggressive mentality. Has a gunslinger mentality, a strong arm and a quick release. Throws with touch. Is accurate. Will throw before his receiver breaks and can hit receivers in stride. Does not lock on to receivers. Has pocket presence and poise. Is no more than decent athletically. Has played predominantly in shotgun formations and will have to learn dropback skills. Prospect B: Four-year starter who is a na…

McBride can feel like a 5th-round pick now Trumaine McBride figured all along he would be a fifth-round draft pick. At least he’s been compensated like one. The cornerback was the Bears’ biggest winner in the NFL’s performance-based pay system that rewards players for being on the field. The system adopted in 2002 provides the highest payouts to players who play the most and earn the least. As a seventh-round draft pick, 221st overall, McBride received a signing bonus of $55,250 for his four-year contract with a base salary of $285,000 last season. The payout received in performance-based pay? In excess of $200,000 according to two league sources, meaning McBr…

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that WR Darrell Jackson has been waived. “I always had a great deal of respect for Darrell as a player in the NFL," said head coach Mike Nolan. "I appreciated his dedication and work ethic during his season with the 49ers. He always had a positive attitude every day he came to work. While we are going in a different direction, I know he can still produce and be an asset to an NFL team this year.” Jackson joined the 49ers on a draft day trade with the Seattle Seahawks last April. Jackson started 15 games for San Francisco in 2007 and finished third on the team with 497 receiving yards and fourth with 46 recept…

On the website FootballsFuture.com there is an interesting article/post from a guy who likes to make this prediction every year entitled Projecting the 2008 Compensatory Picks. He is saying he projects the Bears will get 3 7th round picks. Interesting information on how the picks are awarded. 3 7th rounders would be nice. Every year there are players every team are rushing to sign because they feel they could be worth a tryout but were not drafted. This would give the Bears a chance on taking a flyer on 3 of those players without having to compete for them after the draft is over. Never know what you may find.
