In the next couple games, Forte could eclipse the 10,000 yards total mark for the Bears. Currently he sits at 6,748 yards rushing and 3.005 yards receiving. That's amazing considering he is only in the beginning of his 7th year and has missed a few games with injury.

This is the run that seals the game. Again, Conte is posterized but even if he tackles Jackson at first contact it is still a 30 yarder to win. In this one, we are in the Nickel with only Briggs and Bostic at LB. Mundy is on the TE and shadowing him in motion. Bostic has the QB and contain on the left. Briggs has the other gap. As Allen rushes and seals the right edge, Briggs shoots the gap on the other side of the Center leaving a massive hole for Jackson to run through. Briggs flops in the backfield unblocked (#2).

So I went back and watched the Kyle Williams interception (To hear the boos Alaskan alluded to, I'm sure there were some there but they certainly weren't overwhelming), and there is a part of it that isn't being brought up. I can't find it in the online highlights of the game but I rewatched it on my DVR and it's there (Perhaps Adam has it available)....... Martellus Bennett waves his hands asking for the ball before Jay throws it. Now I'll probably just be called a Jay apologist for saying this but after seeing that MartyB deserves some of the blame on that one. If I'm the QB and I'm scrambling then see a receiver with his hands in the air I probably make that throw…

Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 31m Given injuries on offensive line #Bears are expected to re-sign veteran Eben Britton per NFL source. Garza and Slausson to miss a few weeks.....Luckily I thought DLP and Ola played well.

I took a look as some important plays, went back and took screenshots to dissect and discuss the plays. This first one is easy, almost entirely on Briggs. Hard to fault and player, even Conte when a RB has 20 yards head start to run straight at you. Here are some pics showing the play: On #1 you can see the LBs in their correct gaps, and what looks like Briggs watching the handoff. However, on #2 he moves with Manuel leaving his gap wide open and there is Safety help creeping in for the contain on Manuel.

#1 Trips right, Jeffery stops and actually drifts back. Forte goes up the gut and into the flats. Marshall and Bennett stay in routes. Interesting to see the defenders bite on Jeffery and Forte and leave Marshall and Bennett. Great pocket throughout. I would've like to have seen Forte turn the other way and spread the defenders out more. In all 4 pics, Cutler is zeroed in on Bennett/Marshall. In #4 you can see he is almost "all arming" the ball.

Yesterday sucked. But I didn't see us losing that game until that botched long run allowed on D in OT. I kept thinking we'd overcome. Losing it sucked. There's tons of blame to go around. We've all touched upon those elements. 1. Coaching (bad play calling on O and D) 2. Execution (Cutler's stupid pick on 3rd and short) 3. Bad luck (Marshall getting stripped) 4. Poor management (Emery not finding a better safety or buying into an aging Allen) My takeaways are these: 1. If this is what we are, prep for an 8-8 season with some fun and not so fun games 2. If we learn from this, we can be decent. However, lack of consistent pressure from…

Was reading an article recently where allegedly Jim Harbaugh is "losing the locker room" in SF. This despite in his first three years he's compiled a 41-14 record. Allegedly one of the things that upset players was that he had the audacity to have the team scrimmage his brothers team this year in Baltimore. Of course there are a few other what appear minor issues the players don't like but I mean really? Is this not the pinnacle of self serving pathetic? On a team with a proven winning coach and they still snivel. Sounds like what happened with Singletary before that although his demand for winning didn't translate to nearly as many wins. (Do they just not like ex-C…

Offense… We have an oline, even without two of our starters. When Slauson went out and then soon after Garza I was worried how the backups would handle it. Buffalo's Dline is the strength of their defense and for most of the game, even with the backups, Cutler had time to throw and Forte had holes to run through, enough to get a 4.8ypc avg. Cutler was in control of the offense throughout. He must stop the boneheaded decision like the late INT but there is plenty of discussion of that in the other threads so no need to belabor the point here. Jay looked comfortable before the snap, calling protections, and when making audibles and making sure everyone was l…

In another post, I mentioned how I felt unsettled over the way last season ended and this began. I know why now. Our identity is offense while the defense retools. Problem is, the 2 people at the forefront of the offense are knuckleheads.(Trestman and Cutler) Both made bonehead decisions that compromised our ability to win. After that, we still had a chance to win in OT and our dynamic duo could not come through. This does not bode well for a the confidence of our defense. Blood is in the water boys and fins are present. This week is going to be huge. I don't expect to go in and win at SF, but we will need to be competitive to start building trust and confi…

I'd have rather had an AFC team beat them, but a loss on the Packers just plain makes me smile. Seattle looked damn good beating them. But, like every team...they have a weakness. We just need to find it. Or when we play them in the NFC championship, we need to just get lucky!

When, or if, Conte does a complete whiff on an open field tackle the same as HCD did last night to give up an easy TD what will be said about him? That was not Percy Harvin he missed, it was Ricardo Lockett and it was not some crazy move he put on HCD. I said before the draft that there were some "Major Wright moments" from HCD. He has the speed and fluid movements you want to see in coverage but the "highs" were mixed in with a fair amount of "lows" that were covered up by his rather good teammates. I'll be watching and comparing him to Kyle Fuller as their careers progress.
