There's a guy out there that I have had my eye on as a possible dark horse candidate to be the next WR drafted by the Chicago Bears. Given the recent signing of Devin Thomas, it's looking like the Bears are going to go away from a WR, atleast in the early rounds of the draft. This may or may not be the case, this could be a clever ploy at a smoke screen, but for the purpose of this topic, lets just assume it's not. This is a player that I think might be worth drafting in the 4th round or so, and just happened to be arguably the most productive WR in college football over the past 5-10 years. Ok, so I was thinking about our Left Tackle situation and thought I would take a look at the last five years of teams that made the Conference Championship games (20 teams) and see how many had a Pro Bowl Tackle. Out of the 20 teams, only 9 had a Pro Bowl Tackle, and one of those was an Alternate. So more than half of the teams did not have an Offensive Tackle (Left or Right) on their team that year. Going further, only 3 of 10 teams that played in the Super Bowl over the past 5 years had a Pro Bowl Tackle. Marshall may be a little high, but it is nice to see him projected there. I know it is not much, but it is nice to see Bears positional players in and around the top 10 (other than Forte).

it sucks to see other potential 1st round draft picks excelling (per Rotowolrd): The Bears were linked to Coples, Mercilus, Ingram, and Jones at some point before the draft. I really hope McClellin proves the doubters wrong, but right now he is sort of behind the power curve.

I was thinking the other day, "what would JA have done differently"? Trade 2 3rds for Marshall? Who wouldn't? Sign Bush? Yes Sign Campbell? No Sign veteran special teamers? That's in his wheelhouse. Draft McClellin? Maybe Trade up for Jeffery? Probably not Draft Hardin? Again his M.O. Draft Gonzalez? Probably not Draft 2 DB's with potential in the late rounds? No. He would have been slobbering over the measurables of the next Webb. Although they are not far off on methodology. Emery killed him with the Jeffery trade and Campbell signing. I'm just hoping the lack of OL attention will not come back to haunt. Again.

So with Hester and his "one dimensional" contribution possibly leaving Chicago, maybe a player like Sproles could be the replacement? He's multi dimensional (to include returning kicks) and is familiar to OC Kromer. Not exactly the 'change of pace' back I think most envision, especially with Bush gone. But maybe a good option as third down back behind Forte(?)

I need some feedback from our resident draft gurus. I did a bit of research on safeties in the draft and was surprised to see what appears to be a very thin group this year in terms of talent. I favor the draft analysis at the links below because their player profiles seem to be very accurate when guys get to the next level. If these guys are right, there are a couple prospects at the top and then the drop off is very rapid to day 3. There just doesn't seem to be a lot to choose from between Rd 2/3. This does not seem to be the right year to be going into a draft needing help at both safety positions. Maybe that's why we threw so many bodies at the SS position. …
