http://www.profootballfocus.com/articles.p...arc=&id=151 No. 25 -- Chicago Bears The Bears were one of the teams that had only a couple of guys play well, whilst the others struggled and left their offense dead in the water. The "couple of guys" in this case were center Olin Kreutz and right guard Roberto Garza, with the rest being various shades of poor. None was worse than Orlando Pace and it was a huge mistake believing he had much left in the tank (he didn't). By the time he was benched in Week 13, the Bears were already gasping for air. Amazingly, as poor as a right tackle as Chris Williams was, he may end up being a success story if he can keep up his late-…

I'm a little alarmed how the Bears haven't found an OL in the draft yet...perhaps they already knew they were going to look at FA's.

So apparently Brian Billick has invented a new stat, and it actually looks pretty smart. He calls it the "Fox-Tox Rating" (which is sort of a dumb name, I admit) and it's basically a composite of turnovers and what he calls "explosive" plays (runs over 12 yards or passes over 20.) It's basically the differential in turnovers (turnovers created on defense minus turnovers committed on offense) taken together with the differential in big plays (big plays on offense minus big plays allowed on defense.) It's apparently a good predictor of success: a good Fox-Tox rating correlates very well with winning and making the playoffs, and a bad one correlates well with losing. …

Yesterday I spent my annual trip to Bear's TC on my B-day. I have just a few points to make and I'll keep it short. 1. It was hot as Hell yesterday and I was wondering how these guys could practice in this intense heat for 2 hours. 2. The most intense groups working out at camp are the offensive and defensive lines where the only skirmish of the day occurred and the sound of the pads hitting was the loudest from these groups. 3. Julius Peppers is a very huge man and looks bigger in person than he does on TV. 4.Greg Olsen worked out with the WRs when the offense was working on running drills 7 on 7 while Clark, Davis and Angulo worked in the running drl…

I admit since I have Sunday Ticket, I overuse my DVR and have recorded not only all the games but this last week's NFL Networks episode of the Green Bay game. All told I've probably watched each game a minimum of three times. Anyhow my point in question format is, what is the deal with Todd Collins? Looking at the Chicago Bears website he is listed as the #2 behind Cutler. Yet what bothers me is that each time you see Cutler on the sidelines in between Offense possession he is sitting with Hanie going over stills and talking strategy. In almost everyone of those shots I never see Collins nearby. In fact I have seen him in a few shots hanging out by himself. What gi…

I am saying this tonight as I was predicting with friends in the offseason. Brett Favre will quit during the season. They will pull some injury BS or whatever, but he's done and goes out tarnishing a stellar career. ____________________Where it all started _______________________

www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-1015-dan-mcneil--20101014,0,4337913.column chicagotribune.com Bears bungled O-line from the start Knowing it was a weakness, they should have pushed the linemen harder in training camp Dan McNeil 8:39 PM CDT, October 14, 2010 As the Bears scramble for ways to keep their knocked-loopy quarterback vertical, it's laughable coaches are being praised for "adjusting." Guys with whistles are being termed "flexible." I think a better word is desperate. Slap 'em on the back if you want, but all I see is the rearranging of deck chairs on the Titanic that is the Bears' offensive line. The nine fir…

Id like to see something get done. This is the most obvious need for any NFL team as I see it.

They picked him up off the Cardinals' practice squad, cut Barry Turner to make room for him. When Johnson declared for the draft, some scouts he might end up as a right tackle in the long term, and others thought he'd have to stay put at guard. He's listed as a guard, but he'd be one of the biggest guards in the league - he goes 6'7" 360 pounds (or more.) Either way, it'll be interesting to see if Tice can turn him into anything, although I don't think he'll make any contribution this season. Johnson may be another long-term developmental guy like Webb, but at least it means the brass recognizes that there are problems up front. And if their strategy is to take…

I'd have to check to see for sure, but it occured to me how fragile our position maybe really is. Had Detroit been given the win on that end zone catch at the beginning of the season, we finish with the same record as GB, meaning GB probably wins the tiebreaker and we have to get a wildcard, which we would have lost to NO's better record and the Giants who destroyed us head-to-head. In other words, that one call was the difference in us missing the playoffs/Lovie maybe losing his job and our sitting pretty against the Seahawks in Round2. A game of inches indeed. Again, I'd have to check to see for sure because in that scenario, but GB and the Bears would have the …

The Bears may have home advantage when it comes to the crowd and the weather (against some), but they certainly don't have home "field" advantage. So far this year, at least the following people have ripped the garbage turf: -Cutler: "...worst field in the league..." -Urlacher: "The footing at Soldier Field has been horrible." -Olsen: ""You don't have to be a scientist to know that grass doesn't grow in these conditions. It is what it is." (In other words, "WTF can I do about it? No reason to complain.") -Desmond Clark: "...cow pasture...one of the worst fields in the NFL and there are no excuses why the Chicago Bears, of all teams, should have to play on suc…
