Here is part of a comparison of two names linked to the Bears. Overall Potential Ogletree: The potential is there for Ogletree to not only be one of the best ILBs in the NFL, but overall one of the best LBs in the league. He is one of the most physically gifted athletes I have studied in quite some time. He can fly around the line of scrimmage in pursuit of ball carriers; you can use his speed and quickness to rush the passer either from the middle or outside. In coverage, Ogletree patrols the middle of the field like a ball-hawking FS, showing the ability to make a play on the football. You can match him up with a big, athletic TE and feel comfortable that…

Things are a bit slow as we wait on the draft. I found this article on Favre's last hit and thought some others might like to read it. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-f...ded-his-career-

Trade down and get a lower 1st and a 3rd 1. Larry Warford, G, Kentucky --A guard to pair with Slauson, to go with Schwenke/Garza and Bushrod. Not bad. 2. Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State --It seems like they want a young CB. Some thing Slay > Banks. 3. Brian Schwenke, C, California --Who doesn't want this guy? 4. Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech --If it weren't for legal issues, he'd be knocking on round 1's door. 5. Sean Porter, OLB, Texas A&M --LB depth. 6. Sean Renfree, QB, Duke --A young QB to develop; a lot of scouts are high on him.

So I was bored and decided to take a look at 10 different mock drafts and see where players were being projected. This would give me at least somewhat of a clue for who will be there at #20. Here is what I came up. The following 10 players were selected in the top 19 in every draft, and I have to assume that none will be available at #20 (ESPN Grade): Luke Joeckel, OT (97) Eric Fisher, OT (96) Lane Johnson, OT (94) Chance Warmack, OG (95) Geno Smith, QB (91) Ezekiel Ansah, DE (95) Dee Milliner, CB (95) Barkevious Mingo, LB (94) Sharrif Floyd, DT (97) Jarvis Jones, LB (93) The next 8 were in 80-90% of the mocks, so it is unlikely that t…

These are not players you will see drafted in the upper part of the draft. As I read more and more about prospects, this is my view on sleepers. Akem Spence/DT from Illinois- he is athletic, 72 tackles as a senior. a mid round pick that will eventually start in the league. Terry Hawthorne/CB from Illinois- good size, good speed 4.44, 60 tackles, 8 PBUs, 3 int.. I think another Illini prospect that will contribute and could start in a year or two. Gerald Hodges/LB from Penn state-The team leader played really well with 109 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, seven passes broken up, one forced fumble and two interceptions in 2012. Decent size and speed. K…

Another cool site with a decent article on QB valuation: http://overthecap.com/value-pricing-the-nfl-qb/ They said Cutler under-performed and is worth between $8-$9 million a year. To me that seems about right.

I don't think we will but we still need another backup QB. The Cardinals had four QB'S on their roster after cutting Skelton and a few teams have three to five. What if we could sign J.Russell....cut from the Raiders.....hey...he will come cheap, has starting experience, is now back on rack and hungry to play and is a big man to bring down like Big Ben........so what say you?

So I was reading some articles on NFP, that linked me to Draftmetrics, here are the articles: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Late-r...to-success.html and http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Studyi...-NFL-Teams.html Some great info and analysis, checkout their site here: http://www.draftmetrics.com/ Some of the take-aways, based on Big school vs Little school drafting, the Bears are almost dead on league average, where teams like the Seahawks and Saints almost exclusively draft from a BCS eligible school. The Bears drafted over the league average from the Big-12, and less than the league average from the ACC. For the entire league, here is the p…

So we still need help at the G,C,QB, DT, LB and WR positions California C/G Brian Schwenke is scheduled to visit the Chicago Bears today .......and the Bears are one of two teams that have shown the most interest in free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell, we just signed defensive tackle Andre Fluellen, defensive end Kyle Moore and center Taylor Boggs. And we are bringing in Brown LB as well.....so this makes for and interesting draft. If we are filling all the spots we need help at then it maybe a playmaker at WR or CB with the first pick we have,,,but with the moves we are making...who knows right?

I've been thinking about all the recent chatter about if the board could be smarter than a GM (or let's say as smart as). Now there are far too many aspects of a GM's job for us to sit here and say we got it...from FA, to staffing levels, scouting, knowing the inside details of player's behavior, details on injuries, etc. However we can approximate the one area of most interest these days...the draft. This is some long term thinking here for those who have been with this board for several years. I believe we can build our own draft and save it for future evaluation. After the draft the board is usually quiet. This off-season I propose we take on the challeng…

I think all the OL people we would draft will be gone. I think we would like to draft Austin and he will be gone. I think the players that drop down to us will be DE/DT types, but I think Trufant is ranked right around our pick in the big boards I have been looking at and think he will be our pick. This is not the player, I would like, that would be Ogletree at this stage but, think with his off field problems, we let him slide. There is a real good chance we move down but for sake of this thread, we pick Turfant/CB.

Emery mentioned about adding playmakers to the team. I think Forte was not used properly last year and I think Trestman will do a better job of that. I think Bennett adds a lot to our offense. Jefferys gets better and you cant beat Marshall(he s a stud) Were not going to grab a RB in the draft, and I doubt very much if we draft a TE, so if we find a playmaker if will be at WR. I think the only 3 WRs that will turn into impact playmakers will be Austin, Patterson, and Woods. My first choice would be Austin, which could possibly be there for us in the first. Otherwise Woods could be there in the second, if we choose to go that way. SO WHAT DO YOU GUY…
