As a Bear fan for many decades, it's hard to recognize the current process going on! A GM trying to build a team carefully. With all the free movement going on Brian Poles has been controlled with everything he does. I OTOH am so used to the quick fix approach now that I forgot about how Jim Finks built the first playoff team since 63. That took about 3 years and he had the same focus of building through the trenches, like the current GM. So I have to remind myself to wait for the process.

You have to admit that this game was ours. Turner lost it for us not just the players. Fourth and one and you give the ball to McKie? Here we have a 6'7' TE sitting on the bench a 6'5' TE on the field and you do not even think about the bootleg roll out pass to either one? You are in the red zone and you use neither one of them...Turner you are a dumb OC and need to go.

The epitome of mediocrity 1. 6-6 record, 16th overall ranking on defense, 23rd overall ranking on offense. It doesn't get (much) more tepid than that. What's especially disturbing,however... 2. Nothing like waiting for final roster cuts with a 4th pre season game coming up where no starters will play. So here are some random thoughts on the upcoming season: Eagles defense is bad. Chip Kelly offense not so thrilling to me. There has been a ton of hype but I've watched Oregon's offense for years and every time they played a team that matched up to their athletic ability they struggled. The NFL, save for a few teams, is fairly balanced in terms of athletic ability. Tyrann Mathieu is currently on NFL AM and wow, I don't know what to think of him. He admits he only benched 4 reps at the combine because "his focus was on keeping a tight circle, staying off weed and having a 4.4 40." The issue I have with that is if he has to use so much of himself to just keep normal friends and stay off an illegal drug, that situation is rough. Another issue I have is that he put that put focus into a 40 to run a 4.4 and still couldn't. Mathieu also claims he had to be told a couple times to stop and still didn't. We've all talked about the need to add speed to our offense. At 43 there is a good chance Jonathan Taylor is on the board. He ran a 4.39 forty and that speed shows up on the field all the time. You constantly see players grabbing air. Or he just runs them over with his power. If we can't solve our QB problem, and there is little reason to be highly optimistic on either Trubisky or Foles, why not do what the Ravens did with Trent Dilfer: Run the ball behind two good RBs and let your defense do the talking. Of course Nagy will have to find a way to call a running play. I know there are concerns with run blocking but Ifedi is actually a very good run blocker. …

In terms of improving the team since last season, have the Bears not had the best offseason of any team in the division? GB has actually lost a lot of their depth and some key vets (Williams, Hawk, House, etc). So even though they re-signed Cobb and some others, at this point they are slightly worse than last year. Detroit has taken a massive step backwards losing Suh and Fairley and only gaining Ngata (who is older). Minnesota had a slight upgrade going from Jennings to Wallace, but the biggest swing will be in regards to what happens with AP. Players are dropping like flies, but fortunately not people we were chasing. We need to add a free safety even if we draft one in the first three rounds. We have no depth there. Phillips is still out there, the best rated among the free agent safeties. Also Sean Jones has got some good reviews which has to be better than what we have. Phillips has been a SS but has played the free safety when he first got in the league. The problem is these guys will be gone if Jerry GM is waiting to get a good money deal from them two. Also do you think we could bring some CBs in and move them or Graham to FS? Bodden/Lions, Bartell/Rams or McFadden/Pitsb are still out there to be had. …

Read about this guy anywhere and you'll see: (Walter, Bucky Brooks, CBS, NFL.com, the list goes on and on) -Elite power -Great run defense -Unbelievable agility for his size -Surprising pass rush ability -etc. Everyone loves this guy. His high school highlights are more comical than maybe anything I've ever seen. What do you guys think of him as a potential 3-4DE?
