http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,6270139.story So, I'm thinking: Floyd Mercilus Coples Then who? Probably at least one DT (Brockers probably). Other DEs probably, but would it be: Ingram? McClellin? OT? I wonder if guys like DeCastro or Kuechly might be on their board (I would assume not, since they are unlikely to be available). Maybe Kirkpatrick? Guess we'll find out in a couple days . . .

Continuing with Lucky's recent research, the folks at ESPN (more specifically Grantland) have produced some interesting stats as they relate to the draft. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/785360...-truly-valuable It's not all that surprising in some regards, but it does back up the concept that some positions are safer to draft in the first two rounds, and some have higher bust rates. TE is the safest in the first two rounds, and OL is the second safest. Similarly, no position other than QB drops off in production like OL does after the first two rounds. There are always reasons to debate data like this - we've probable covered them all - this is…

We've spent a lot of time on mock drafts that we like, disagree with, like partially, etc., but has anyone put together a bizarro draft? Put together the worst draft you can imagine. Think of the players you hate, the ones that have question marks, the guys that don't fit the Bears' schemes. Slot them appropriately and then draft. For instance, my nightmare draft starts off like this: 1) Stephen Hill, WR, GT - The guy is raw, unproven, has very minimal tape or stats, played in a JV offensive system in college, and is a combine warrior who has flown up draft charts. That's a collection of red flags. 2) Zack Brown, LB, UNC - Head case, lazy, disinteres…

I have digested so much information, I need to make some comments before my hair turns completely blonde, and I become confused. I think the Bears want to draft a DE in the first round, with choices in order,Coples,Ingram,Merculis,Jones, Perry. There should be one of them there at that spot, so what will change that. If Reiff drops, I think they like him a lot and will draft him, leaving DE for the second round. Choices for second round: Branch, and Curry, I think in this situation they take Branch. The possiblity exists Jones may drop so he would be the choice. If Cox or Brockers drops, I think stong possiblity exists they grab one of them, and go back…

I know it's a bit off the wall but what if??? Saw today that Mike Wallace does not intend to sign his tender with Pittsburgh. How about a trade with Forte? The Steelers need an RB and the Bears need another "flashy" WR opposite Marshall and me thinks Wallace would fit the bill. Just sayin.

I am sure some have read this article on the Sun-Tmes website, but for those who have not you might want to check it out. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...c-approach.html It basically explains differences on how players are graded in the system Emery uses, an off-shoot of the "Patriot Approach" It will probably come into play with how he selects players not only in FA but the draft. You can certainly see how his FA this season was effected by his past experiences with this system. Basically, he wanted to go into the draft without huge needs making him select a players for need instead of BPA. I suspect that is exactly what we are goin…

I certainly appreciate everything that Hester has done for this team - he's been the only aspect of this team I am consistently excited about. However, given the league changes that minimize the impacts of a returner, the Bears' apparent dissatisfaction with him as a WR (evidenced by the additions of Thomas and Weems, their focus on top WR prospects, and that he had his lowest receptions since his rookie year last year), and the fact that his contract is up in 2013, would you consider trading Hester if the right deal came along? I'm not sure what that would be (3rd round pick maybe?), I just look at the way last season andthis offseason has unfolded, and wonder how expe…

below are some statistics i compiled for the old board about 8 years ago and i have updated the information to date, pre-draft 2012. it lists all players drafted in slots 1-20 in the first round and how they compare to obtaining a quality player drafting in these slots. feel free if you wish to copy this information for your own records but please acknowledge where you got them from as it was an incredible amount of work putting this together. thanks, Lucky Luciano my conclusions after looking at the statistics below i know i am not so sure i wouldn't consider trading up EVERY year into the top 10 if you want the odds on your side with selecting a qual…

I have read an article about Jared Crick /DE/Neb. He had two productive years until last year when he tore his pictoral muscle. As a 3rd round pick he could be a great valve, since they say he had a first round grade until his injury. Also he could slide in to the 3 tech tackle spot as he has played inside before. Andre Branch/Clem/DE in 2nd or 3rd. High production senior season, long armed, non stop motor. good speed. Jack Brequette/AR/DE at a 4 th or 5th rounder has good size, non stop motor, stength and 10 sacks senior season.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...il-could-slide/ I don't see it happening but... What if Kalil falls out of the top 10? What would it take to move up 8 spots and would it be worth it to you? Please no bitching about the Bears winning the last game in this post...

Don't quit your day job! He sang the 7th inning stretch and sounded as if he was tone deaf. He also mentioned that he originally wore number 85 his rookie year and changed to 80 because he liked Jerry Rice and he felt 80 fit him better. Since he was basically redshirted his rookie year I never remember him wearing 85.

This is a bit of blend of what I want to happen and what I think will happen, based on my review of Emery's drafts with the Chiefs and Falcons: 1) Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina - I think he'll slide and I think we'll take him. Makes a ton of sense here where one NC lineman with motor concerns can learn from another. 2) Jeff Allen, OT, Illinois - The Bears' comfort with LT turns out to be a bit of a smokescreen. Allen has been moving up and is known as one of the best pass protectors in the draft, just what this team needs. Plus, Emery has a history with Illinois linemen (drafted Jon Asamoah). 3) Brian Quick, WR, Appalachain State - Emery loves big W…

Were getting close to the draft so everybody want to have a say as to who they want and who they think the Bears will pick. It has to be somewhat realistic, like Claiborne, the qbs, the rb, one WR, the LT wont be there. There is a possible one someone dropping but not who I mentioned. For me , it would have to play out but would like Kuechly to drop to us. He is a stud, 532 tackles in three years. He would continue our Legends of LBers we have been lucky to have had, even thou we have more areas of need. Who I think the Bears will draft would be W. Mercilus/DE/ Ill. I think they like him a lot and the other couple of players they may want will be gone.
