RAMS CHOP CHAVOUS Posted by Mike Florio on February 13, 2009, 3:33 p.m. The Rams have parted ways with safety Corey Chavous, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Chavous, an eleven-year veteran, spent three years with the Rams. He started 43 of 48 games. The move came days after Chavous’s agent requested that the player be released. Chavous previously played for the Cardinals and the Vikings, starting every game in Minnesota over a four-year career there. Per Thomas, the moves creates $1.2 million in cap space.

With a ton of holes and FA about to begin.... I want Chris Brown ( C) and Stacy Andrews (T) Also on the list would be Leanard Weaver (FB) and Eugene Wilson (FS). Just puttin it out there. I dont count on Andrews to do much...but the return on investment would be great if he can return to form. As far as Brown goes...we could use an established OL that is big enough and tough enough to kick Pat Williams butt 2 times a year. We'll have the cap space and should use it somewhere...this would be my pricey addition. I would still pick OL in the first round in this scenario but then begin to add some developmental weapons around an O-Line that can help out…

Could the Chicago Bears gain from Tampa Bay's losses? By Vaughn McClure Looks like firing Jon Gruden wasn't the only house-cleaning going down in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers released five veterans, including star linebacker Derrick Brooks. Remember, Lovie Smith used to coach the linebackers in Tampa Bay and Brooks was one of his favorities. More intriguing are two Bucs set to becomes free agents at 11:01 p.m. on Thursday: receiver Michael Clayton and safety Jermaine Phillips. Both are far away in contract talks and would upgrade the Bears at their respective positions. The Bears seem content with what they have, but a tweak here and there sure wouldn't h…

Not that the Bears were making any effort to go after Stinchcomb, but damnit anyway. The only offensive-tackle available that would be an upgrade over St. Clair is Khalif Barnes. Here's the article from PFT: With Florio covering all the stories you care about, let's get caught up on the ones you don't. The Saints have agreed to a five-year deal to bring back right tackle Jon Stinchcomb. Once considered an injury-prone second-round bust, Stinchcomb turned his career around in 2006 under Sean Payton. After starting no games in his first three seasons, Stinchcomb has started 48 straight since. The somewhat surprising move means that former Jagua…

I like to think we're not going to wait until after the draft to just sign players off the scrap-heap. Here's some guys who are still available I hope like hell we're thinking about trying to sign: Byron Leftwich: What the heck happened to him anyway? He was supposed to be the best free agent quarterback available, and I haven't even heard a rumor about him other then he might resign with Pittsburgh. He's proven he's a good back-up and he'd definitely keep Orton on his toes. Khalif Barnes: At 26 years old, he could be our starting RT for the next 6 years. I'd like to sign him AND St. Clair. Jared Page: At 6-0, 220 lbs, he's considered a big free s…

This is a guy that a lot of people had pegged at points in his career as a guy with star potential. He never truly emerged into that and he had some off the field problems this past season, but as a whole he's the opposite of any WR's we have. The guy is a beast of a target with good hands and he seems to be a very good red zone target. He clearly is a step down from Holt, but again would be a significant upgrade over anyone the Bears had at the WR position last season. He's also still young enough that he could in fact have a few 900 yard plus seasons in him.

Here is a good article from the Sun-Times, if anyone hasn't read it yet (especially if you are one complaining about our FA) it is a good read. You may not agree with it but I do. The Bears are not the only team playing the waiting game in FA. Even the Packers, who had a miserable year and are trying to retool their defence to a 3-4, has only signed one player in FA and he certainly was not a household name. None of us know what is planned, but I would be willing to lay a wager with anyone who wants to do so that we will see our needs filled before the start of camp in July and that we will be a force in the NFC this year. Free agency isn't where Bears shop

Of course, we all probably knew he was gone, but it appears that the Browns want to make it known. Maclin to the Browns Don't you wish every team before the Bears would do this so we could just get down to debating about the left over players?

Seeing as JA loves to grab off the chart DBs here's a guy who might be on his radar if we don't go FS in Rd 2. I'm sure many would be thrilled to have another drafted player changing position if he comes to the Bears. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Ati8...o&type=lgns FS DeAngelo Willingham, Tennessee (5-11, 217) No prospect in this year’s draft class has endured the type of roller-coaster ride that Willingham has been on since September. He started the year as a mid-round cornerback prospect and was ranked by Blesto and National scouting services as a top-20 senior corner. Willingham’s knack for the big play and timely hit early in the 2008 sea…

Per PFT: "Sources: Bills Shopping Simpson Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that the Buffalo Bills are looking to trade free safety Ko Simpson before this weekend’s draft in New York. The former fourth round draft choice has complied 143 tackles and 2 interceptions in three NFL seasons. The Bills have been active in the past week. On Friday, Buffalo traded away Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters to Philadelphia in return for multiple draft picks and are reportedly shopping wide receiver Roscoe Parrish and defensive end Chris Kelsay as well." Simpson's a young guy (still only 25) with plenty of potential, who could be had…

This draft seems realistic to me as far as the Bears view players and needs. 2-Johnson/DE/Georgia Tech 3-Beckwith/LB/LSU 4-Barden/WR/Cal Poly 5a-Turner/WR/USC 5b-Hamlin/FS/Clem 6-Brewster/OT/Ball State 7a-Fletcher/CB/Iowa 7b-McCall/FB/Ala They view defense a priority, they think they can get DBs in later rounds, and draft a couple of WRs.
