Now has 48 receptions for 622 yards and 5 TDs on the season. That is the most for a Bears TE since Kmet's 719 in 2023 (on 73 receptions). In the Super Bowl era, Dikta, Dewveal, Bennett, and Kmet are the only TEs in Bears history to have 650+ receiving yards in a season. Desmond Clark had 626. Loveland is having the 2nd best season in Bears history for a rookie TE, only to Dikta's 1,076 yards and 12 TDs in 1961 (in 14 games which is insane). Loveland also has a +43.2 REC EPA, 3rd to only McBride and Kittle. McBride has 161 targets, Loveland has 69.

This mock has the Bears going Donald, Joyner, McGill. That is 2 DBs and one DT in first 3. Ilike Donald and McGill but Joyner in RD 2 doesn't excite me.

There was some discussion after the Giants game about how ineffective we were on runs up the middle but it was hit and miss. They only have 24 players with a 1st round grade (I thought that was interesting). Here are their 1st round graded players, I was surprised not to see Vander Esch, Davenport, J Allen, and Sutton listed (all 2nd rounders). It would be nice to get any of Nelson/Fitzpatrick/Smith in the first and then someone like Davenport in the 2nd. The TV crews camped out at Halas Hall awaiting the return of Cedric Benson, but the Bears’ running back did not meet his stated goal of rejoining the club’s offseason program today. Benson was absent for the voluntary workout program, a teammate said, missing for a second day after his arrest Saturday night on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas. Jeremy Langford was released by Baltimore today. That didn't last long. Since Howard has a shoulder injury and Cunningham a knee, should the Bears reach back out to Langford? Can a free agent be signed to the practice squad or does he have to be on the active roster? He knows the offense and if Howard shoulder doesn't improve, Langford can step in and be at least better as a receiver. If we can sign him to the PS, I am for it.

Yes there has been much talk about what or who we need to draft in the draft &FA but the bottom line is this....Defense wins championships. Now dont get me wrong we do need to have firepower on the offensive side of the ball too, along with the WR and line to match, but our main problem is the cover two system and the lack of cover guys in it. We are good at stopping the run but our pass defense is pitiful to say the least.Someone said on the board that we can not just sit in a cover two zone and allow WR to just catch the ball then tackle them. Start with the Oline, Carmi remains an injury problem, Webb doesnt take a step forward. Forte holds out until the season starts and starts slow. Cutler, because of the Oline, doesnt get time to take advantage of the WRs he was given. Marshall ends up being suspended for 4 games. We still dont have a pass rush. The DBs suffer because of no pass rush. Urlacher has nagging injuries that keeps him out of games. With all negitive things (and all wont occure) we finish 7-9, 8-8 and Lovie keeps his job for one more year.
