http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/11/if...ot_miami_f.html If not Chicago, why not Miami for Hester's record? By Neil Hayeson November 16, 2010 7:33 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0) Devin Hester prefers to break the NFL record for kick return touchdown at Soldier Field. His second choice would be in front of friends and family in the city where he played college football and near the southeastern Florida community of Riviera Beach where he grew up. Sun Life Stadium, where the Miami Dolphins will host the Bears on Thursday night, also happens to be where Hester returned the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI 92 yards for a touchdown, which he considers the biggest highlight of his five-year career. Dolphins coach Tony Sparano isn't saying whether his team will give Hester the opportunity after he scorched the Vikings for 147 return yards on Sunday. "We'll see when we get to the game," Sparano said. "The game plan is probably to try to sneak a three or four extra [players] out there on the field against him and see if we can have any success." Hester tied Brian Mitchell's NFL record of 13 kicks returned for touchdowns with an 89-yard punt return in an Oct. 17 loss to the Seahawks. When and where he will break the record has been on his mind ever since. It's also been on the minds of his teammates on the punt-and kickoff-return units as well as something that coach Lovie Smith chose to discuss with the team. "We realize where Devin is, and [that he has] a chance to do something that no one has done in the history of the game," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "All the players who are a part of those return teams realize that too, that they can be a part of history too. "And we want to get it for him. We don't talk a lot about individual goals, but this is one. We want to get that record for him." Hester had been primarily a punt returner for the past two season but it was decided that he would go back to returning kicks when receiver Johnny Knox, who also returns kicks along with safety Danieal Manning, played more snaps than Hester against the Bills. Hester returned two kickoffs in a 27-13 win over the Vikings on Sunday at Soldier Field. His first kick return since since the 2009 season opener came in the first-quarter and netted 32 yards. In the third quarter, he returned another 68 yards to set up a field goal. He also averaged 23.5 yards on two punt returns and was named NFC special team's player of the week. "When got in the huddle for the kickoff return, he said, 'Meet me in the end zone for the celebration,'" special teams coordinator Dave Toub said. "That kind of lifts everybody up, when they hear that coming from the returner." Hester said being on the field with 10 teammates eager to help him break the record means a lot. "At the end of the day, I'm not going to say that I broke the record," he said. "I'm going to say [we did it] as a unit."

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,3462831.story Brian Urlacher wouldn't bite when asked about a personal milestone he'll likely reach Thursday night. But as someone with a sense of history of the Bears, and specifically their middle linebackers, he knows what it will mean when he passes Hall of Famer Mike Singletary to become the franchise's all-time leading tackler. Urlacher has 1,484 and needs only four to overtake Singletary, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection. So what does it mean for the 32-year-old Urlacher, who's in his 11th season? "It probably means Lance (Briggs) is going to pass me in a couple years," he said. Briggs is fourth on the list with 1,081 and trails former safety Gary Fencik by 21. But the gap between Urlacher and Briggs would require at least three full seasons to close. Briggs, 30, is signed through 2013, one year longer than Urlacher. Urlacher leads Briggs in tackles 71-60 this season, but Briggs missed nearly two entire games with an ankle injury. "(Urlacher) is out there every day," defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said. "He's consistent. The guy is a great pro. "It's not just numbers. I don't think numbers define him as much as what he brings to the defense: leadership, toughness and consistency. He plays at such a high level." The Bears did not begin keeping tackle statistics until 1971

I hear ya!

Then wait until that point of no return comes, and not a second before...

Grrr....I will officially not agree, but I understand. I say let him wait, even with a Super Bowl win... Don't let him hold this franchise hostage ever again.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...the-week-award/ Devin Hester wins NFC player of the week award Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 16, 2010, 5:40 PM EST In case you missed it, the old Devin Hester is back on returns for the Bears. He returned two kickoffs against the Vikings for 100 years. He had a 42-yard punt return. He even threw in four catches and a 19-yard touchdown. Hester’s work on returns earned him NFC special teams player of the week. “Devin has it going right now,” said coach Lovie Smith. “Guys are doing a great job blocking for him and he’s feeling it as far as thinking he can go the distance each time.” Hester returns home to Miami Thursday, where he’ll try to set the all-time record for most career return touchdowns

For the love of Payton and Piccolo, Smith shouldn't be given an extention in ANY situation! Even if we win the Super Bowl! He's got another year on his contract. We can do a 2 year high price deal if he still looks good after that. He freaking owes the McCaskey's and all the other buffoons for not firing him years ago and having to work for the Bills!!!

The Panthers game was a fluke. If Forte doesn't break 2 completely uncharacteristiclly long runs that were somewhat broken plays, Todd Collins gives that game to Carolina...

Believe you me, I'm the last person that wants to praise this staff for anything but a resignation letter... But, last week's game was solid and fun. It was a whuppin'. It could have been by a lot more if we didn't have to settle for some FG's and a bonehead Cutler end zone pick. I'm not even remotely convinced this staff can keep it going, but for a game last week, they earned the win and deserve credit. It's a divisional win, against a team many were calling much better than the Bears (Vegas had them favored), and it was a win agasint Britfar... For, at least 5 days, I'm going to feel good!
-
Yeah, if Melton is going to continue to get better, this could get really fun!

I'm just going to run with the explanation that Favre is a jackass. That works for me...

If it's involving the Cubs, assinine isn't somehting I'm surprised by.

After a day of pondering the game... 1. Hester is such a joy to watch! So glad he's back taking kickoffs like so many of us have been screaming for... He is a difference maker there. 2. Cutler had a big boy game. He made a bad mistake in the red zone, but made up for it with pretty much flawless decision making other than that. The playaction to Kellen was a thing of beauty. 3. The D looks good. They are oportunistic. Pretty much the pedigree that Smith was hired on. I still worry about the big gaffe by the safteies that led to a TD and a PI. I still would like a little more pressure on the QB... But overall, these guys are playing good defensive football. The LB crew is just on fire. I still fear the Tampa 2 in the long run, but right now, it's fun to watch. 4. The coaches did a good job yesterday. All of them. Even our normally abyssmal HC. I temper that with all the horrible games they've called this season. But, if this is a trend, it's going to be an interesting run up to the playoffs. 5. I wantred to hurt Favre more. I was sorry we never got a really good lick on him. But, as my freind stated after the game..."We hurt Farve. Maybe not his body, but at minimum, his feelings." I'll take anything that is a negative for Favre. 6. I watched the game with minimal stress. Other than the Cutler pick in the red zone, the team played well and prettymuch led the whole time. I never really felt worried that the Vikings were going to win. I was lulled into positive thinking by a decent running game and passing... Even watching some medicore OL play. Remember, mediocre is better than putrid! I worry the big win will go to their heads, and after a short week, MIA could be a trap game. They were in 85 and in the 2006 run... But they are banged up bad. So, if we can call a good game, play smart, and get a little more Devin love...I think it's winnable. Bottom line, this was a fun Sunday!

Yeah, Melton was a real surprise!

Brian Urlacher wants to deliver knockout blow to Minnesota Vikings By Sean Jensenon November 11, 2010 2:25 PM | Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0) Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher recognizes that his team has a unique opportunity Sunday at Soldier Field. The rival Minnesota Vikings are coming to town, and the 3-5 team is desperate for a win. Does he want to bury the Vikings? "I hope so," Urlacher said. "I think 3-6 would be tough to come back from. The NFC's wide open but it'd be tough to come back from that. "That said, it's going to be tough to get them to 3-6. They're playing better, they came back and won in the fourth quarter, but we feel like we can do it." Besides, the Bears aren't doing all that great, either. They are 5-3, but they've got a tough run of games coming up. "We've got to get on the right track and piling up some wins if we want to make the playoffs and win our division," Urlacher said. "Especially home games. We're 2-2 at home. We've got to be better at home." Urlacher said he's got a lot of respect for Brett Favre. "He knows what we're doing every play. We're not going to fool him very much. He knows where to go with the football, he's got a good running game behind him now. He'll still give us opportunities," Urlacher said. He takes chances that you like as a defensive player but sometimes he makes those chances pay off. So we've got to be ready to go." Other thoughts from Urlacher: * On Adrian Peterson: "He's like anybody else. He's a running back and when he gets the ball, we have to tackle him. He's done well against us in the past. We've played pretty well against the run this year overall." * On being physical with Favre, but legally: " 'Legally,' of course. We try to get there every play. We had a lot of hits last week on Fitzpatrick and the ball was gone. We hit him a lot and hopefully we'll do the same thing this week, legally, and make him realize we're going to be around him all day." * On Favre, in general: "He's the guy I've played against the most in my career. He was in Green Bay however long. I didn't play him last year but this'll be my 20th game against him so he's the opponent I've played against the most. It's a big challenge every time you play him because he doesn't quit. It doesn't matter what the score is or the situation in the game, what the records are. He never quits. He's always going to try to win the game no matter what, no matter how much they're up or how much they're down."

I don't see a need for him...unless we nabbed him to get inside info on the cheap. I try not to hold that against you!

Sad... I love Jimmy Mac... I went to the reunion event, and he seemed on top of his game. He was by far, the most entertaining and boistrous part of the event!

Brilliant post Lukcy!!! Spot on!

He's been fair at defense. He got the job due to the Rams having such a potent offense, that his D could gamble and get turnovers. That he has done here. I'm not so sure about developming players... Briggs could have been a stud anywhere. Borwna dn peanut...yeah, that could be credited. Johnson and Harris were bounced off the team and have flourished elsewhere. Not sure he deserves credit for that. ...and you are really saying he's a good D coach. To me, that's not good enough to be a HC...

The last ST guy that was a HC here won a SB.... I have no problem with Toub what so ever...
