Bowman back
Kudos to Lovie for helping make Tim Jennings a better player and the job he did with the defense during his time here. Too bad he was absolutely pitiful at finding an offensive coordinator or doing anything to make the offensive side of the ball better. This is why he is gone. Peace

Bears best move is the one they didnt make
If he talks about giving a hometown discount, which I believe he had (could be wrong), then what he was previously paid obviously has everything to do with what he will be paid after you factor in things like age, skill level, etc. I desperately want the Bears to win a Superbowl. If that means Url never plays a down again for the Bears, that's fine with me. If he does, great. If not, oh well. We'd have won a Superbowl. Peace

Slap in the face? Angelo gave him an extra year in the middle of his contract. He has been treated extremely well by this franchise. I don't what he has told his agent. I think that once he realizes he's not going to get 4 to 5 million a year, he's going to sign with the Bears. Peace

Your perceived value of him. He has been paid handsomely to be the face of the franchise. I say a hometown discount is not going from 7.5 to 5 million a year. Given what he has been paid in the past, given his value in the Chicagoland market from an advertising standpoint, given his current level of ability, I say he is worth no more than 2.5 million a year. Hell, I would say give him a bonus million if he plays all 16 games after the fact. Peace

Of course, anyone who doesn't want the team to overpay for Urlacher hates him. Give me a break. Peace

Urlacher talking to Queens
This 100%. Peace

Urlacher talking to Queens
Do not pay him more than 2.5 million a year to stay. He was a great player in his time but he is 35 now. His skills are obviously diminished. 2 years max. Peace

Bears & Url talking...
Agreed. 5 million a year is way too much given our cap space. He has been paid handsomely by the Bears over the years. A hometown discount is not 5 million a year. I would say 2 to 3 million is a hometown discount. Peace

Is Hester about sign a contract extension?
You missed one point - he is on the wrong side of 30 now. Peace

I trade down and get myself a third round pick. Peace

Johnny Knox released and retires
They don't need to add to that position before they address the issues I outlined. They can address WR with a cheap FA or a 5th or 6th round pick. However, If they do not address o-line then Emery should be fired. I am tired of watching Cutler get beat like a dog year after year. Peace

Johnny Knox released and retires
If the Bears want to become a dangerous offensive force, they need a real offensive line and a real TE. WR would be my last choice to address on offense other than RB which does not need to be addressed. Peace

Johnny Knox released and retires
Cutler has Marshall, Forte (who is a great receiving back), Bush, Jeffrey and Bennett. Weems is fine as a #5 receiver. I don't mind adding a receiver once the other positions I have identified have been addressed. Peace

Johnny Knox released and retires
Offensive line has to be the priority. Cutler has plenty of tools. Get him some blocking. Peace
-
Johnny Knox released and retires
I absolutely do not see WR as a position of need on this team. Oline, TE, linebacker, dline all come first. Peace

Johnny Knox released and retires
Good luck to Mr. Knox. Peace
- Extend Cutler?

Hester wants a fresh start
His last return for a TD was November of 2011 (he had 3 that season). Peace

Urlacher speaks
Sure there is a gray area but do you think most of the team's wanted to let their old stars go? Of course they would love to have them retire with the team but they also want to sign them for a reasonable amount. I'm sure the players, in most cases, overvalue themselves and that is why they move on. Peace

Jason - you never did answer my question. "What's is the team supposed to do - keep them as long as they want to play?" Peace
-
Urlacher speaks
So what should they pay him? Whatever he wants? He has to be willing to accept a huge pay cut to stay IMO. Peace
-
Urlacher speaks
I don't mind keep him around but I would not pay him more than $2 million a year for 2 years. He was been handsomely rewarded by the Bears and I think a nice hometown discount is in order if he wants to stay. Peace

You don't win by keeping a player for sentimental value. Professional sports teams know when it's time to move on. If the player doesn't know it's time to retire, what is the team supposed to do - keep them as long as they want to play? Ridiculous. I didn't said league minimum - I said somewhere around league minimum. League minimum for a veteran with over 10 years of experience is $940 k this year. I wouldn't pay him more than 2 million a year on a 2 year deal to keep him (much closer to the league minimum than his previous salary). Urlacher made millions playing for the Bears. If he is not willing to give a big hometown discount to stay with the team then it is time to thank him and move on. Peace
