Dec 4th, Bears vs SF play by play: Coin Flip: Bears win the toss and elect to receive 49ers kickoff from the 25 yd line, Deonte Thompson makes the catch deep in the endzone, hesitates, takes the ball out and gets tackled on the one. Hmm...odd? 1-10 Fox yanks Cutler as he tried to take the field. Matt Barkley marches out and is in shot gun formation, takes the snap in his endzone and trips almost intentionally. Safety 49ers. Score is 2-0 Bears kickoff and surprise the 49er's with an onside kick. McManus catches the ball on the bounce and runs the ball backwards and runs out of bounds at the 1 yd line. 1-10 Barkley falls in the endzone again for another safety and the score is now 4-0. Bears kickoff with another onside, but SF is now prepared. They recover and refuse to win the game so they lateral the ball back to keep from being tackled until the can get out of bounds near their goal line. 1-10 Kaepernick takes the snap from and decides to kneel in the endzone. Safety Bears 4-2. This game of safeties continues until these teams start to figure out ways to help defend from making the team score. Like fumbling in the endzone and tackling the opponent on top of the ball to give them 6 points. The Bears end up losing, 38-30 and will have the 2nd pick in the 2017 draft. The game at first was an embarrassment to Goodell who was in attendance, but then he realized how exciting it was watching the fans cheer on their teams to lose. On that day, a new concept was introduced to have a playoff for the bottom 10 teams to compete for the draft order. The format was to find ways to make your opponent score like that Dec 4th game.

Don't make me dream of Utopia, it is not fair. Already picturing the Honey Bears on the sidelines and Ditka and Butkus leading the team out of the tunnel riding on black unicorns. Since Cleveland has two first round picks, it is not completely impossible...throw in Fuller if you have too.

I agree, it is not an attractive draft. It is a Fanspeak automated draft using CBS Sports board and I was using last weeks team determining needs. I had the teams need list as: QB, CB, OT, TE, S, DL, WR. I think defensively, we have a good front 7 and if we can upgrade the backfield with better coverage we should see more sacks/turnovers. I am torn on the QB's because not one stands out as a sure thing. Trubisky, Kizer, Watson, or Kaaya are the names leading the pack. Is there a Russell Wilson/Dak Prescott in this draft that slips through the cracks? I am leaning towards Luke Falk as that guy right now but he might be more of a David Fales for all I know.

Another player that may have an open door to shine is Marquess Wilson WR. Hard to believe that he is the same age as Kevin White. This is his contract year and hopefully he gets back on the field soon so he can get some game tape for possible suitors if the Bears opt not to bring him back.
-
I would prefer Eric Kush play his spot over Larsen. See what we got going into next season at least. Anyone know what curse is put on the Bears health? I would eat a goat if it ended this.
-
He was CBS's Sports top QB last week, maybe that will change. The Bears are heavily scouting all the top QB prospects though and I think they will do well on selecting the right guy when the dust settles. I am scared it cost us somehow if we have to trade to get that guy.
-
I can go with that. After the Buc game and seeing two more Olinemen drop, finding a solid swing tackle that can be groomed into a future starter seems pretty important.
-
The Bears will not fire Fox with his contract. He will be given at least one more year. Plus, they are throwing games so they can draft Cutlers replacement (wink)

The Bears are now halfway through the 2016 season and are currently sitting on the 4th pick for the 2017 NFL draft. As of today if the Bears were picking now, this would be my draft. I did go heavy in the Defensive backfield, but that is were the Bears are the thinnest today. I would like to dip a little higher on another OT, but followed a fanspeak mock and none of the prospects interested me when the picks came up. 1. Mitch Trubisky QB NC 6-3 220 - I have seen arguments about going with an instant impact player like Myles Garrett, but a high first RD pick makes more sense to get the QB to develop for the future since you get that 5th year on contract. Trubisky may be taken #1 overall but fell to 4 on this fanspeak cbs mock. 2. Adoree' Jackson CB/KR USC 5-11 190 4.42- One of the top cover corners in the draft which happens to be available in CBS's 2nd RD. Jackson is a playmaker with decent speed and should be able to crack a starting position right away. 3. Jourdan Lewis CB Mich 5-10 175 4.52 - The Bears get another steal at CB with Lewis. His size really hurts his draft status as he needs to get stronger for the NFL, but this kid covers like no other regardless how much bigger the receiver is. Lewis will see a lot of time early playing the slot in nickel packages. 4. Eddie Jackson Ala 6-0 194- 4.59 - Deep FS that can cover, formerly played CB. Can redshirt while his broken leg regains strength. 4. Jeremy Sprinkle TE ARK 6-6 255 4.70 - Sprinkle is more known for his blocking, but has shown success as a receiving threat also. 5. Julien Davenport OT Bucknell 6-7 315 - Wildcard LT prospect has great length and athleticism but poor technique which can be improved on if he is willing to work. 7. Ralph Green III DT - Ind - 6-4 320- Another big bodied DT for rotation anywhere on the front NT/5T.

If the Bears stay on course, they can get over the hump. It takes time to draft and develop. Sure, having higher picks can help speed the process, but you have to draft the right guy either way whether picking 1 or 10. Give this team two more drafts and the talent should be looking good. The Bears may win a few more games this season or not, but there is no way they lose intentionally.

Nice work!!! Going off this, I think a draft going QB, CB, and OT would be a great start. 1. Mitch Trubinsky QB 2. Desmond King CB 3. Tyrell Crosby RT 4. Dave Jones S If they think a top tier QB falls to RD2 1-Jabrill Peppers S 2-Brad Kaaya QB 3-Cordea Tankersly CB 4-Julien Davenport LT Or if they get a chance at Myles Garrett OLB who would be a luxury or a guy I like in our scheme is Malik McDowell DT 6-6 285. Could you imagine Hicks, Goldman, McDowell as your front 3. Floyd/McPhee/Young/Houston/Acho would have a hay day on the outside and Freeman/Trevathan would be clean.
-
We have something special here with Howard. He is looking like a piece you can build around. If you can get the running game going, the entire offenses job gets easier, especially for the QB like Cutler/Hoyer/Rookie.
-
Just seen that Norv Turner, OC Vikings, just resigned today. Pat Shurmar TE coach will take over. See how this goes for the Queens.
-
I think he was told to do that and not take a chance of fumbling. They had their hands unit out there anticipating an onside kick also.
-
As impressive as the offense has been, have to give the D it's props.. Floyd is building off the GB game and improving. The young DBs bend but not breaking.
-
AJ and Cutty getting it going now.
-
Lately, it looks like Alshon has checked out. He is not on the same page tonight

If they are reviewing their process up to this point, I am ok with that. Using all the resources available is not always bad. If they are having second thoughts, then they are jeopardizing the start of a process that takes more than 18 months to fulfil. Fox had a tradition on turning teams around by year two, but I don't think he has had this many injuries to work with either. This firm they have hired will probably tell them what most of us see and discuss which is they are on a decent path if they can stay healthy. I am not sure I can take another gm/coach dump. I can see firing the OC after the offseason, especially if they can take a QB early to build around.

Two QB's that may be rated high are playing today

Good match up! I wouldn't mind doubling up on QB like Wash did. Take a flier on a top prospect and grab someone like Luke Falk if he is around round 4. -
The Bears would be better off tagging him again to be honest. Give them another year to prepare for life after him if they can only get a 2nd. Starting to see Philly and Tampa as teams maybe interested. AJ would love to go down to Tampa, warm weather.
-
I like a lot of Gregs information. He pointed out Deandre Hall to me and I was happy the Bears drafted him. Hopefully he gets healthy and can get back on the field. As for Trubisky, I have been hearing a lot of good things on him too. Haven't done too much research, but seems like a legit prospect. I think we will be talking about him often as the season gets dimmer.
-
The more options, the better. Wentz and Goff passed early draftnik favorites Connor Cook and Christian Hackenberg, will have to see this one out. Still think Kizer has the right tools, but Ws mean a lot to me too.
-
Philly only has one first round pick from the Sam Bradford trade. They traded their pick to move up for Wentz last season. They would still trade that for Alshon I would assume. I would be torn. The Bears are depleted of talent and do not look like world beaters making first round picks so far (too early to tell yet). So would the pick be as good or better than AJ? With Phillys pick looking like it will be a very late pick, I would also like more cmpensation as said earlier. A 1st and 3rd may sway Pace.
-
Very well could but then he is a free agent and any team wanting his services and I imagine there might be one or two, will have to negotiate a new contract with him. After this season, there is a two year window were his contract is very appealing. 16 and 17 million with little or no dead cap if cut. Take Osweiler and his contract over those same two years is 19 and 21 million. Dead cap space is 34 million! Not that I would want Osweiler to be our QB, but it could net a high pick for freeing them of his contract. Also they have a good if not great D when healthy and explosive offense if they had a decent QB.
-
Cleveland I can see a 3rd, they are going to draft a QB also, so they wont be giving away any of their two first rds. Houston though is 4-2, leading the AFC South trying to make a push in the playoffs. They may see Cutler as a Bradford type that can get there with Hopkins,Fuller and Miller at RB. They can dump Osweilers contract on the Bears which is costly until after 2017 so a 1st could be possible. 1-2 Deshone Kizer QB 1-24 Desmond King CB-Dereck Barnett OLB considered but think CB is a bigger need. 2-34 Tyrell Crosby RT (best in the draft) 3-66 Jordan Leggett TE 4-100 Jarron Jones DT 4-108 Kevin King CB- 5-135 Julien Davenport LT -small school LT prospect Getting healthy and staying there is our biggest factor.
