I think the leadership, IQ, and performances on the biggest stage weigh in heavily when grading a player. Most NFL scouts and GMs hold off on grading until the season is over because one bad/good game can change that grade and in Watsons case he gained points. Looking down the road, would you feel better having Jonathon Allen with Hoyer/Barkley/Kaaya or Deshaun Watson/Hoyer with (Bullard/FA signing C Campbell or K Short) at the DE? The Bears can wisely spend that 80 million in cap space and buy a DE, but are limited on choices at QB. I am anxious to start a new chapter of life without Cutler, so my thought process is a little biased.

This is how I see Pace and the Bears drafting right now in the early stages as my prediction. I am a little worried about his size and throwing the ball up for grabs, he tossed a few during the championship game that made me cringe.

Once again, the board is active with draft buzz. I went back and read many of last years posts to get a laugh or felt impressed with some early insight. Early on was doubling up on ILBs, DBs, and linemen. A lot of talk about staying BPA also. Once we got closer to April, some were shocked to see QBs projected to go top 2 as it was thought the class beared no first rounders. With that in mind, what is your early bold or daring predictions the Bears do in rounds 1-3. Give us something to look at a year from now. My take: 1. DeShaun Watson QB - I have Myles Garrett going to Cle and SF taking Kizer for some odd reason if they hire McDaniels and he takes a more pro ready QB. Watson will be a project to transform him to the pro style, but his leadership and skills is the keys Pace wants in a QB. 2. David Njoku TE Mia- talk he could be the first TE taken but has little game experience. 3. David Sharpe OLT FL- protypical LT size, was a 2018 high first rd prospect that can push Leno.
-
The Bears are still very high on Bullard (6'-3" 285) who is basically the same size as Jonathan Allen (6'-3" 290). I heard Akeem Hicks evaluating Bullard and said he is coming along, it takes time to transition from a different type of D. I think eventually he will be the guy they thought they stole in the 3rd RD. I wouldn't be disappointed with Allen, it is more of a luxury when you have bigger needs to fill like QB and DB's.
-
I am with you on this. The Bears will have 60-80 million to spend on FA's. They can buy almost every need except QB. If Pick #3 is too rich for any of the QB's, maybe trade down some and gain an extra 2nd or 3rd RD pick.
-
They would be trading pick 2-34 for Garappolo in this.
-
No, I put a scenario start to the draft with CLE taking Garrett and SF taking one of the RBs. SF may hire McDaniels as HC and he may want Garappolo as the QB. I had them giving their high 2nd RD pick for him. That leaves the Bears with the choice of QB, Allen DL, or room to trade down.
-
I think there are 2-3 options, maybe one is worth our pick. Jimmy G makes a 4th option which I think SF somehow gets him if they hire McDaniels as HC. If that happens and Cleveland takes Garrett, then we get first choice. 1. Myles Garrett CLE 2. Leonard Fournette/Dalvin Cook SF (trade 2nd for JG) 3. What to do? Allen, QB, trade down.
-
Good thing there are 3 QBs projected to go R1 right now, that would make it easy on Pace taking a decision out of it. Little humor... Seriously though, they might need to trade down to 5 ahead of NYJ or 9 ahead of Buffalo if they want QB and there are options available. Nearly every need can be filled in FA except QB.
-
I agree. Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, or Jabrill Peppers would be nice options if we didn't have a glaring need at QB. If Cutler came through as a mid tier QB, I would be all over the S or CB class as top need. We wouldn't be sitting at pick 3 if that was the case and we would be inline to take one of the top DBs.

Players will rise and fall on the draft board. I think Kizer will rise by April and between him and Trubisky one will go top 3. Drafting a QB requires a commitment to have everything available for him to succeed. Coaching, play calling, blocking, receivers that know their routes with hands, and running the ball often.

FA #1 - Calais Campbell DL - massive size 6'8" 300# can pass rush, hold an edge. Bears still think Bullard can develop, Campbell gives him another season to groom. FA #2 - Eric Berry FS - experienced center fielder to lead young guys. Bears Safties all seem to be tweeners SS/FS FA #3 - Tony Jefferson SS - Promising young stud. 1. Deshone Kizer QB - has the size, arm, iq. Like Luck vs RG3, Kizer played pro style O. ND was a mess, his stock took hit 2. Desmond King CB- a 1sr RD talent should fall, CB or S. Picked CB sinc I had us taking two S in FA. 3. Chad Wheeler OT-watched a little tape today, wasn't impressed to be nfl LT. Didn't like his feet as a pass blocker. Maybe as RT. 4. Devonte Fields OLB 4. Kevin King CB 5. Kendall Beckwith ILB 7. Speedy Noil WR

Not worth the price. Small thought what the value of the #3 pick is. The #3 pick has a trade value of 2200 points, NE's entire draft class RDs 1-7 doesn't add up to 1200 total points. Nearly two whole drafts if NE drafts around 30.
-
Not sure why draftniks have been down on Kizer. I think he should edge out all of the QB prospects. His WRs did him no justice from games I watched. I think come April, he will be back at the top.
-
I think this will help tremendous. They picked LeBlanc off of NE bc they got a good look at him.
-
You are correct. I was thinking they had to decide before the new NFL year (March 9), but they have until Sept 10. This may be able to net us something more than a basket of dirty towels. Only need a Bridgewater like deal to happen before week 1.

Funniest part about this, Matt Miller was one of the first to project Leonard Floyd to the Bears in January 2016. Most other mocks had him anywhere from pick 20 to the 2nd round. Floyd wasn't on anyones radars until after the combine because of his measurables, not because of his production. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2604402...jection/page/12 http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/20...quon-treadwell/ http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/mock-drafts/...zierlein/275603

http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index...acks_picke.html He might want to double dip on the position to better the odds. This article puts perspective on those odds to succeed picking the right guy. I forgot Cade NcNown only made 15 starts. One way or the other, they need to draft a long term solution and hopefully theentire organization is on board to do this correctly.

I think Pace is safe. Fox on the other hand will be on the hot seat next year unless there is improvement. Pace was given a 5 year deal and Fox a 4, which indicates he will be given another coaching hire if Fox fails. The Bears are not too far off as competitive as they been with a 3-13 record. They played most of the season with backups and had chances to win alot of the games. I really don't see this Joe Allen getting picked round 1 to be honest. More likely it will be Trubisky/Kizer if they do go QB. I would be fine going D (Garrett/Jon Allen) RD 1 and QB RD 2 also.
-
I could go with Jefferson at SS and Johnson CB. Short at 5T would be sweet as Bullard comes along. Trading down would be great, Robinson is a for sure top 15 talent, scouts are not sure if he projects better on the RT though in some reports but start him off at LT. Hooker just declared today, thought he might stay another year. He may be a top 15 pick also, would be a great in the 2nd. I am not big on Hodges as a 2nd RD pick, he lacks blocking and is more of a WR. He reminds me of Funchess that Carolina took. He would make a nice red zone target, so depends on if other TEs are available. I would think Leggett or Engram may be around at the top of the 3rd. Kaaya in the 3rd is fine, he was the early on top qb prospect. His inconsistancy under pressure hurts him, but is great with protection. With better coaching, he may be able to fix his issues. The Bears will obviously plug some of there biggest holes before the draft, which will give them freedom to take some talent we may not key in on. Hopefully Pace can repeat his 2016 class.

Barkely might be our only option. Hate to see it, but it will either be him or Hoyer. Cutler is a slim possibility, but I think his door is closed here. It is ok to take a QB in the first and start him off holding the clip board and hopefully at some point get him under center before seasons end. The draft shouldn't be about day one starters, but about starters long term. QBs rarely are NFL ready and the way college football is now played it is harder to find one. They have to select a QB between picks 3-36, they are up against the wall. As for Joe Allen QB, I am sure by the next mock draft version it will be someone different, he is throwing a name out there and seeing what sticks.
-
Watson has some good qualitys too, I envision him as Russell Wilson in a way with the ability to create plays with his legs and as leader. I am not sure he is a top 20 player though. All the QBs will be raw and not NFL ready imo, but eventually you need to develop one. It would be great to trade down to 10 and get Kizer or Joe Allen if he declares.
-
It will be interesting come draft day. Having that QB need sucks because you can really add some great talent if you didn't have that glaring hole. If only Cutler could have matured his game to know what it takes to win.

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/26838...son-projections Matt Miller does pretty good work. He writes for bleacher report, is on the score once in a while and I follow his twitter. I am not sold on Josh Allen, but he says he is raw, has the tools to develop. He has Watson going to Buffalo and Kizer to Cleveland at 12. At #3, I would prefer to take Jon Allen DL, but understand the QB logic. 1-Josh Allen QB 2-Sydney Jones CB 3-JJ Shuster WR 4-Cole Hikutini TE 4-Jake Replogle DL 5-Jordan Willis OLB 7-Cole Croston OT

I agree one QB has a chance to go, but look at this board and it seems most are against the Bears taking QB with the #3 pick. If that is the case, why would Cle or SF jump on a QB ahead of us? The Bears main focus point should be finding a long term solution at QB. The only way I see them not taking one at 3 is if Allen or Garrett are available.
